2 Get Started The NETGEAR AirCard 340U USB Modem delivers 4G LTE connections to your laptop. This small, convenient device features a built-in LCD display to monitor connection status, signal strength, and data usage at a glance. With no installation CD required, the AirCard 340U modem makes it easy to stay productive on the go without the need to constantly hunt for public WiFi. Insert the SIM Card 1. Slide the cover off. 2. 3 Windows Installation Mac Installation 1. Open the modem s USB connector. 2. Insert the modem s USB connector into a USB port on your computer. The software installation starts. 3. Follow the prompts to install the software 4. Click the Finish button. The AirCard Watcher Connection Manager launches and scans for mobile networks. The AirCard Watcher shortcut displays on the desktop. If your computer is a Mac with OS 10.8 or 10.7, you must install a patch. Visit detail/a_id/23444/. 1. Open the modem s USB connector. 2. Insert the modem s USB connector into a USB port on your computer. The software installation starts. 3. Follow the prompts to install the software 4. Click the Finish button. The AirCard Watcher Connection Manager launches and scans for mobile networks. 5. If the message New network interfaces have been detected displays, do the following: a. Click the Network Preferences button. 4 5

4 b. In the Network screen, click the Apply button. c. If you are prompted to create a profile, click Create a new profile and click the + button. Connect to the Internet for the First Time To use your account to connect to the Internet, a profile must be set up that includes the access point name (APN) for your service provider. Depending on how your AirCard USB modem is configured, the profile might already be set up or you might need to create one. The first time you run the AirCard Watcher, it takes a few seconds for the modem to detect the network. When the modem detects the network, the Connect button becomes available. 1. Click the Connect button. 2. If you are prompted to create a profile: On a Windows computer, click the Yes button and follow the onscreen prompts. On a Mac computer, under the menus select AirCard Watcher > Preferences. Then click the Profiles tab and enter your APN information. To find the APN, do one of the following: Check the information that came with your SIM. Use an alternate Internet connection to check your service provider s website. Use an alternate Internet connection to perform a web search for <service provider name> APN. 6 7

5 Manage Your Internet Connection The AirCard Watcher Connection Manager launches automatically when it detects your USB modem. Launch the AirCard Watcher from Windows Do one of the following: Double-click the desktop shortcut. Select Start > Programs > NETGEAR > AirCard Watcher. Depending on how your profile is configured, your browser, VPN, or other program might launch automatically when you launch the AirCard Watcher. Launch the AirCard Watcher on a Mac On Mac computers, the AirCard Watcher starts automatically at login. To disable this feature, select AirCard Watcher > Preferences. To start the AirCard Watcher, navigate to the Applications > NETGEAR folder and double-click AirCard Watcher. 8 9

6 Troubleshooting This section describes possible problems and solutions. Software Installation Does Not Start Automatically Windows 1. Double-click the Computer icon on your desktop. 2. Click the TRU-Install drive. The TRU-Install drive displays if the modem is connected to your computer. 3. Open the Win folder and double-click the Setup.exe file. 4. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the software. Mac OS X 1. Open Finder. 2. Under Devices, click TRU-Install. 3. Double-click the installer package. Note: If you do not see the TRU-Install drive, uninstall any previous AirCard Watcher and driver installation package from your Mac. Then reboot and try again. Windows Installation Fails When you try to install or uninstall the AirCard Watcher, a message that Windows Installer is not accessible displays (for example, Error code: 1601). It is possible that another installation process is running. To correct this problem, shut down and restart your computer. Then try installing or uninstalling again
