P A G E 2 Revocation of a Power of Attorney By Pat Ernce I have been preparing taxes for many years and have sent in numerous power of attorneys for my clients. Until you cancel that power of attorney you will still receive copies of all correspondence sent to that client by the IRS. So what do you do when these clients have disappeared maybe they moved or died and you no long have them as client and have no communication with them? Revoking Form 2848 Power of Attorney So what do you do when these clients have disappeared maybe they moved or died and you no long have them as client and have no communication with them? You can get a list of all power of attorneys on file with the IRS as part of the Freedom of Information Act. You must send a request to the IRS Disclosure Office. The address for our area is: Internal Revenue Service Discover Scanning Operation Stop 93A PO Box 621506 Atlanta, GA 30362-3006 Once you receive the list, follow the instructions for form 2848 to revoke the Power of Attorneys you no longer need. If you have the Tax Tools program, it has a form, Representative Statement of Withdrawal, that you can use. There is a charge if you receive over 100 pages but no charge if less than 100 pages. Please see next page for a sample request letter. Recap of NATP Forum in Vegas By Pat Ernce This was the first year that NATP had a Forum in Las Vegas and according to the attendees it was a great success!! Where else can you get 15 CPE credits for $220? The meeting rooms were big enough to accommodate all the attendees and the speakers were great. The only complaint I heard was that several of the subjects should have been 2 hours. I also must congratulate National on their audio-visual presentations. They were the best I have seen in a long time. There were 1,200 attendees this year but only a few from Hawaii. The only downside, as always, is the airfare. But when you consider the cost of the Forum and the low cost of the hotel, it s still a bargain. I hope National will repeat the Forum again next year and that more attendees are from Hawaii. I will keep you posted in our upcoming events, should there be one in the near future.
