1 REGULATIONS FOR MASTER IN MEDICINE(FAMILY MEDICINE) DISTANCE EDUCATION In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 44 of the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai Act 1987 (Tamil Nadu Act 37 of 1987) the Standing Academic Board of the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai hereby makes the following regulations:- 1. SHORT TITLE AND COMMENCEMENT: These regulations shall be called as MASTER IN MEDICINE(FAMILY MEDICINE) THROUGH THE MODE OF DISTANCE EDUCATION of the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai. These regulations shall come into force from the academic year 2011-2012. The regulation framed is subject to modification from time to time and approved by the Standing Academic Board. This course is not approved by Medical Council of India. 2. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: The MASTER IN MEDICINE " FAMILY MEDICINE " THROUGH THE MODE OF DISTANCE EDUCATION course is designed as a comprehensive package wherein the candidates get exposure to the various disciplines with particular emphasis on their clinical skills. This course caters to the medical graduates to offer quality primary medical care. 3. ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION : of India. MBBS Degree obtained in any university recognized by Medical Council
2 4. ELIGIBILITY CERTIFICATE : Candidates who have passed MBBS qualifying examination other than the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University should obtain an Eligibility Certificate from this University by remitting the prescribed fees along with the application form. The application form is available in the University website: www.tnmgrmu.ac.in. 5. DURATION OF THE COURSE: The duration of the course is two years, through Distance Education mode. All the students should attend all the contact classes and attendance certificate is compulsory and mandatory. 6. ADMISSION TO THE COURSE: The admission to MASTER IN MEDICINE (FAMILY MEDICINE) programmes is 1 st August to 31 st August. 7. SELECTION OF CANDIDATES: The list of eligible candidates will be published in the web site. 8. COMMENCEMENT OF THE COURSE: The Courses will commence on 1 st August of every year.

CURRICULUM : The Curriculum and the syllabus for the course shall be as prescribed in these regulations and are subject to modifications by the Standing Academic Board from time to time and will be published in the University website : www.tnmgrmu.ac.in 10. MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION: English shall be the Medium of Instruction for all the Subjects of study. 11. REGISTRATION: The selected candidates admitted to MASTER IN MEDICINE(FAMILY MEDICINE) THROUGH THE DISTANCE EDUCATION MODE shall register his/her name with this University by submitting the prescribed application form for registration duly filled in, along with the prescribed fee and a declaration in the format to the university. 12. IMPORTANT NOTE TO CANDIDATES: Students who want to discontinue their course after the completion of 1st year/ 2nd year should inform the controller of examination before the 31st May of every year otherwise, full fees will be collected for the subsequent years. Only after receiving all the fees, his/her course completion certificate will be issued. In the case of discontinuance the certificate will indicates only the part of the course completed.
4 13. SEMINAR / CONTACT PROGRAMMES: Every Month there will be contact classes for one day. The forenoon session will be in the clinics in the Government Hospitals and afternoon Session theory classes will be conducted in the University. 14. COMMENCEMENT OF THE EXAMINATIONS: Regular Examinations will commence from 1 st August and supplementary Examinations will commence from 1 st February. If the date of commencement of the examination falls on Saturday, Sunday or declared Public Holidays, the examination shall begin on the next working day. 15. COURSE DETAILS: Each contact session comprises of clinics in the morning and theory / lecture classes in the evening. There will be 24 contact classes during the entire course period. There will be an examination at the end of Ist year and a qualifying examination at the end of IInd year. The failed candidates can carry over their subjects to the second year. The candidate should complete the course in double the duration (i.e. 4 years) The examination will consist of theory, practical/clinical and viva. Each paper should be passed individually in theory, practical/clinical and viva separately. The candidate should submit the log book 3 months prior to the final examination which will be evaluated and marks added to IA.
5 16. GENERAL INFORMATION: Certificate to be enclosed with application. MBBS or equivalent from MCI recognition Registration from MCI / SMC Transfer Certificate/course Completion Certificate from the Head of the Institution where the applicant last studied. Provisional/Degree Certificate of the qualifying examinations passed by him/her. Statement of marks for MBBS. If the certificates are in a language other than English/Tamil, an authenticated translation in English should be sent along with the originals duly attested by a Gazetted Officer. A Course Completion Certificate will be issued by the University on completion of the course, if the candidate has no arrears of fee. Candidates who have completed the course are permitted to take the examinations in which they have not passed even after this issue of the Course Completion Certificate till the regulation under which the candidate has undergone the course is in force. All the original certificates would be returned after verification. The filled in application form along with the necessary Certificates/Documents should be sent to the Controller of Examination, The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai.
