4 We place annually more than 400m of construction insurance premium in the market, which makes us London s leading construction broker and gives us the leverage to negotiate the most competitive rates on our clients behalf. We bring together insurance and capital market solutions to ensure we create a programme that responds to the risks our clients face. GETTING THE BEST FROM THE MARKET Our client was a large consortium developing a Motorway concession project. The project was originally priced by another broker, during which time the contract value had changed. JLT were then appointed to redesign the programme to fit around the new budget. There were a number of challenges with marketing the project which included; an extensive project period, high values at risk, a large number of tunnels and project phasing. A strong marketing strategy was put in place in order to overcome the challenges faced. This was led by construction s Head of Placement to access markets in London, Paris, and Germany, creating commercial pressure on these three core centres. We successfully negotiated with the lead insurer to agree a very significant share of the risk allowing support markets to "fall in" behind them. By utilising our market leverage and expertise we were able to achieve the best deal and the optimum price for our client. The insurances placed included a combined construction and operational policy with a single policy wording to ensure smooth interface between project phases.

Our specialists have continued to push boundaries in order provide our clients with even more innovative insurance solutions, facilities and products. INNOVATIVE PLACEMENT STRATEGIES JLT s innovative approach to a complex port project involving wet works resulted in a broad CAR & TPL wording that included a unique Marine wrap around cover and a competitive premium. This was achieved by challenging traditional insurer thinking on wet risks. This project was the world s largest greenfield port development, involving considerable offshore and onshore works with multiple contract packages. Heavy civil works included excavation of a port basin, dredging of a channel, outer breakwaters and spoil being used for land reclamation. A key to success was the detailed Underwriting Submission focusing on wet works methodology. With clear objectives, we minimised the impact of the marine works interface to provide the most cost effective result. Working with our client we provided information that gave insurers a level of comfort to obtain full cover for works in or over water. JLT approached insurers in London, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. This and new policy language delivered the desired result for our client. It was acknowledged by an independent reviewer that this programme set new standards in price and coverage.

9 Our claims experts are integrated within our servicing teams. Through this joined-up approach we have established a world-class reputation for delivering results and resolving complex claims. We work in partnership with our clients establishing a clear line of communication with insurers to ensure the most efficient settlement of all losses. PROACTIVE CLAIMS MANAGEMENT Our claims team have worked on one of the largest construction claims the insurance market has seen in recent years. This involved not only the client s professional indemnity insurance but also their public/products liability insurers and a project-specific CAR/PL policy not arranged by JLT. All insurers appointed their own solicitors, adjusters, experts and advisors. JLT bought all the parties together and attended numerous meetings to ensure that positions did not become entrenched and the right result achieved for all parties concerned. In conjunction with our client and their legal advisors we were instrumental in ensuring that matters were dealt with in a non-confrontational manner with the insurance market. By using our technical expertise and knowledge of the key decision makers within the insurance market and our market leverage, we were successful in the claims payment. We have ensured significant and prompt interim claim payments following the initial settlement.
