Getting Started with the Valant EMR application: This document is intended to provide a quick reference to the specifications and requirements needed in order to run the Valant EMR application on your computer. If you run into problems during operation, it may be a good idea to compare your current computer settings to those provided here, and confirm that they re the same. PAGE 2 OF 2

Hardware Requirements for the Vālant EMR: Internet Connection (All Users - PC and MAC): Broadband (High-Speed) Internet connection: o 1.5 Mbps or faster. A minimum throughput (actual upload and download speed) of 300 kbps PER USER is required. NOTE: Actual throughput is often much lower than the advertised connection speed. Hardware Specifications: PC Users: o X86 or x64 (64-bit mode support for IE v9 only) 1.6 gigahertz (GHz) processor or higher with a minimum of 1 GB of RAM Mac (Intel-based) Users: o Intel Core Duo 1.83 gigahertz (GHz) or higher processor with a minimum of 1 GB of RAM ipad (Mobile Notes Only) Users: o To fully utilize the voice recognition capabilities of Vālant Mobile Notes, we recommend an ipad 3 or newer. Software Requirements for the Vālant EMR: The Vālant Psychiatric Suite uses the latest technology to ensure security and reliability. This includes Secure Socket Layer (SSL) 3.0 protocol with 128 bit encryption for secure communications. JavaScript for a responsive interactive experience. We recommend always using the most up-to-date browser for the highest level of security. The Software Requirements for the Vālant EMR are as follows: PC Users: Operating System: o Windows PCs running Windows XP Professional SP3 or higher. o Windows Vista Business SP2 or higher. o Windows Vista Enterprise SP2 or higher. o Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 or higher. o Windows 7 Professional SP1 or higher. o Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 or higher. o Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 or higher. Internet Browser: o Internet Explorer v8.x or higher o Internet Explorer in 64-bit mode requires IE v9.x or higher o Mozilla Firefox v6.x or higher o Google Chrome is not a supported web browser Additional Software: o Microsoft Word 2007 or higher. Microsoft Word Starter 2007 does not support macros, therefore it is not supported. o Vālant Word Add-in. For more information on installing the Vālant Word Addin, click here. o Adobe Reader v9.x or higher. o Microsoft Silverlight v5 or higher. PAGE 4 OF 2

Mac Users: Operating System: o Macintosh 10.5.7 (Intel-based) or higher. Internet Browser: o Mozilla Firefox 6 or higher running in 32-bit. Silverlight will not run on Firefox in 64-bit on a Mac, which is the default setting. o Apple Safari is not a supported web browser Additional Software: o o o o Microsoft Word for Mac 2008 or higher. Microsoft Word Starter 2008 does not support macros, therefore it is not supported. Adobe Reader v9.x or higher Microsoft Silverlight v5 or higher NOTE: Customers with the EasyBilling module will require access to a PC with IE v8.x or higher to check the status of submitted claims. Internet Explorer v8 Configuration: To Configure the required Browser Settings for Internet Explorer 8 on each PC that will be using the Vālant EMR, please do the following: Click on Tools > Internet Options. Select the Security Tab. o Click on the Trusted Sites. Click on the Sites Button. Type in https://*.valantmed.com Click on Add. Type in https://*.drfirst.com Click on Add. Type in https://*.valant.com Click on Add. Click on Close. Click on the Custom Level Button under Trusted Sites. Scroll down to the Downloads Section. Enable Automatic Prompting for File Downloads Enable File Download Scroll down to the Miscellaneous Section. Enable Display Mixed Content Click OK. Click OK. Click on the Privacy Tab. o Click on the Sites Button. Type in valantmed.com Click on Allow. Type in drfirst.com Click on Allow. Type in valant.com Click on Allow. Click on OK. o Click on the Settings Button under the Pop-up Blocker Section. Type in *.valantmed.com Click on Add. Type in *.drfirst.com Click on Add. Type in *.valant.com Click on Add. Click on Close. Click on the Advanced Tab. o Scroll down to the Security Section of the list. o Uncheck the Do not save encrypted pages to disk checkbox. o Click OK to close the Internet Options Window. Internet Explorer v9 Configuration: To configure the required Browser Settings for Internet Explorer 9 on each PC that will be using the Vālant EMR, please do the following: Click on the Gear in the upper right corner of the Internet Explorer 9 browser window. Configuring the Browser Settings for Internet Explorer 10 To Configure the required Browser Settings for Internet Explorer 10 on each PC that will be using the Vālant EMR, please do the following: Click on the Gear in the upper right corner of the Internet Explorer 10 browser window. Mozilla Firefox Configuration for PC: To Configure Mozilla Firefox on each Windows PC or Laptop that will be using the Vālant EMR, please do the following: Click on Tools > Options. If you don t see the Tools option or the Menu Bar, you can access the same window by clicking on the Firefox Menu in the upper left corner, and choosing Options>Options. PAGE 20 OF 2

