Vision Statement - Priority 1: Life-Long Faith Formation CRHP Christ Renews His Parish a. Start up this program again in our parish b. It was a very good thing for the parish and we were supposed to continue it! c. Form Continuation Committee with former CRHP members and start a new weekend for women and men d. In order for it to continue everyone must follow the program to the letter! No changes! Follow the books and instructions! Increase understanding and devotion to Blessed Mother. I would like to see proud Catholicism. People are looking for the truth, and I think we need programs that show our history and our connection with the universal church, all the way back to the very beginning. We have an incredible gift and I think we have to be bold in offering it. As a practical measure, maybe we could start with a Catholic information program (not RCIA, just info) based on sermons by Fr. Barron. we are a mystery to some of our own members. Continue to energize us in formation of our faith, especially adult catechesis. Question of the week in the bulletin. (Currently a feature in the bulletin.) Bible study group or liturgy study group. (taught by knowledgeable, trained biblical scholar) I would like to see education on annulments so that couples in need understand and proceed with the process More Retreat/ Parish Mission Opportunities a. Could Cathedral Parish sponsor more Parish Retreats or Parish Missions? b. Could Cathedral Parish sponsor retreats at Marywood for our parishioners? Liturgy of the hours incorporated into daily mass or once a week. Women s Group a. Women of Grace program b. Women s Faith Formation Divine Mercy Hour Prayers Every Friday a. Every Friday 3pm in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel b. Led by Priest on Duty or different people (form a committee) c. Sometimes chanted? d. Same format every week: Divine Mercy Chaplet One of the recommendations for growing the Liturgical Spirituality of a parish is to print the Question of the Week in the bulletin. Then at every parish meeting, including religious classes, begin with a brief sharing of the question. THIS WORKS. People begin to really tune into the Gospel and homily. And the Gospel begins to relate to daily life. Takes a little while to get going but the results are worth it. One piece of history of the cathedral each week. Bring back the Book Club 1

Vision Statement - Priority 2: We are a Welcoming Parish A hospitality Ministry. If we are to grow, we need to welcome new Catholics (to the community and to the parish). It s OK for ushers to hold the door open and say good morning but a hospitality ministry involves walking up to strangers, making eye contact, and making them feel welcomed (like your little black lady in Oakland). The men s group has started the ball rolling. Dennis does a great job of recruiting. Now we need an active women s group and representatives from each of the men s and women s organizations to create this new community outreach. Hi, I m Charlie. Welcome to Cathedral parish. Are you a member of our parish? Are you visiting? Would you like to meet some members of our parish? Events below are not listed as high, medium or low. However, these suggestions may provide an initial list of suggestions for a Hospitality Ministry. a. More events for Parishioners to get together (socially) b. Have Quarterly pot luck dinners (once a quarter) c. Parish Council hosts the dinners and assigns what to bring (Example: A E Drinks, F M Main Dishes, N R Side Dishes, S Z Desserts, etc.) d. Parish provides all Paper Products e. Live entertainment provided by Cathedral Music Ministry fun music! (They would love to do this at least most would!) f. Have themes for the Parish Pot lucks???? Everyone dresses up, music fits theme, decorations, etc. FUN! i. 50s (Poodle Skirts and 50s Music) ii. 70s (Disco, etc.) iii. Country Western Theme iv. Oktoberfest German v. Italian Night vi. Irish Night g. Potluck suppers once a quarter. h. Women s Group wine and cheese gatherings. i. 5 pm Mass wine and cheese hour (we don t have donuts and coffee available) Outreach to young adults: single parents, divorced. Encourage different times for some of the groups to meet (working mom s can t make 9 am meetings for Altar Guild, etc) I think we need to have more young family s participation in cathedral activities. 2

Vision Statement - Priority 3: Effective Outreach Better outreach to homeless and destitute. Social Justice Ministry s participation in feeding programs, etc. is admirable, but we need to go further. How to address the unfortunates who ring the front door bell at the Rectory on a regular basis? At present, we re mostly referring them to Catholic Charities and St. Vincent de Paul. St. James Cathedral in Seattle actually assigns parishioners to help with the needs of these folks. Difficult to do but an admirable model. Bring 7 catholic Social Justice Teachings to the forefront. Take a more active/positive stance on the environment beginning with recycling. There are no recycle bins for coffee/donuts after masses. Vision Statement - Priority 4: Helping each other Discern Vocations How about an Acolyte program for men. 3

