Call for Applications WSP Training of Trainers Workshop 1-3 April, 2014 Accra, Ghana Objective of the Training: To build capacity of country experts and local training institutions to provide training of Water Safety Plan as well as provide continuous support to WSP development and implementation. Background: WSPs are a risk- based approach to most effectively protect drinking- water safety. The World Health Organisation s 4th edition of the Guidelines for drinking- water quality (WHO, 2011) explicitly states the importance of WSPs, and the Bonn Charter (IWA, 2004) advocates the use of WSPs as the best way of ensuring good, safe drinking- water. However, WSP are not always fully understood by all stakeholders. There are a number of key terms and concepts that are not always translated appropriately or are simply misunderstood. Face- to- face training is therefore considered to be an essential component to successful global implementation of WSP. In order to ensure sustainability of in- country and regional capacity in Africa to support implementation and provide training on Water Safety Plans, this Training of Trainers Workshop has been organised to strengthen the capacity of country experts as well as local institutes. This will enable them have the knowledge and expertise to train and support those that will develop or implement WSP in future.
