University of Colorado at Boulder BUENO Center for Multicultural Education Scholarship Opportunity for Middle and High School STEM Teachers (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
Dear Secondary Science, Technology, Engineering or Math Teacher, The University of Colorado BUENO Center for Multicultural Education was awarded a grant to develop and implement a program that provides secondary STEM teachers an opportunity to earn a Master of Arts degree in Education, Equity and Cultural Diversity (EECD) and a state-recognized endorsement in English as a Second Language (ESL). The EECD Master s program offers a course of study devoted to the critical examination of theory, practice, and policy in the education of culturally and linguistically diverse students. The program stresses analysis, evaluation, and implementation of educational programs for secondary students with diverse learning needs within the public school system. School culture, language policies, and the social and political context of schooling are examined. Policies that affect the assessment, placement, and services provided for exceptional children are also examined. The program will pay scholarship recipient s tuition costs for all courses. Students will be required to pay for books. All persons seeking admission to this program must: 1) have earned a bachelor s degree from an accredited institution; 2) must have earned a minimum 2.75 undergraduate GPA; and, ) must have some experience teaching secondary students or adult learners. This program will begin summer semester of 2014. Following is a list of courses and the proposed timeline for offering program courses in this Master s program. Students will take courses as a cohort. Funding ends summer of 2016. Students not completing the program by summer of 2016 will be responsible for completing the program without federal support. If you are selected for this program, a meeting will be held in April to provide you information about applying to CU s Graduate School. This program will begin summer semester of 2014 and scholarship recipients should expect to enroll in two courses.

The goal of this program is to provide secondary STEM teachers an opportunity to earn a Master of Arts degree in Education, Equity and Cultural Diversity and a state-recognized endorsement in English as a Second Language. By signing the form below, the applicant acknowledges an understanding of the rules that govern this program. 1. Students must maintain a.0 Grade Point Average in this program. Failure to maintain this GPA will result in loss of the scholarship. 2. This scholarship will only cover in state tuition costs.. Tuition for all program courses is covered by this scholarship. Scholarship recipients are responsible for student fees. 4. Scholarship recipients are responsible for the purchase of books for all courses. 5. Acceptance by the Graduate Schools is a requirement for participation in this program. 6. Students must attend classes on the University of Colorado, Boulder campus. 7. The scholarship will only pay tuition for required courses in the EECD Master s program. Students wishing to enroll in courses not required by the program may do so at their own expense. 8.
