2.0 Recommended Browser Settings PC users using Internet Explorer have a couple of browser settings to check. If you are a Mac user, the settings are already set. 2.1 Internet Explorer on a PC PC users must check some of their Internet Explorer browser s settings. The first step is to reset your browser settings to their default values. To do this, follow the steps below. Open up Internet Explorer. 1. Pull down the Tools menu at the top of the screen and choose: Internet Options 1 2. When the Internet Options window opens, click on the Advanced tab. 2 3. of the window. button toward the bottom 3 Student Administration System 3

7 7. If you no longer see your Menu Bar at the top of the page, you will likely find it on the far right side of the page. In that case, pull down the Tools menu, click on Toolbars and then Menu Bar. Doing so will put the Menu Bar back at the top of your Internet Explorer page. 8. Pull down the Tools menu at the top of the page again and choose: Internet Options. 9 10 8 The next step is to add to your Trusted Sites list. 9. Click on the Security tab. 10. Highlight, and then click on the Student Administration System 5

The following will display: 11. Enter the following: https://my.cwu.edu *.cwu.edu 11 12. in the Add this website to the zone field. button so that the site displays in the Websites window (the Trusted list). 12 13. If the checkbox for Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone is checked, uncheck it. 14. Then click the 13 14 15. Back in the Internet Options window, with Trusted Sites still highlighted, click the 16 17 15 18 19 16. In the window that appears, scroll down to the Downloads section. 17. Change the Automatic prompting for file downloads from Disable to Enable. 18. Ensure that the Reset to field at the bottom of the page says Medium. If it does not, use the dropdown menu to choose it. 19. Student Administration System 6

20. Back in the Internet Options window again, click the Privacy tab. 20 21. Make sure the Settings slider is set to Medium. If it is not, grab the slider and adjust it. 22. Make sure that the Turn on Pop-up Blocker checkbox is not checked. There are many pop-ups in the Administrative Systems. 2.2 Firefox on a PC or Mac If using Firefox, users must check some of their Firefox browser s settings. Please note that the screen shots in this section are for Firefox on a PC, but the information also applies to Firefox on the Mac. The first step is to add a site to your Trusted sites. To begin, open up Firefox. 1. Now choose Tools > Options on a PC. Firefox > Preferences on a Mac. 2. When the Firefox Options window opens, click on the Security tab. 3. Make sure the checkboxes indicated in the Firefox Options screen shot to the right are checked. 3 2 4 5 4. Privacy tab. 5. In the Firefox will dropdown field, make sure that Use custom settings for history is displaying. 6 7 6. Check the checkbox to Clear history when Firefox closes. 7. 8. Check all checkboxes to match the screen shot to the right. 9. 8 10 9 11 10. Back in the Firefox Options window again, click the Content tab. 12 11. Make sure that the Block pop-up windows checkbox is not checked. There are many pop-ups in the Administrative Systems. 2.3 Safari (Browser) on a Mac If using Safari on a Mac, users should check some of their Safari browser s settings. To begin, open up your Safari browser and choose Safari > Preferences. 1 1. When the Safari Preferences window opens, click on the Security tab. 2. Make sure your checkboxes match what is indicated in the Safari Preferences screen shot to the right. It is especially important that the Block pop-up windows checkbox is not checked. 2 3 3. Privacy tab. 4. Make sure the two radio buttons for Block cookies and Limit website access to location services are chosen as indicated in the screen shot to the right. 4 Student Administration System 10

3.0 All About the Cache 3.1 Internet Explorer on a PC: Which Version of I.E. Do I Have? To determine which version of Internet Explorer you have, first open up Internet Explorer. 1 1. From the menu bar, select: Help > About Internet Explorer. 2. Locate your Version number in the About Internet Explorer dialog box. The person in the screen shot to the right has Internet Explorer version 8.0. 3. Then click the 2 3 Refer to the appropriate section below for directions on clearing the cache. 3.2 Clearing the Cache: Internet Explorer 8, 9 or 10 (PC Users) Open up Internet Explorer. 1. From the menu bar, select: Tools > Internet Options. 2 1 2. When the Internet Options dialog box opens, click the button in the Browsing history section of the General tab. 6 3. When the Delete Browsing History dialog box opens, make sure that the checkboxes indicated in the screen shot to the right are checked. 4. In addition, ensure that the top checkbox, Preserve Favorites website data, is unchecked. 5. Then click the button, and wait for the deletion process to complete. 6. Back in the Internet Options dialog box, click. Your browser cache has now been completely cleared. 4 3 5 Student Administration System 12

3.3 Clearing the Cache: Internet Explorer 7 (PC Users) Open up Internet Explorer. 1. From the menu bar, select: Tools > Internet Options. 1 2. When the Internet Options dialog box opens, click. 3. When the Delete Browsing History dialog box opens, check the checkbox 2 4. This is the important option for clearing all browser cache in I.E. 7.0. Then click. 3 4 3.4 Firefox on a PC or Mac: Which Version of Firefox Do I Have? To determine which version of Firefox you have, first open up Firefox. From the menu bar On a PC, select Help > About Firefox. On a Mac, select Firefox > About Firefox. 1 1. Locate your Version number in the About Mozilla Firefox dialog box. 3.5 Clearing the Cache: Firefox (PC Only Not Necessary for Mac Users) If you are using the Firefox browser on a PC, from the menu bar, choose Tools > Clear Recent History. 1. When the dialog box opens, make sure that the Browsing & Download History, Cookies and Cache checkboxes are checked. It is up to you if you would like the other checkboxes to be checked. 2. Click. 1 2 3.6 Clearing the Cache: Safari (Mac Users) 1. If you are using the Safari browser, from the menu bar, choose Safari > Reset Safari. 2. When the Reset Safari dialog box opens, make sure all of the checkboxes are checked. 3. Click [Reset]. 4. In addition, choose Safari > Empty Cache (if available). When the dialog box opens, click [Empty]. Student Administration System 14
