UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSIONS 2015 ENTRY International Students Applicants should be those who need a student visa to study in Hong Kong www.cuhk.edu.hk/adm/intl Application Deadlines Advance Offer: 18 November 2014 Regular Deadline: 6 January 2015 Admission Requirements Minimum Requirements for Application General Requirements Applicants shall be eligible to apply for admission if, by 1 September of the year in which admission is sought, they possess any of the following qualifications: GCE-AL/International-AL (3AL/2AL+2AS in one sitting) International Baccalaureate Diploma a recognised non-local qualification which qualifies them for admission to a university in the country/region where such qualification is originated (e.g. high school diploma plus SAT in USA, UEC/STPM in Malaysia, ATAR in Australia, OSSD in Canada, GSAT in Taiwan) Completed at least one year of study leading to the qualification of associate degree/higher diploma or its equivalent Completed at least one year of undergraduate study at a recognised university Other exceptional achievements which merit admission Language Requirements International applicants should have attained an acceptable level of proficiency in English. Below are the minimum required scores or grades for some of the more common acceptable examinations. Selection Criteria Applicants will be considered on the basis of their education background and academic achievements. If they are invited to attend an interview, their performance at the interview will also be taken into consideration. Different study programmes have their own selection schedules. Shortlisted candidates will be notified of arrangements for interviews by phone, email or mail. Admission with Advanced Standing Applicants who meet specific requirements as stipulated by the University for particular qualifications (including IB, GCE-AL/International-AL, Cambridge Pre-U, HKALE, associate degree and higher diploma) may apply for "Admission with Advanced Standing". The minimum number of units for graduation for students admitted with Advanced Standing may be reduced by up to 24 (normative period of study may be reduced by up to one year). Application for Admission Advance Offer To facilitate outstanding candidates in making informed decisions among all early offers they receive from the various universities, candidates who apply to CUHK on or before 18 November 2014 will be considered for advance offers. Applicants who wish to be considered in the Advance Offer round should submit information and supporting documents on their academic background and qualifications. In this round, applicants may be considered for either a firm or conditional offer depending on individual merits, and those selected for advance offers will be notified on or before 30 December 2014. Applicants who are not given an advance offer will compete on equal footing with all other applicants in the Regular round, the application deadline of which is 6 January 2015.

Scholarships A number of scholarships and bursaries funded by the Hong Kong Government as well as private donations are available for international students commencing full-time undergraduate studies at CUHK in September 2015. The value of the scholarships varies from HK$60,000 to HK$165,000 per year. Some awards are renewable on an annual basis and tenable for up to the duration of undergraduate studies undertaken by the awardees at CUHK, subject to continued satisfactory academic records and demonstrable financial need. All international applicants who have been offered admission will be automatically considered for scholarships. No separate application is required. U.S. Federal Student Financial Aid Programs U.S. students attending CUHK and enrolled in full-time undergraduate or postgraduate degree programmes as approved by the US Education Department can apply for William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program to help pay their education expenses. The Federal School Code for CUHK is G22074. For details, please visit: www.federalstudentaid.ed.gov. Credit Transfers Applicants who have taken courses at undergraduate level before admission to the University may apply for credit exemption upon registration as CUHK students. Such applications will be considered on individual merits. Working in Hong Kong Non-local full-time students (excluding exchange students) may take up internships (subject to a few conditions), part-time on-campus employment for not more than 20 hours per week throughout the year, and employment during the summer months without any limit in relation to work hours or location. Students can apply to stay/return and work in Hong Kong under the Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates after their graduation. Please visit the Immigration Department website at www.immd.gov.hk for further information. Life @ CUHK Hostel Accommodation On-campus residence is available to all international students. Leisure Leisure complements study and adds another dimension to your education at CUHK. For fun and fitness, students can access to 2 sport fields, 4 gymnasia, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, fitness rooms and a Water Sports Centre. Cultural diversions are available at our Art Museums and Galleries, the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall, which has a seating capacity of 1,438 and at the 269-seat Lee Hysan Concert Hall, which boasts Asia's most advanced concert facilities. Students can take their pick from over 100 interest clubs. International Student Services The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) manages the International House and provides off-campus housing information to non-local students. With the aim of promoting a diverse campus, the OSA organises cultural and recreational activities and supports and offers advice to associations of non-local students. To help non-local undergraduate students tackle adjustment and learning-related issues, the OSA tailors new student orientations and provides individual guidance for them via a group of Learning Enhancement Officers.
