A proud history Strength in depth The roots of QBE run very deep. All the way back to 1886, in fact, when two enterprising young Scots went into business in Queensland, Australia. The company they founded grew and spread, eventually becoming one of the world s leading insurers and reinsurers, operating out of 52 countries around the globe, doing business in more than 100, and with over 16,000 staff worldwide. Our gross written premium to year end December 2011 was US$18.3 billion. Standard & Poor s and Fitch Ratings current Insurer Financial Strength and Issuer Credit Rating for QBE s main insurance subsidiaries (QBE Insurance (Europe) Limited and QBE Reinsurance (Europe) Limited) is A+. A.M. Best has assigned an Insurer Financial Strength Rating of A (excellent) for QBE Insurance (Europe) Limited and QBE Reinsurance (Europe) Limited respectively, and an Issuer Credit Rating of A+ for QBE Insurance (Europe) Limited and QBE Reinsurance (Europe) Limited. QBE in Europe We arrived in London in 1904. QBE European Operations (QBE EO) now covers 20 countries right across Europe. QBE EO employs over 2,700 employees and accounts for over 25% of QBE gross written premium. In the last 5 years the value of QBE European Operations total assets has grown by 59%. The insurance market in London is broadly divided between Lloyd s of London and business underwritten by companies outside of Lloyd s. QBE is an ambitious company. A substantial part of our growth has been achieved by acquiring successful Lloyd s syndicates and other like-minded companies. As well as being a significant force in the company market, we are now one of the largest managing agents at Lloyd s. Dubai Branch QBE Dubai Branch was registered on 2 March, 2009, at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Having had a longstanding history of providing commercial insurance solutions to the MENA region via the Lloyd s platform, the Dubai Branch was conceived to continue the expansion of a Middle East offering with a local service and an experienced, on the ground underwriting resource.
