Work safely on board Prepare yourself with m.a.r.c!

m.a.r.c Knowing about hazardous materials means that you will be able to work in a safe environment and be ahead of the competition. How come? Firstly, hazardous materials may constitute a threat to health and to the environment if you don t handle them correctly. Also, different national and/or international legislative documents and policies put restrictions on ships that carry hazardous materials. Knowing about these materials enables you and/or your crew to take the right measures when needed, something that can directly influence your market chances. To enable stakeholders in the maritime sector to work safely and soundly, and to stay one step ahead of the competition, m.a.r.c offers in-house trainings for management, superintendents and crew. Professional trainers m.a.r.c trainers are all qualified experts with many years of practical experience. Our trainings in a nutshell. We offer four standard programmes: 1 Dealing with asbestos on board, for supervisors and crew. 2 Asbestos abatement for yard workers. 3 Extensive asbestos training for superintendents and ship s crew. 4 Asbestos awareness training for fleet management. We also have a lot of experience in designing customized trainings, according to your specific needs. All our trainings are concluded with a. 1 Dealing with asbestos on board, for superintendents and crew Participants of this training enhance their knowledge and awareness of: asbestos and health recognition of asbestos-suspicious materials handling of asbestos-suspicious materials This training enables those who handle asbestos materials to raise awareness about the asbestos situation on board. Practically, participants will learn why and where asbestos is likely to be found on board. Additionally, participants learn what to do if they suspect a ship may contain asbestos. The training enables superintendents and crew to work safely and take the right action if asbestos materials are found. Topics that are dealt with what is asbestos? health risks how to recognize asbestos how to assess risks and reduce exposure how to handle asbestos on board other safety measures that should be taken

Target group This training course is useful for those who have to handle hazardous materials in practice, such as superintendents and the technical staff on board ships. Superintendents will understand the potential risks that are associated with asbestos and they will be able to assess the need for sampling. This enables proper health management and timely planning for further ship operations. Technical staff on board will be able to gauge the safety situation on board and handle suspicious materials in a correct way. Having this knowledge will reduce the risk of incidents. 1 day 2 Asbestos abatement for yard workers This training provides knowledge of: asbestos abatement This training enables participants to abate asbestos in a safe way, thus reducing the risk of health and environmental incidents. Topics that are dealt with an introduction to asbestos asbestos abatement procedures the use of personal protection equipment entrance and exit procedures Target group This training course is useful for those who handle hazardous materials in practice. It is useful for asbestos workers who are in charge of abating asbestos once it is found., or native language 1 day

3 Extensive asbestos course for supervisors and ship s crew This training course imparts an extensive level of awareness of: asbestos and associated risks recognition of materials containing asbestos handling of materials containing asbestos asbestos abatement This extensive training course is a combination of our courses on asbestos recognition and handling, as well as asbestos abatement, but goes deeper into the different subjects. The training provides plenty of opportunities for practical exercises, enabling participants to enhance both theoretical knowledge and on-the-job skills. Target group superintendents ships crews This training is customized for the different stakeholders. Different stakeholders will therefore work in separate groups. examination 2 days, plus ½ day examination certificate of success 4 Asbestos awareness training for fleet management Our basic ½ day course on asbestos awareness for management imparts knowledge of: the legislative background of asbestos: what rules and regulations apply? considerations for management: what are the management risks associated with hazardous materials on board? risk management and solutions: what actions should you consider and why? The upcoming IMO Hong Kong Convention for the safe and environmentally sound recycling of ships has meant that there has been more attention given to hazardous materials on board. In addition, SOLAS (the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea) prohibits any new installation of asbestos-containing materials on new build and existing ships with 500 GT and above. For managers, this raises new issues; for example, ships are already regularly examined by officials for asbestos on board without any prior warning. If conditions are dangerous, the ship is declared as non inspectable, with a consequential ban from territorial waters or detention, and a loss of charter due to the fact that the ship is not fit for purpose. This training provides managers with the information they need so they can respond to these new developments. Practically, it enables managers to estimate risks and make use of new opportunities.

Target group Our ½ day asbestos awareness course is especially useful for managers involved in shipping and ship recycling. Some examples: Ship managements will gain a good idea of asbestos-related issues on board ship. They will enhance their knowledge of the relation between asbestos risks and the operational status of the ship, enabling them to anticipate liability issues for example. Shipyard managements will gain good insight into asbestos issues on board. They will be able to assess risks that may be associated with asbestos and anticipate owners and workers liability issues that may result from asbestos-related incidents. The course enables the managements of ship recycling facilities to understand the asbestos situation on board at an early stage. This allows them to assess the need for asbestos surveys carried out by experts before the purchase of a ship. Management can use the knowledge acquired in the training for the further planning of recycling preparations, facility development, trainings and much more. presentations discussion case study 1/2 day Customized trainings On request, we design trainings and training materials according to your specific needs for knowledge and skills. Please contact us to discuss the possibilities. Prices Prices differ according to the particular training, its location, the number of participants and the extent to which the training is customized.
