Family & Consumer Sciences Our Mission Statement The Family and Consumer Sciences Department seeks to empower students with skills to meet the financial, employment, and technological challenges of the future, strengthen families, and make significant contributions in the formulation and achievement of goals in their communities and society. Focus is place on the acquisition of knowledge and technical skills regarding workplace readiness in the restaurant and hospitality industry, financial literacy, food and nutrition, human development and career exploration. Our Goals Support social, intellectual, emotional and physical development of each student and provide appropriate guidance Demonstrate healthy practices that enhance individual and family well being Recognize and appreciate cultural and human diversity Prepare students for their transition from school to careers Align instruction with local, state, and national educational standards Increase student achievement through rigorous, motivational and challenging educational lessons Integrate technology such as digital videos, virtual websites and interactive websites as well as hands-on activities in lessons

Home Economics Education, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Post Graduate-Bowie State University Employment Experiences: FACS Extension Agent Private Industry-BNA Louisiana Public Schools Prince George s County Public Schools School Based Activities: Teach ProStart 1 & 2 Culinary Completer courses sponsored by the National Restaurant Association for student matriculation into the foodservice industry and culinary universities. ProStart students cater for school organizations and special events. ProStart students travel to culinary universities such as Johnson and Wales University and Prince George s County Community College Culinary Department ProStart 2 students competed in culinary competitions and won full scholarships to major culinary universities. ProStart students will secure ServSafe Foodhandlers Safety Certification. Teach International Culture and Cuisine courses, which researches geography, lifestyle, cultures and cooking utensils of countries in order to prepare food entrees indigenous to the various countries.
TeNikka LeBlanc I have a bachelor s degree from Morgan State University in Family and Consumer Sciences. I currently teach International Culture and Cuisine and my favorite subject, Financial Literacy. I helped to design the Financial Literacy Standards for the state of Maryland, in addition to writing the currently used curriculum for Financial Literacy in Prince George s County. I have served on the team of State Educators for FEFE, which is a free online curriculum for teachers of personal finance and FACS courses. I was also a teacher coordinator for Child Development II Program in previous years. It is my aspiration to start a club for students interested in Personal Finance Management sometime in the future.
Josette L. Floyd Child Development 1, 2, and 3 I am very happy and excited about teaching Child Development classes at Charles Herbert Flowers High School. I am a native of Washington, D.C. I have a Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy from Howard University. I have 19 years of permanent substitute teaching in Prince George s County Public Schools. I have enjoyed teaching every level of education from elementary to middle school and now high school in the public school system. The most rewarding experiences have been the 9 years of teaching in the Family and Consumer Sciences Department.
