Our Mission Mission Canadian Coast Guard services support government priorities and economic prosperity and contribute to the safety, accessibility and security of Canadian waters. The Canada Shipping Act, Oceans Act, and Arctic Waters Pollution Prevention Act are the basis for providing services for the safe, economical and efficient movement of ships in Canadian waters through the provision of: Aids to navigation systems and services Marine Communications and Traffic Services Search and Rescue program Marine pollution response Fleet Operations Support of government departments, agencies through the provision of ships, aircraft and other marine services. 2

Aids to Navigation Aids to Navigation services provide navigational safety information to mariners. Each aid has a distinct identification and color coding for a safety warning. Clients include the shipping industry, recreational boaters, commercial fishers all mariners Traffic volume and degree of risk determine the type of navigational aid. 6

Marine Communications and Traffic Services MCTS Officers are the Eyes and Ears of the Coast Continuously monitoring shipping movements and radio communications. Operating a network of strategically placed VHF Radio towers, AIS transceivers and Radar sites. Providing real time vessel traffic information, safety and weather broadcast services and marine communications assistance to public and commercial users. 8

Search and Rescue Objectives: Save 100% of lives at risk. Minimize loss of life, injury, property damage and risk to the environment. Reduce number & severity of incidents. Provide humanitarian aid and civil assistance where possible. 10
