The CISED (Centre d Initiative et de Services des Etudiants de Saint-Denis) is a student association located opposite the Paris 8 university. It offers several services (for instance computer room and counselling) as well as French courses. The CISED is managed by volunteers and most services are free of charge. To use the centre, you must be a student enrolled at the university Saint-Denis-Paris 8 and have paid a yearly due of 14. Learning French as a foreign language at the CISED: - Private lessons or small classes for foreign students. - Weekly grammar and conversation classes. - Personalised help with your thesis (correction). - End of September, intensive two-week course. Grammar: You may choose one of three regular weekly classes, 10 am-12 am, 12 am-2 pm or 2 pm-4 pm. Written French: Private lessons or collective classes, one to two hours per week depending on your schedule. The collective class is more stimulating. A private lesson may be better in some situations. The classes are mostly based on literary texts or texts in the arts, philosophy, sociology, anthropology... We advise you join a group of students in the same field of studies as you. Intensive course: once or twice a year, the CISED offers a course of 20 hours per week for one or two weeks. Usually these classes are held in July, end of September/early October. French conversation: Every day, from Monday to Friday, you can join a conversation group. Depending on the person in charge, it may be a discussion, a cultural visit or a cooking session, all in French! 3
