1 HEARTSHARE TRAINING SERVICES, INC S. Winchester Blvd. Suite #K-230 San Jose, CA (408) A.C.L.S. Recertification Course Dear ACLS Recertification Participant: The one day ACLS Recertification Course is designed to teach you the lifesaving skills required to be both a team member and a team leader in either an in-hospital or out-of-hospital setting. Because the ACLS Recertification Course covers extensive material in a short amount of time, you will need to prepare for the course beforehand by thoroughly reading all of the course materials and completing the pre-course self assessment. Sign-in begins 30 minutes before class time. Students are expected to attend and participate in the entire course. Pre-Requisite for this course is a current ACLS Provider completion card issued from an American Heart Association Training Center (card must have AHA logo). You will be required to show proof upon checking into this class. If proof is not provided upon check in, you may not be admitted into class. Suggestions from HeartShare Training Instructors: 1. BLS- The resuscitation scenarios require that your BLS skills and knowledge are current. You will be tested on adult 1-rescuer CPR and AED. You should read the current CPR guidelines before coming to class in either the ACLS or the BLS text book. 2. ECGS- Review and understand ECG interpretation and basic pharmacology. You will not be taught how to read or interpret ECGs in this course, nor will you be taught details about ACLS pharmacology. Our instructors suggest that you visit to review basic rhythms before class. There is a free tool on this website that allows you to interpret rhythms in real-time and asses your knowledge. If you find that your skills in ECG are deficient, we recommend our two-day ECG and Pharmacology preparatory course. 3. BOOK- Our experience demonstrates that the students who successfully complete the written exam on their first attempt are typically the students who have read the book. Set yourself up for success by getting a copy of the book at least a week before your class and reading it entirely. You are required to have the full text (and ideally pocket cards) available to you on the day of class for maximum retention 4. PRE-TEST- The American Heart Association offers a pre-course self-assessment online. This pre-test can give you an excellent idea of what to expect from the information in your ACLS course. Please visit and enter the code from page ii of your text. This is not required for admission to the course but is strongly recommended. 5. Review the Guidelines Comparison Chart for ACLS 2010 at the bottom of this form. We also recommend that you spend some focused study time on pages of your ACLS manual as these pages highlight many of the recent changes to the guidelines. 6. Bring proof of identification; a driver s license, passport or green card. What to Wear: For our onsite classes, you will not be required to get on the floor. However, you should wear comfortable clothing and expect vigorous classroom activity. CPR is physically exerting and we will be measuring your competency. If you have an injury that could prevent your active participation, please notify our staff before class begins Continuing Education: Because not everyone is eligible for continuing education credit for this course, it is not included in the course cost. Students who are eligible will be able to purchase continuing education credit for $12.00 and will need to request this service at the time of sign-in. Cancellation Policy: HOSPITALS: A full 7 working days notice of cancellation is required. Call HeartShare Training Services at (408) If 7 working days notice is not given, the hospital will be billed for the entire fee and any textbook costs. INDIVIDUAL ENROLLMENT: All fees are non-refundable, and may only be used as a credit toward another course provided a full 14 working days notice is provided to the training center. Current American Heart Association books/materials are required for all courses and students must have them available for use before, during and after the course. Students who arrive without the current books/materials will need to purchase them at class, at the door. Students failing to either bring or buy the current books/materials will be required to reschedule at their convenience and expense. Sales on all course books/materials are non-refundable. The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS, ACLS and PALS and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the American Heart Association, and any fees charged for such a course do not represent income to the Association. Thank you. 1
