FEATURES Durability and easy maintenance characterize the Rosemount Analytical Model 499A membrane-covered amperometric sensors. The sensors have rugged molded Noryl (polyphenylene oxide) bodies and are suitable for flow-through or submersion mounting. Pressure changes have little influence on sensor response. A flexible bladder in the sensor prevents distortion of the membrane by keeping the pressure inside the sensor equal to the sample pressure. Maintenance is fast and easy. Replacing the membrane requires no special tools or fixtures. Simply place the membrane assembly on the cathode and screw the retainer in place. Installing a new membrane and replenishing the electrolyte takes only a few minutes. A Pt 100 RTD in the sensor (Delta-compatible sensors use thermistors) allows correction for changes in sensor output caused by temperatureinduced variations in membrane permeability. The sensors are compatible with Rosemount Analytical Model 1054A and 1054B amperometric analyzers and with the Delta 900, 5310, and 8200/8300 series amperometric instruments. See the compatibility table on page 3 for details. FREE RESIDUAL CHLORINE SENSOR: APPLICATIONS The Model 499A CL sensor is intended for the continuous measurement of free residual chlorine in the range 0 to 3 ppm. Free residual chlorine is the mixture of hypochlorous acid and hypochlorite ion created when chlorine gas or sodium hypochlorite is dissolved in water. The sensor is not intended for the determination of combined chlorine (chloramines) or other halogen oxidants (chlorine dioxide, bromine, or iodine). For the determination of higher levels of chlorine (3-20 ppm), consult the factory. Chlorine finds extensive use as a disinfectant in potable water filter plants and in wastewater treatment facilities. Most plants are required by law to continuously monitor chlorine in the finished water or in the plant effluent. Free chlorine measurements are also made in the food and pharmaceutical industries, where chlorine is used to disinfect process streams. Chlorine is also an effective algaecide in open cooling water systems. continued on page 2
continued from page 1 DISSOLVED OXYGEN SENSOR: APPLICATIONS The Model 499A DO sensor is designed for the continuous determination of dissolved oxygen in water in the range 0 to 20 ppm. The primary application is aeration basins in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants. The sensor can also be used to measure dissolved oxygen in aquaculture ponds. DISSOLVED OZONE SENSOR: APPLICATIONS The Model 499A OZ sensor is intended for the continuous determination of dissolved ozone in water in the range 0 to 10 ppm. Potable water filter plants are major users of ozone. Treating the raw water with ozone reduces the amount of filter aid chemicals (coagulants and flocculants) needed and lowers plant operating costs. Pretreatment with ozone also reduces the amount of chlorine needed to disinfect the finished water. Lowering the chlorine feed reduces the level of harmful chlorination by-products (trihalomethanes) in the product water. ORDERING INFORMATION Model 499A Amperometric Sensors are designed for use with Rosemount Analytical Model 1054A and 1054B amperometric analyzers and with the Delta line of amperometric instruments (see compatibility table on page 3 for details). The sensor has upper and lower 1-inch MNPT threads for process connection. The sensor can be inserted or immersed in the process stream, or if a continuous sample is available, the sensor can be mounted in a variety of flow cells. The standard cable length is 25 ft (7.6 m). The pressure equalizing bladder and the integral temperature sensor for membrane permeability corrections are standard. Three replacement membrane assemblies, three O-ring seals, and a 4-oz (125 ml) bottle of electrolyte solution are provided with each sensor. MODELS 499 A AMPEROMETRIC SENSORS with 25ft.
