3 Extensive asbestos course for supervisors and ship s crew This training course imparts an extensive level of awareness of: asbestos and associated risks recognition of materials containing asbestos handling of materials containing asbestos asbestos abatement This extensive training course is a combination of our courses on asbestos recognition and handling, as well as asbestos abatement, but goes deeper into the different subjects. The training provides plenty of opportunities for practical exercises, enabling participants to enhance both theoretical knowledge and on-the-job skills. Target group superintendents ships crews This training is customized for the different stakeholders. Different stakeholders will therefore work in separate groups. examination 2 days, plus ½ day examination certificate of success 4 Asbestos awareness training for fleet management Our basic ½ day course on asbestos awareness for management imparts knowledge of: the legislative background of asbestos: what rules and regulations apply? considerations for management: what are the management risks associated with hazardous materials on board? risk management and solutions: what actions should you consider and why? The upcoming IMO Hong Kong Convention for the safe and environmentally sound recycling of ships has meant that there has been more attention given to hazardous materials on board. In addition, SOLAS (the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea) prohibits any new installation of asbestos-containing materials on new build and existing ships with 500 GT and above. For managers, this raises new issues; for example, ships are already regularly examined by officials for asbestos on board without any prior warning. If conditions are dangerous, the ship is declared as non inspectable, with a consequential ban from territorial waters or detention, and a loss of charter due to the fact that the ship is not fit for purpose. This training provides managers with the information they need so they can respond to these new developments. Practically, it enables managers to estimate risks and make use of new opportunities.
