Mobile Analytics Report November 2013 The Citrix Mobile Analytics Report for the fourth quarter of 2013 provides insight into subscriber behavior and related factors that affect subscribers quality of experience (QoE) with mobile data services. The intent is to provide mobile network operators with real-world examples that can inform decisions about improving subscriber QoE and differentiating services to manage and monetize increasing volumes of traffic, while at the same time providing broad insight into the state of the mobile data ecosystem. Q4 2013 Highlights The fourth-quarter 2013 report provides insight into mobile data subscriber usage patterns and the impact this behavior has on operators networks. from the report address topics such as top mobile applications, video social media, mobile advertising, mobile retail, and the changing landscape of mobile video. Instagram video generates 6X more aggregate mobile data traffic than Vine. Of all Instagram traffic, video generates approximately one-third of the total mobile data volume, while two-thirds of that data is associated with photos and images. Three applications - Media Player, Browser and Google Play - generate 83% of mobile data volume associated with Android devices, with Media Player accounting for more than half. This is similar to application use on ios devices, as reported by Citrix ByteMobile in Q2 2013. On ios devices, Media Player, Safari and App Store generated 77% of mobile data volume. The ratio of mobile subscribers receiving image-based ads versus video-based ads is 20-to-1. In the Q2 2010 Mobile Analytics Report, ByteMobile found that 90% of mobile video data by volume was associated with the FLV format, which is primarily associated with laptops. Today, the primary mobile video format is MP4, a format which is most closely associated with smartphones. This MP4 traffic represents 67% of global mobile video volume. This report anonymously sources information gathered over the preceding quarter about mobile network data traffic from a global cross-section of Citrix ByteMobile customers. The data presented is not intended to reflect a comprehensive view of all mobile network data traffic or of all mobile network subscribers.

At 1% of data traffic and 3% of transactions, Facebook accounts for less traffic on Android devices than on ios devices, the latter generating 5% of total data and 6% of transactions from the Facebook app and website. Google Play generates 10% of the total mobile data volume on Android devices.
