MISSION CRER Betim Incorporate renewable energy services in local development and be a center of information and dissemination of technologies and projects in renewable energy to inspire public policies and actions in other cities.

OBJECTIVES Keep relevant information to the subject and aid the dissemination of ideas on renewable energy, causing impacts to the local, regional and global, contributing to:

-Expand and improve access to low cost renewable energy for low-income population; -Reduce the Greenhouse Gas emissions and other local pollutants; -Use and promote cheaper and more sustainable sources of energy; -Create direct and indirect jobs; -Improve the overall population s quality of life

EXTERNAL ACTIONS IMPLEMENTED: 2. Energy Efficient street lighting in Betim: National program for street lighting- RELUZ program with the replacement of 20.571 open light bulbs, using mercury vapor lamps and reactors for closed lights using sodium vapor lamps and reactors.

EXTERNAL ACTIONS IMPLEMENTED: 2. Energy Efficient urban street lighting in Betim April to September 2007 Betim is named the first totally yellow city in Minas Gerais Total Project Budget: R$ 5.579.779,10

Energy Efficient urban street lighting in Betim: Benefits: CRER Betim EXTERNAL ACTIONS IMPLEMENTED: - 15% economy in the electricity consumption of street lighting during peak hours; - Improvements in safety and quality of life; - Immediate economic advantages with the reduction of the electricity bill, and reduction of the citzens public lighting fee.

Audience: 682 people

EXTERNAL ACTIONS IMPLEMENTED: 5. Workshop on ASBC Low Cost Solar Heater production USP Project / Sociedade do Sol 5.1. Workshops at The Environment Department: - 2 workshops per month, from March to November 2008, with 25 participants each total: 440 people

EXTERNAL ACTIONS IMPLEMENTED: 8. Help implementing the Energy Optimization Program, through the creation of CICE (Internal Comission on Energy Conservation) at ASMUBE (Public Servants Association of Betim) start in August 2008; 9. Lectures on Energy Saving, held on the Regional Hospital and Rosetti company November 2008; 10. Requirement for water solar heaters and rain water harvesting in all residential buildings with more then 30 units in 2008.

Waste Full reuse Proposal: - Organic waste Biotreatment, with the following results: - Biogas: Linked to the gas distribution network; - Solid bioferilizer: Used as a natural fertilizer in agriculture. - Liquid biofertilizer: Used as plague defense and nourishing fertilizing-irrigation.
