Outline Biomethane as a transport fuel in Sweden What is LBG and LNG? Why LBG and LNG? BiMe Trucks Liquefied gas for heavy duty transports LNG Blue Corridors Demonstration on EU level EU-directive on infrastructure BiMe Trucks & LNG BC 2014-08-28 3
Why use biomethane in the transportsector? Targets : Swedish government: By 2050, Sweden will have a sustainable and resource-efficient energy supply and no net emissions of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Facts: The transport sector represents today one third of the Swedish CO2 emissions Biomethane one of the biofuels that are defined as important solution to reach target. What is LNG? LNG = Liquefied Natural Gas Cold condensed methane Concentrated energy Logistic solution Established technology Clean burning fuel BiMe Trucks & LNG BC 2014-08-28 7
What is LBG? LBG = Liquefied Biogas Cold condensed methane Concentrated energy Logistic solution Established technology Clean burning fuel BiMe Trucks & LNG BC 2014-08-28 8
Why LBG and LNG? Accessible energy - Industry - Road transport - Sea transport Decreased oil dependency Improves health, environment,& climate Increases biogas production Supports political goals Competitive prices Vision for supply and infrastructure. BiMe Trucks & LNG BC 2014-08-28 9
LNG supply in Sweden A number of production plants and terminals exist or are being planned in Scandinavia In addition, a number of smaller plants around Sweden as backup The first LNG terminal in Sweden was opened in May 2011 The second one will open in Lysekil this year. BiMe Trucks Sweden 2010-2013 The purpose of the project was to have a market introduction of liquefied biogas to heavy duty vehicles by coordinating the timetable for the vehicle introduction with the infrastructure of filling stations. The goal was to build 3 filling station and deliver 69 trucks to customers. Project partners: Co-funding:
The result 3 new filling stations and 69 new trucks on the road. 30 percent LBG in the fuel-mix within the project. Climate impact can be reduced by up to 70 percent by using a ratio of 75 percent LBG and 25 percent diesel. Extensive practical experience. An open and close dialogue between the partners of the project. Project partners: Co-funding:
Trucks, Infrastructure & Fuel Renewable content up to 50 % Based on mass balance/ Green gas principle BiMe Trucks & LNG BC 2014-08-28 15
LNG Blue Corridors demonstraton on EU level Several OEMs and retrofit companies demonstrate LNG tehnologies for EURO 6 emission standard - 100 additional vehicles on the road and in operation Developing infrastructure and demonstrating the fuel for market actors as a first step before large scale introduction - 14 additional refuelling stations to close the gap in infrastucture Supporting harmonization of market solutions and standards - Fuel, interface, components, safety, follow-up 12 countries and 27 stakeholders represented 2014-08-28 BiMe Trucks & LNG BC 16

EU-directive: Deployment of alternative fuels Infrastructure Adopted in the European Parliament,15 April 2014 Densly populated areas by 2020 150 km between natural gas stations 400 km between LNG stations Member states have to develop national policy frameworks within 24 months from implementation (autumn 2016).