Select the Content Tab. o Click on Exceptions to the right of Block Pop-up Windows Checkbox. Type in valantmed.com Click on Allow. Type in drfirst.com Click on Allow. Type in valant.com Click on Allow. The Allowed Sites Window should appear as follows: Click on Close. PAGE 21 OF 2

o Click on the Security Tab. Click on Exceptions to the right of Warn me when sites try to install add-ons Checkbox. Type in valantmed.com Click on Allow. Type in drfirst.com Click on Allow. Type in valant.com Click on Allow. The Allowed Sites - Add-ons Window should appear as follows: Click on Close. Click on OK. Mozilla Firefox Configuration for MAC: To Configure Mozilla Firefox on each MAC that will be using the Vālant EMR, please do the following: Click on Firefox > Preferences. Select the Content Tab. o Click on Exceptions to the right of Block Pop-up Windows Checkbox. Type in valantmed.com Click on Allow. Type in drfirst.com Click on Allow. Type in valant.com Click on Allow. Click on the Red Circle in the upper left corner of the window to close the Allowed Sites - Pop-ups Box. o Click on the Security Tab. Click on Exceptions to the right of Warn me when sites try to install add-ons Checkbox. Type in valantmed.com Click on Allow. Type in drfirst.com Click on Allow. Type in valant.com Click on Allow. Click on the Red Circle in the upper left corner of the window to close the Allowed Sites - Add-ons Box. Click on the Red Circle in the upper left corner of the window to close the Preferences Box. Quit and reopen Mozilla Firefox to allow the changes to take affect. PAGE 23 OF 2

Vālant Word Add-in Installation: The Vālant Word Add-in enables PC users to digitally sign templated notes in the Vālant EMR, without the need to store copies of documents locally. The Vālant Word Add-in needs to be installed on all PCs that will be used to create Templated Notes from within the Vālant EMR. The Vālant Word Add-in cannot be installed on a MAC or an ipad. The PC Software Requirements for the Vālant Word Add-in are as follows: Microsoft Word 2007 or higher. o Microsoft Word Starter 2007 does not support macros, therefore it is not supported. Microsoft.NET Framework v4.0. To install the Vālant Word Add-in, please do the following: Enter the following URL into the address bar of the web browser or simply click here. o https://valantmed.com/valantweb7/client/newwordaddinsetup.msi Click Run on the dialog box that appears. (The messages may vary slightly depending on your operating system and browser.) A dialog box may appear that asks for verification of the publisher of the installation file. Click on Run, Yes, or OK, depending on the Operating System. PAGE 24 OF 2

The following dialog box will appear, click on Next. The program will begin to install the Vālant Word Add-in. PAGE 26 OF 2

Another warning may appear that is verifying the publisher. Click on Yes or OK depending on the Operating System. Microsoft.NET Framework v4.0 is included in the installer package. o If the PC does not have.net already installed, the PC will be redirected to the Microsoft Website to begin the.net installation. o This will cause the Word Add-in installation to abort. o After the.net Framework has been installed, the Word Add-in installer will have to be launched again. o To restart the Word Add-in installer, click here. After the installation for the.net Framework and the Vālant Word Add-in has been completed, click Close. PAGE 27 OF 2

Silverlight Installation: Silverlight is a free plug-in, and is required on all devices that will be used to access the core Vālant EMR. It is not required for Mobile Notes. To install Silverlight, please do the following: To check if Silverlight is already installed: Go to www.valant.com Click on the Client Login Link in the toolbar at the top of each page. This will bring up the login screen of the Vālant EMR. Enter the username in the User name: field. Enter the password in the Password: field. Click on the Login button. Upon attempting to launch the Vālant EMR, the browser will check to see if Silverlight has already been installed. If Silverlight has been installed, the Vālant EMR dashboard will load. If Silverlight has not been installed, the device will be directed to the Microsoft website to begin installing Silverlight. Installing Silverlight: Enter the following URL into the address bar of the web browser or simply click here. o http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/get-started/install/default.aspx The website will detect the version of Silverlight that is installed, if any. If Silverlight has not been installed, the following screen will appear. Click on Click to Install. PAGE 29 OF 2

If Silverlight needs to be updated, a similar screen to the one below will appear. Click on the light blue text after Current Version (In this example, Click on Silverlight 5 (5.1.104110.0)): Depending on the operating system and browser, the system may ask you to Run or Save the file. Click on Run. Depending on the operating system and browser, the User Access Controls may present a warning. Click on Yes. The Install Silverlight splash screen will appear. Click on Install Now. The installation of Silverlight will begin. Upon completion of the installation, Click on Close. PAGE 31 OF 2

Once Silverlight has been properly updated, a similar screen to the one below will appear. PAGE 32 OF 2

Adobe Reader Installation: Adobe Acrobat Reader is a free application required on all devices that will be used to view and print documents from the Vālant EMR. To install Adobe Acrobat Reader, please do the following: Browse to the following address URL or Click here. o http://get.adobe.com/reader/ A System Analysis and Installation Recommendation screen will appear. To avoid installing additional and possibly unwanted applications, uncheck the checkboxes for items such as Google Chrome and McAfee. o Google Chrome is not a supported browser. Here is an example of what the Recommendation Screen may look like. Click on Download Now. PAGE 33 OF 2

Click on Run or Open on the dialog box that appears. This pop-up may vary depending on the operating system and browser that are being used. The User Access Controls may ask for permission to continue. Click on Yes. Click on Next. Adobe Acrobat will automatically download and install. Click on Finish upon completion of the installation. Implementing Mobile Notes: Mobile Notes is platform free. This enables Mobile Notes to be run on various mobile devices such as ipads, in addition to laptops, MACs, and PCs. No Internet browser configuration is necessary. No additional software needs to be installed. To login to Mobile Notes, simply go to the following URL: https://valantmed.com/valantwebmobile/login.aspx Use the same login credentials for Mobile Notes that are used to access the Vālant EMR. To fully utilize the voice recognition capabilities of Vālant Mobile Notes, Vālant Medical Solutions recommends the ipad 3 or newer. Customers that purchase the Easy Billing Module and have RelayHealth as their clearinghouse will require access to a PC in order to view the status of their claims. PAGE 35 OF 2
