1 0BFirewalls Firewalls provide essential security for your Laptop when using the internet by monitoring traffic on all networks. Veebeam uses a private network to communicate between the Veebeam box and the USB antenna. Sometimes, firewall software will automatically stop the Veebeam network from working because it is unknown to the firewall software. In such cases, your firewall software needs to be told to allow the Veebeam network to operate. If your firewall software produces a notification that it has identified Veebeam as a threat or your Veebeam does not work after installation (despite the USB antenna and Veebeam box being close together) then there is a good chance Veebeam needs to be enabled in your firewall software. Veebeam uses a secure, closed, private network and enabling it in your firewall does not compromise your Laptop s security in any way. 2 1BIdentifying your firewall If you do not know the type of firewall software running on your Laptop, the following instructions may be of help. 2.1 3BOS X Many Macs only use the standard OS X firewall and Veebeam automatically configures this for its use with this firewall during installation. However, if you have a third party firewall installed on your OS X laptop, this will typically be shown under Applications. Although the instructions in this document are specifically for Windows, the same basic principles apply to OS X and, in most cases, the firewall software for OS X will show a dialog very similar to the Windows dialog. 2.2 4BWindows For Windows PCs with only the standard Windows firewall, Veebeam will automatically configure the firewall for its use during installation and no further changes should be needed. If you have a third party (non-windows) firewall on your Laptop the Veebeam application should be Allowed (if so prompted) or given Full access. For some firewalls it may be necessary to do this by changing the settings in the firewall Program Control and/or to add a rule. You can check which firewall you are using by selecting Start menu / Control Panel / System and Security / Windows Firewall. 2011 Veebeam Corp. Page 3 of 11
The following shows the resultant windows for a Windows Laptop and indicates that a third party application (in this example, Symantec Endpoint Protection) is in control of the firewall. 2011 Veebeam Corp. Page 4 of 11
