How was this initiated?: During the 80 s, in order to boost tourism, some European Countries explored various options. One of most successful options was to give the VAT charged on products they bought, back to the tourists when leaving the country. Ever since then, this has been implemented in over 40 countries worldwide. In December 2007, the Treasury Department from the Mexican Government authorized this program for all tourists shopping in Mexico, giving back the larger part of the VAT charged on products. This mayor benefit is for all international tourists arriving to Mexico by plane and/or cruiseship.

What is a TAX refund? Value added d tax is asales tax on the product. Worldwide this sales tax is between 16% and 25%, depending on which country. This tax is used for social benefits for residents in each country, and therefore returned to international tourists who do not live there and take the products home to their own country. Taxback/Moneyback is the lider in Mexico and has the official authorization from the Secretary of Treasure to implement this program under the license number: SAT.AGRS.CONCESIÓN.002/07-005.
