Mr. Vern Roberts U.S.H.A. Dear Vern, For the second time in three years, the Canadian Nationals Four-Walls Handball Championships have been presented in Quebec, in the city of Laval, at the Tennis 13 Club. For the first time, those 2014 Championships included a one-wall division that has been held on two portable courts built on an indoor tennis court. One hundred and forty (140) players from U.S.A., Ireland, France and Canada have competed in 25 divisions, including Singles and Doubles for men, women and juniors. All the games played in the show court have been presented live on a T.V. screen in the hall of the Tennis Club and the two one-wall courts were also accessible to a large glass gallery. The closing Saturday night banquet has been a very important moment for two people inducted in the Canadian National Handball Hall of Fame: Skip Smiley form Edmonton as a builder / contributor and Danny Bell from Québec City as the best ever player from Canada. He has been twelve times Canadian National Champion, once a pro-stop winner and twice the World Champion in Doubles. The men s open categories Single and Doubles, gave us opportunity to recognize the great abilities of Killian Carroll, the young and now famous kid from Ireland who defeated Luis Moreno from Tucson in Single ( ) and in Doubles (Moreno / Kevin Kopchuk) with his partner Connor McElduff. Tyler Hamel got the Canadian Closed Title after Danny Bell. Maria Dugas from Halifax, Nova-Scotia also got the slam over Alethia Mendez of New York in the Women s Singles open and over Mendez and Diane Vallée (Montréal) in doubles with her teammate Leslie Amminson of Newfoundland. The one-wall event was also very popular and spectacular. Almost one hundred of all the players registered in the four-walls did also play in the one-wall 7 divisions. Many very good players from New York were present to support this initiative of Joe Berthiaume and Ray Lafrance. Finally, a new C.H.A. president has been elected during this event. Chris Simmons from Newfoundland will take the place of the two co-presidents, Mike Wilson and Brian Goto who have served the C.H.A. for many years. The 2015 Canadian National will be hosted by the city of Calgary in Alberta at the same venues then the World s in August.
