Many certification- training programs are linked directly to the recertification of professional licenses. WestMed College s Continuing Education Programs are Approved: By California s Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians to provide IV Therapy and Blood Withdrawal Certificates and continuing education. By California s Board of Registered Nursing to provide continuing education (CEP 15815). Medical First Responder Courses Emergency Medical First Responder (EMR) Course 48 Clock Hours Cost: $480 Prerequisites: None. This course provides fundamental training in emergency medical care. The First Responder course is recommended for many careers such as emergency medical technician/paramedic, firefighter, and law enforcement occupations. This course trains individuals to provide initial emergency care in a variety of situations. This course includes American Heart Association CPR for the Healthcare Provider. Students receive a WestMed course completion certificate and an AHA CPR for Healthcare Provider card valid for two years. Textbook included. This is not a State of California license/certification course. Emergency Medical First Responder (EMR) Refresher Course 16 Clock Hours Cost: $340 Prerequisites: Current EMR credential. This course provides a renewal of fundamental training in emergency medical care. The First Responder course is recommended for many careers such as emergency medical technician/paramedic, firefighter, and law enforcement occupations. This course trains individuals to provide initial emergency care in a variety of situations. This course includes American Heart Association CPR for the Healthcare Provider. Students receive a WestMed course completion certificate and an AHA CPR for Healthcare Provider card valid for two years. Textbook included. This is not a State of California license/certification course. Public Safety First Aid and CPR Course 24 Clock Hours Cost: $385 Prerequisites: None. This course provides fundamental training in emergency medical care for firefighters, lifeguards, peace officers, and others who require training in accordance with Title 22, Division 9, Chapter 1.5 of the 5 CCR. This course trains individuals to provide initial emergency care in a variety of situations. Students receive a WestMed course completion certificate and an AHA CPR for Healthcare Provider card valid for two years. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Paramedic Refresher Courses EMT Refresher Classroom Course 24 Clock Hours Cost: $385 Prerequisites: Previous EMTtraining. This state approved 24-hour refresher course also fulfills the National Registry of EMT s T r a n s i t i o n r e q u i r e m e n t s. Instruction is provided in lecture and workshop format. Students receive (24) hours of state approved continuing education, a completed California state skills verification checklist (SVC) form, and an AHA CPR for the Healthcare Provider card valid for two years. All materials are provided. EMT Skills Verification 1 Clock Hour Cost: $50 Prerequisites: Previous EMT training. Individuals who require completion of their California 10-skills skills verification checklist can sign up for this session. Upon successful demonstration of skills, students will receive a completed California state skills verification checklist (SVC) form. There are no CE hours provided with this session. Paramedic Refresher Classroom Course 48 Clock Hours Cost: $480 Prerequisites: Previous paramedic training (San Jose,) This state approved 48-hour paramedic refresher c o u r s e m e e t s t h e requirements as an EMT- Paramedic to Paramedic transition course for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Instruction is delivered in lecture and workshop format. Students receive (48) hours of state-approved continuing education, a Pediatric Education for the Prehospital Provider (PEPP) card, and an AHA CPR for the Healthcare Provider card valid for two years. All materials are included. This course does not provide competencies in any skills area, nor does it provide a medical director's

signature. To complete your NRP re-registration, you will have to have your provider agency's medical director verify your competencies and sign your recertification form American Heart Association Courses Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Initial Course 12 Clock Hours Cost: $210 Prerequisite: Designed for healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies. This course is provided to healthcare professionals seeking an ACLS Provider Card, and for professionals seeking continuing education and improvement of professional skill sets. The course teaches basic life support, recognition and early management of periarrest conditions, management of cardiac arrest patients, identification and treatment of clinical situations, and resuscitation techniques. The course takes twelve hours and includes a skills assessment and examination with certified AHA ACLS Instructors. Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be awarded an American Heart Association ACLS Provider Course Completion Card, which is valid for two years. Students receive (12) hours of state approved EMS and California Board of Registered Nursing CE. ACLS Update Course Online Cost: $150 Prerequisite: Designed for healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies This course is provided online to healthcare professionals seeking an ACLS Provider Card renewal only. The course teaches basic life support, recognition and early management of peri-arrest conditions, management of cardiac arrest patients, identification and treatment of clinical situations, and resuscitation techniques. A certified instructor will provide hands-on training and step- bystep instruction, which includes: recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk of cardiopulmonary arrest, assessment procedures, respiratory management, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillators (AED) skills, defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion, intraosseous access and fluid bolus administration, and resuscitation techniques. Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be awarded American Heart Association PALS Provider Course Completion Card, which is valid for two years. Students receive (16) hours of state approved EMS and California Board of Registered Nursing continuing education. 6