Capital Improvements Repairs & Upgrades a. Paint everything~ inside and out~ Church, Rectory, Parish Center, etc. (repair plasterwhere needed) b. New Windows for Rectory c. New flooring throughout Rectory (1st and 2nd Floor at least) d. Remodel Verot Room e. Repair Built In Gutters around church to prevent future leaks f. Repair/restore Cathedral Pews and Kneelers (and Hymnal Holders Remodel Sacristy! a. New Wood Floor throughout Sacristy b. New Lights in Sacristy c. Paint Sacristy d. Remodel Nursery Bathroom e. Remodel Altar Guild Room The Parish Council members on the committee to prioritize parishioner s dreams, believes the 2 bullet points above must be completed in conjunction with the building of a hall or gathering place for events that is on the property of the Cathedral. (Assuming a Capital Campaign will be required for all.) Gate around Rectory Courtyard/ Increased Security for Rectory. a. Better Locks on all Doors b. Better Locks on all Windows (new windows) c. Possible Security System for Rectory or Panic Buttons several places in Rectory d. Overall better security for our priests! New fence at Tolamato Cementary. Completion of the Cathedral organ, for which an antiphonal division and trompette en chamade are already prepared in the organ console. Get the choir out of the sanctuary. Build a choir loft in its original position over the front doors of the Cathedral. Renovation and upkeep of St. Benedict s rectory. Columbaria in courtyards of Cathedral. Restoration of St. Benedict s School. 4

450th Celebration Formation of a 450th Committee. The following suggestions or parishioner dream s are NOT listed on a priority basis. As with the Hospitality Ministry, we believe the priorities would be determined after the formation of the 450th Committee. a. Bishop of Aviles, Spain to concelebrate Mass on 9/8/15. b.450th concerns: Concerts in celebration of the 450th. JSO: wouldn t fit in the cathedral and it s easy enough to hear them in JAX. Chanticleer: too pricey. Would like to see three concerts: an a cappella ensemble; a stellar chamber orchestra or string quartet; and a world class organist. There could be some smaller scale local talent concerts as well. Committee should be formed to research possibilities. c. 450th one other thing; include a gorgeous celebration of the Traditional Latin Mass as part of the festivities. d. Invite all former Cathedral pastors and parochial vicars to all 450th events dinners, celebrations, prayers, Masses, concerts e. Send each of the former pastors and parochial vicars very elegant invitations~ well in advance~ so they plan on being with us to celebrate! f. As part of the 450th celebration have a large stage by the Great Cross and invite all of the youth of our Diocese to participate in a St. Augustine Youth Day with national speakers, famous Catholic Musicians, etc have it televised (or parts of it) on EWTN and local news. g. Relics of Saint Augustine love that idea you could make this a pilgrimage site for 2015. h. Elegant Dinners (2 or 3) at Parish Center for Parishioners during 450th year 2015 tickets free for Parishioners, but donations accepted getting our parishioners to dress up and socialize together. Catered elegant like a Wedding Reception~ in the summer time when school is out. Let s celebrate our 450th in style! Wine & beer, live music i. One vision I have is a documentary film (DVD) of the history and day to day life and heartbeat of the parish we could use it to celebrate the 450th anniversary, we could sell it in the bookstore or maybe show it for donations to visitors. We could highlight old pictures and older parishioners and young families. I ll bet some of the Catholic Flagler students could help with this project. I would be honored to help as well. I would also love to see volunteers organized to help get the parish spic and span clean for the 450th. Ann Marie LaVista 5

Other Tell us how we can contact and exchange our parish seminarians; post it in bulletin and online. More interaction with Sisters of St. Joseph Reintroduce adult religious education while children are attending Religious Education. Recognition of the 3rd Orders i.e. Franciscans, Carmelite, etc. Information on them in bulletin. One night a week evening mass (6:30 when the kids are at CFP an evening mass followed by a 15 minute topic before parents pick up their kids would be great Lending library take donations of books, DVDs, etc; honor system; locate it somewhere accessible even at night (til 6 pm), weekends. To invite the U.S. Army Band to play and celebrate the oldest US city! World Youth Day host it here in 2015 Develop liaison with St. Augustine Historical Society to sponsor programs of mutual interest on city s religious development. Sponsor concert by world class organist (selected by Shannon) Civil Rights history of St. Benedicts 6
