2 Welcome to Rouse A leading global intellectual property firm. Established in 1990, we now have a team of more than 600 (including lawyers, patent and trade mark attorneys and specialist IP investigators) working in 16 offices around the world to provide the full range of IP services, from registration to commercialisation and enforcement. Long standing clients include many of the world s foremost IP owners. Rouse is a world class IP services firm primarily focused on the emerging markets of Asia and the Middle East, with a leading niche United Kingdom IP practice. In all markets where we operate, we are a leader in our field. Rouse has always been more than a law firm. We realised at the outset that to get the results clients were looking for, we needed a range of professionals, including specialist IP investigators, working closely together in a non-hierarchical, creative and results-oriented environment. That is what we created, and that is what Rouse remains. Despite the firm s subsequent growth and development, its fundamental strategy and its spirit have remained unchanged.

4 Our services We have expertise in all aspects of Intellectual Property. From trade marks, patents, designs and copyright to domain names, database rights and confidential information, Rouse has all of your IP matters covered. Our services range from patent and trade mark agency and IP commercialisation, to anti-counterfeiting, investigation and dispute resolution services. The types of service we provide fall into the following five broad categories: Legal Consulting Trade mark and design agency Investigation and research Patent agency

5 Legal We provide a full range of IP legal services, including both commercial and dispute resolution services. Our commercial IP lawyers are specialists in IP strategy and management, in the negotiation and drafting of licences, and other IP related commercial agreements. Their expertise enables them to help clients derive maximum benefit from their IP. Our dispute resolution teams handle the enforcement of all forms of IP, using the means most effective in the country concerned. In addition to litigation in the Courts, we make full use of administrative bodies, including Customs, and of alternative dispute resolution procedures, wherever appropriate. We have made a significant commitment to the mediation process, with several of our senior lawyers formally qualifying and gaining experience as mediators.

6 Consulting Over and above specific legal work, we provide advice and consultancy services in relation to all aspects of IP management. These services range from the management of outsourced regional and global enforcement programmes for multi-national clients, to the conduct of IP audits and due diligence and the development and implementation of IP strategies. Our consulting services also include lobbying governments, IP authorities, and industry bodies on a range of IP issues, and developing and conducting IP training programmes. We have had many years experience devising, implementing and managing anti-counterfeiting programmes in some of the most difficult jurisdictions in the world.

7 Trade mark and designs agency We have over 100 specialists solely dedicated to the registration of trade marks and designs and the provision of international portfolio management services. Between them, our attorneys have a range of private practice and in-house experience and ready access to other Rouse colleagues wherever necessary. This enables us to take a broad perspective on clients IP registration needs, and to propose innovative solutions to protection problems. Many of our clients have active IP teams; we are accustomed to supporting, and working closely with them. We also work closely with design and branding agencies in relation to the creation and clearance of new brands. In addition to registration and portfolio management, we monitor our clients rights and the activities of their competitors. We have invested heavily in sophisticated portfolio software to simplify the application process and provide clients with ready access to information. We charge fixed fees where appropriate. Our rates are competitive.

8 Patent agency We have extensive international expertise in patent procurement and related services. Our principal patent attorneys have both in-house and private practice background, and many years experience managing global patent portfolios for major multi-national corporations. They make use of the latest technology and ensure that their patent drafting, filing and prosecutions always have a commercial focus. We also provide patent due diligence and audit services, and have expertise in third party patent issues such as infringement assessments and patent office revocation proceedings, particularly proceedings before the United Kingdom and European Patent Offices. Our patent groups work closely with Rouse colleagues from other IP disciplines and we believe this adds to the quality of the service we are able to provide. We charge fixed fees where appropriate. Our rates are competitive.

9 Investigation and research Our investigation team is regularly involved in tracking counterfeit product to source, often across several countries. Our early experience in the development and management of anti-counterfeiting programmes, particularly in difficult jurisdictions, led us to appreciate the essential role played by access to reliable information. We established a specialist in-house IP investigation capability at an early stage, and now have a global network of experienced IP investigators. We also have an extensive IP library and a network of valuable contacts worldwide. Our investigation team also conducts commercial IP investigations, particularly in the context of IP audits and due diligence, trade mark investigations and domain name recovery investigations.

