Programme Type INTEC offers three types of programmes, namely National Qualifications, Provider Programmes, and Agent Programmes: National Qualifications are credit bearing qualifications registered on the NQF and accredited by a Quality Assurance Body. Provider Programmes are unique to INTEC and are designed to increase and enhance your skills and knowledge within your chosen field. Agent Programmes are programmes and qualifications for which INTEC offers tuition, but where INTEC does not issue the final certificate (the agent body issues the final certificate). For more information about the types of programmes that INTEC offers, please see the INTEC General Brochure. Introduction to Art This course will act as a bridging course to the more advanced levels. You will find your lessons easy to understand and clearly illustrated with diagrams and photography. Regular practical assignments will help you to build up a portfolio of artwork that you can use to illustrate your talents when pursuing a career in art. Programme Type The Introduction to Art programme is a Provider Programme. Entrance Requirements We strongly recommend that you have an English language skill in reading and writing equivalent to Grade 10 (Std. 8). Course Duration You should be able to complete this course within 12 months. Recreational Art In this course you will learn to paint and draw various subjects using different mediums. Programme Type The Recreational Art programme is a Provider Programme. Entrance Requirements We strongly recommend that you have an English language skill in reading and writing equivalent to Grade 10 (Std. 8). Course Duration You should be able to complete this course within 12 months. Course Content Core: Compulsory Watercolour Painting: Water-based Media, Materials, Paint Quality, Colours, Brushes. Oil Painting Technical Freedom and Restriction in Oil Painting, Materials, Alkyd Resin Paints, Oils and Varnishes, Supports and Grounds, Setting out the Palette, Basic Colour Mixing, Landscape Painting, Still Life, The use of the Painting Knife. Electives: Select 2 of the following Landscape Painting Depth and Distance, Choice of Subject, Working Sequence, Media and Materials, Photographs, Sketches, Composing a Landscape. Still Life Interpretation and Limitation, Media, Choosing and Arranging a Still Life, Painting a Still Life, The Construction of Flowers as Forms, Flowers in Natural Settings.

Portrait and Figure Drawing Subject, Method, Light and Shadow, Types of Portraits, The Basic Components of a Portrait, Planes. Cartooning Human form, Gags, Comic Strips, Caricature, Animated Cartoons, Selling Cartoons. Assessments The written assignments are dependent on the electives you choose. Graphic and Advertising Design This course will introduce you to the Graphic Design and Advertising industries. It is for students who wish to learn the basics of art and design and be exposed to it across the board and then from there select a discipline that interests them. Practical exercises and projects will assist you in developing the skills needed to create visual layouts using typography. The assignments will help you to compile a portfolio. Programme Type The Graphic and Advertising Design programme is a Provider Programme. Entrance Requirements We strongly recommend that you have an English language skill in reading and writing equivalent to Grade 10 (Std. 8). Course Duration You should be able to complete the Graphic and Advertising Design course within 12 months. Should you choose one of the computer add-on courses, it will take you an additional 6 months to complete. Assessment You are required to hand in 10 written assignments. The assignments are focussed on sketching and artwork done by hand. Award On successful completion of this course you will receive your INTEC Certificate in Graphic and Advertising Design. Software Packages: You have the option of adding a computer component to your Graphic and Advertising Design course at an additional cost which will enhance your skills. Adobe Photoshop CS3 Photoshop can be an invaluable tool for creating graphics, allowing you to begin with scanned photographs or hand artwork or by painting and creating artwork from within the application. The results can include retouched and colour corrected photographs, photo illustrations and computer effects. CorelDRAW X3 CorelDRAW is a graphics programme which allows you to create illustrations containing text, graphics and electronic photographs that could be used in graphics for Internet use, logos, marketing brochures, posters and much more. PC Requirements are the same for both packages: A PIII 650 MHz and above PC is recommended, 128Megs of RAM, CD-ROM Drive, 16 Bit Sound Card, VGA Display Monitor, 4.5 Gig HDD space, Windows Operating Systems 2000/XP, Internet Access is essential.