PALS Update Course Online Cost: $150 Prerequisite: Designed for healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies This course is provided online to healthcare professionals seeking a PALS Provider Card renewal only. The course teaches basic life support, recognition and early management of peri-arrest conditions, management of cardiac arrest patients, identification and treatment of clinical situations, and resuscitation techniques. The course includes six- seven hours of online training followed by a one hour skills assessment and examination with a certified AHA PALS Instructor. Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be awarded an American Heart Association PALS Provider Course Completion Card, which is valid for two years. Students receive continuing education hours directly from the American Heart Association. PALS Update Course Classroom 8 Clock Hours Cost: $150 Prerequisite: Previous PALS course completion This course is provided to healthcare professionals seeking recertification of a PALS Provider Card. BLS HCP Initial/Update Classroom Course 5 Clock Hours Cost: $60 Prerequisite: None (San Jose, Merced) This Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Course 7 is designed from the American Heart Association s curriculum, provides a wide variety of healthcare professionals and students with the ability to recognize several life- threatening emergencies; perform CPR; use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED); and relieve choking in a safe, timely, and effective manner. This course includes instructional information on adult, child, and infant basic CPR methods. Students receive (5) hours of state approved EMS CE. BLS HCP Online Update Course Cost: $60 Prerequisite: Previous CPR training. (San Jose, Merced) This Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Course is designed from the American Heart Association s curriculum, provides a wide variety of healthcare professionals and students with the ability to recognize several life- threatening emergencies; perform CPR; use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED); and relieve choking in a safe, timely, and effective manner. This course includes instructional information on adult, child, and infant basic CPR methods; AED; and First Aid training for the home, workplace, and the general community. This course is offered in an online format followed by an on- site skills test. The online program is only available for C P R recertification. There are no CE hours for this course. Trauma Courses PreHospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Provider Course 16 Clock Hours Cost: $240 Prerequisites: Certification/licensure in emergency health care, such as first responder, EMT, nurse, or paramedic ( San Jose) This course is a two-day scenario-based program designed to provide participants with an understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the body systems and the kinematics of trauma. The course provides an understanding of the importance of rapid assessment, an overview of the treatment for multi-system trauma patients, and the knowledge and skills of pre-hospital trauma interventions. The course is designed to promote critical thinking skills in first providers. EMS students receive continuing education directly from the NAEMT and nurses receive (16) hours of California

Board of Registered Nursing continuing education. PreHospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Refresher Course 8 Clock Hours Cost: $175 Prerequisites: Current PHTLS certification. This course is a one-day scenario-based program designed to provide participants with an understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the body systems and the kinematics of trauma. The course provides an understanding of the importance of rapid assessment, an overview of the treatment for multi-system trauma patients, and the knowledge and skills of pre-hospital trauma interventions. The course is designed to promote critical thinking skills in first providers. Students must have a current PHTLS credential in order to sit for the renewal c o u r s e. EMS students receive continuing education directly from the NAEMT and nurses receive (8) hours of California Board of Registered Nursing continuing education. Customized Courses Contact the San Jose Campus for further information. (408) 236-1159 or CEU@westmedcollege.edu These customized courses are designed for licensed/certified EMT s, paramedics, and nurses upon request of their employer agencies. WestMed College has the ability to create customized content for delivery either on-site or at the College s Campuses. Courses can be created with specific or varied audiences, which may include Fire, EMS and Nursing professionals. Courses are tailored to meet the needs and objectives of the audience. WestMed College uses highly skilled educators to produce content for its courses. Subject Matter Experts are made up of MD s, Nurses and Paramedics. Courses are delivered using Faculty who specialize in the course content. Along with specialized content, WestMed College has the ability to deliver classes using state-of-the-art equipment including High-Fidelity Patient Simulators. Students receive continuing education hours based on the duration and content of the course(s), which varies by offering. Medical Courses IV Therapy and Blood Withdrawal Certificate 36 Clock Hours Cost: $250 Prerequisites: Licensure in nursing. (Merced) This course offers 27 hours of theory/lecture instruction and nine hours of lab/clinical work. Subjects covered through lectures and lab work include patient assessment, charting procedures, and patient care in a variety of healthcare settings. Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) students will also learn patient preparation, needle insertion techniques, administration of Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) rate of delivery, infusion sets, new IV drugs, and pediatric start techniques. Upon successful completion of this course and 3 successful IV starts, LVNs will receive a Certificate of Completion for Intravenous Therapy from the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT). The BVNPT will not certify unlicensed professionals in IV therapy. 8
