2 DEAR TAX PRACTITIONER: Make your reservation now to attend one of the four UGA Cooperative Extension Income Tax Schools sponsored by the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics and Cooperative Extension, The University of Georgia. These schools are offered by The University of Georgia to experienced income tax practitioners who prepare tax returns for others. REGISTRATION The Conference Office of The University of Georgia Tifton Campus is the registrar for these programs. Please send your registration to the Conference Office in Tifton at the address shown on the form, or use our secure online registration at: Your registration fee covers all school costs, including instruction, materials and refreshments. CREDIT The UGA Cooperative Extension Income Tax Schools qualify for 16 hours of Continuing Education, including 3 hours of New Legislation and 2 hours of Ethics credit. The University of Georgia keeps records of the attendance and participation of all Tax School participants. Former Registered Tax Return Preparers: The Internal Revenue Service is currently enjoined from enforcing the regulatory requirements for registered tax return preparers. At this time, former RTRPs have no IRS mandated continuing education requirements. Enrolled Agents: The UGA Cooperative Extension Income Tax Schools are an IRS Approved Continuing Education Provider for Enrolled Agents. Certified Public Accountants: Continuing Education credit provided by the UGA Cooperative Extension Income Tax Schools is accepted by the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants. Attorneys: Please call (229) when registering to ascertain the CLE hours granted by the State Bar of Georgia. MATERIALS The 2013 National Income Tax Workbook, published by the Land Grant University Tax Education Foundation, Inc. is the text used in these schools. One copy of the workbook will be provided to each registrant. The workbook is only available as a part of the schools registration. REGISTRATION CONFIRMATION Confirmation of your registration and directions to your school location will be mailed to you. A receipt for your registration fee will be available at the beginning of each school. CHANGES, REFUNDS AND CANCELLATIONS There is a $15 fee for changing school locations after registration. Refunds will be made if requested at least one week before the beginning of the school. A $25 service fee will be deducted from the registration fee for all refunds. Substitution of participants is permitted with advance notice to facilitate registration. A full refund will be made if any school is canceled due to insufficient enrollment. In the event of a cancellation, UGA Cooperative Extension will not be responsible nor liable for any cancellation charges assessed by airlines, travel agencies or hotels. 3 2013 UGA COOPERATIVE EXTENSION INCOME TAX SCHOOLS: 2013 NATIONAL INCOME TAX WORKBOOK TOPICS New Legislation The Three hours of New Legislation instruction will include three Workbook chapters: Affordable Care Act Medical Loss Ratio Rebates Net Investment Income Tax Additional Medicare Tax Other Revenue Provisions Mandatory Health Care Coverage in 2014 Employer Requirement for 2015 New Legislation Defense of Marriage Act Individual Income Tax Rates Individual Taxpayer Credits Individual Taxpayer Deductions and Exclusions Retirement Plans Business Deductions Business Credits Estate and Gift Taxes Rulings and Cases Summaries of selected rulings and cases that were issued from late 2012 through August 2013 are organized by subject matter to help participants find topics of interest. The chapter also provides an update on issues that are being addressed by the IRS and the courts. Ethics Two hours of continuing professional education in Ethics required annually for Enrolled Agents and Registered Tax Return Preparers will be addressed in the Ethics chapter. The chapter applies ethical philosophy to practical situations encountered by practitioners in return preparation. Cross references to Circular 230 provide guidance on resolving ethical issues in the context of the IRS rules governing tax return preparation.