11 Our offices With experienced local practitioners, Rouse can assist you around the world. Australia Our liaison office in Sydney works closely with our Asia offices, providing assistance to local clients and undertaking training and business development activities. We do not practise local law in Australia. China - We have been established in China since 1993 and now have offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. We have nearly 200 staff on the ground in mainland China, working exclusively in the field of IP and related commercial matters. Legal advice and litigation services are provided through our associated law firm, Lusheng Law Firm. Hong Kong - Rouse Legal provides the full range of IP legal services to a wide range of clients including start-ups, SMEs and multinationals. Its services include clearance, filing, prosecution, and international portfolio management, dispute resolution, management of regional enforcement and compliance programmes, and transactional IP commercial services.

12 India - We have been assisting IP owners in relation to the Indian market since 1992 through Indian counsel. Since 2004, we have worked closely and in association with Ranjan Narula Associates (RNA), one of the leading IP practices in India. Although Rouse does not practise Indian law or have an office in India, through the close relationship and association that has developed with RNA, we understand the cultural diversity of India and the challenges that it brings to IP holders in protecting and enforcing their rights. Indonesia - Our Jakarta office has expanded rapidly since it opened early in It now practises in all aspects of IP, from patent and trade mark filing to commercialisation, enforcement and litigation. Local law firm, Suryomurcito & Co., established when we set up in Jakarta, forms part of our Indonesian operation. Myanmar - Our Myanmar office opened in November 2013 due to a high client demand and their need for strategic support in commercial and IP laws in this country. We are the only International IP firm with an office in Myanmar. We offer prosecution for patents, designs, trade marks and geographic indications, as well as broader portfolio management, commercial work and IP commercialisation services such as technology transfer.

13 Philippines - This office works closely with local law firm Baranda & Associates to provide a comprehensive range of IP services including investigation, trade mark and patent portfolio management, and enforcement of IP rights. Clients include multi-national IP owners and copyright industry associations. Russia - Our Moscow office opened in May 2013 to reflect the increasing need from our clients to have full representation in Russia. Clients specifically requested that Rouse assist them with their IP issues in Russia, knowing the calibre of support they have received from us in other jurisdictions. We have been working in this market via various associate firms for many years and with major blue chip companies in the energy, consumer, manufacturing and technology sectors. We know the issues that clients face here and are experienced in providing practical, cost effective solutions. Saudi Arabia We have been active in Saudi Arabia since 1997, and in 2010 formalised an association with the well-known intellectual property specialist firm Nassir Kadasa & Partners. We provide the full range of IP services, including patent and trade mark agency services, and manage and enforce our clients IP portfolios.

14 Thailand - Our office in Bangkok was opened in It now handles a wide range of IP matters, from patent and trade mark filing, to commercialisation and enforcement. We have also established a second office which focuses on patenting in the biotechnology field.united Arab Emirates Dubai, being a regional centre of trade, was the logical base for our practice in the Middle East and Africa. Our office opened early in 1997 in response to a significantly increased workload in the region, and we provide the full range of IP services there. We have a multi-cultural team of lawyers and trade mark attorneys, able to communicate in many of the region s languages. United Kingdom - Our office in London provides a full range of IP services in the UK, including patent and trade mark agency services, IP consultancy and investigation, and the management of outsourced IP enforcement programmes in Europe and elsewhere. IP legal services are provided through associated UK law firm, Rouse Legal, independently recognised as one of the UK s leading IP practices; patent agency services are provided through associated Chartered Patent Agents and European Patent Attorneys, Rouse Patents. Vietnam - We have been working in Vietnam for many years, and established an office in Ho Chi Minh City in 1997 and in Hanoi in We provide the full range of IP services there. Legal services are provided by a local branch of UK law firm Rouse Legal. Note - Because of local regulatory requirements, some parts of our business are conducted by separate legal entities. For example, in the UK the legal practice is conducted by local law firm Rouse Legal, and the patent filing practice by Rouse Patents, a firm of Chartered Patent Agents and European Patent Attorneys. Some services provided in other countries are also conducted by separate local entities, all of which are associated with Rouse.
