SnapDx builds apps that help doctors provide the best possible care in the 10 min. they have to see a patient. Hisham previously founded plastic and bariatric surgery software maker, Pixineers Inc, and held product and software development positions at Amazon.com and Microsoft. He is also co-founder and chairman of Startup Calgary and a Systems Design Engineering graduate from the University of Waterloo. Susan joined the Ministry of Health in the Spring of 2008. Susan has been an executive leader in both public and private sector organizations in Canada with primary focus in health care and health information over the last 21 years. Susan currently serves as a Director on the national Board of Directors for COACH. Stafford Dean Senior Program Officer - Analytics, Alberta Health Services Topic: Panelist, "Analytics- The 'Big' in Big Data" Bio: Stafford has been using administrative and clinical data to support decision making for over 20 years in Alberta's Health system. He has worked at the Alberta Ministry of Health, the Calgary Health Region, the Health Quality Council of Alberta and now in his current role Senior Program Officer, Analytics. Analytics role is to enable decision making by providing timely relevant data and reporting services. Stafford research interests include health system demand forecasting and clinical analytics to support continuous quality improvement. Stafford's education includes a BSc in Actuarial Science, a Masters in Economics, and a PhD in Health Research. Jill De Grood Director, Ward of the 21st Century (W21C) Topic: Panelist- Stirring & Shaking: Innovation & Transformation in Alberta Healthcare & Beyond Bio: Jill de Grood completed her Masters degree in April 2009 through the Department of Sociology at the University of Calgary. Her thesis project examined factors impacting lawyer's physical and mental health. She has been in an evolving leadership role with W21C for over five years, with involvement in numerous industry partner projects in areas such as technology assessment, infection prevention and control, as well as examining the effectiveness of health care innovations and their impact on patient care. Jill is a published author with six journal publications along with two knowledge translation pieces. Jill is currently the Director of W21C, responsible for directing and facilitating the progression of W21C with respect to its vision, concept, implementation and evaluation. Jill hopes to continue to evolve the W21C program, building on the W21C's previous successes over the past ten years. Judy Murphy, RN, FACMI, FHIMSS, FAAN Chief Nursing Officer and Director-Global Business Services, IBM Healthcare, Washington D.C. Topic: Analytics at the Point of Care Bio: Judy Murphy is Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and Director-Global Business Services at IBM Healthcare. Prior to this she was CNO/Director-Office of Clinical Quality & Safety, and Deputy National Coordinator for Programs and Policy at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in Washington D.C. In both roles she served to advance the vision of using health IT to improve health care, lower costs, and promote consumers use of health IT for their own health. She has published and lectured nationally and internationally on these topics. Before working at the ONC, she had more than 25 years of health informatics experience at Aurora Health Care in Wisconsin. As VP-EHR Applications, she led their EHR program since 1995 and managed the organization s achievement of EHR Meaningful Use. She received the 2006 HIMSS Nursing Informatics Leadership Award. 4
Tim Murphy Vice President of Strategy for Patient Oriented Research (SPOR) & Provincial Platforms, Alberta Innovates Health Solutions (AIHS) Topic: Panelist, "Analytics- The 'Big' in Big Data" Bio: Tim has more than 20 years of senior executive leadership experience in the health care sector. He is the current Vice President of SPOR & Provincial Platforms and former Executive Director for Alberta's SPOR SUPPORT Unit. Prior to coming on board with AIHS, Tim established a consultant business with clients including the CHILD Foundation, the Institute for Health System Transformation and Sustainability, and Movember. Tim was the inaugural Senior Vice President at the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research in Vancouver, and has been a senior manager at both the Princess Margaret Hospital (1992-1997) and the British Columbia Cancer Agency (1997-2002). Tim holds a Bachelor of Science Degree, Life Sciences from Queen's University (1989); a Master's of Health Administration from the University of Toronto (1992); and, a Master's of Business Administration from Queen's University (2006). In 2007, he received his Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation. Andrew Neuner Chief Executive Officer, Health Quality Council of Alberta (HQCA) Topic: Closing Keynote Session- Measuring What Matters Bio: Mr. Neuner is an accomplished and visionary healthcare executive leader. He has more than 30 years of experience in healthcare, most recently with Interior Health in British Columbia, one of the largest health regions in Canada, where he is Vice President, Community Integration. In his outgoing role as Vice President, Community Integration at Interior Health, Mr. Neuner ensures that patients experience coordinated and continuous care among all community health services, including public health, community care, primary care, and mental health. He has an active interest in quality, safety and research which has led to his work on projects with the University of British Columbia, Canadian Institute of Health Research, BC Patient Safety Quality Council, and the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research. His work has ranged from examining changes in the health status if a community after the closure of a hospital, to developing a new research department with an ehealth and rural, primary care focus. He was previously Chief Operating Officer with Interior Health, and Chief Executive Officer of Cornwall Hospital in Ontario. Mr. Neuner holds a Master of Arts in Leadership & Training from Royal Roads University, a Master of Business Administration from the Canadian School of Management and Hawthorne University, and a Bachelor of Health Services Administration from the Canadian School of Management and King s College. 5
Dr. Jaggi Rao MD, FRCPC Founder, ConsultDERM Topic: Panelist, "Stirring & Shaking: Innovation & Transformation in Alberta Healthcare & Beyond" Bio: Dr. Jaggi Rao is a double board certified dermatologist (Canada and USA) and a certified cosmetic surgeon. He received a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree with highdistinction from the University of Toronto, followed by his Doctorate of Medicine (MD)from McMaster University. He then completed his 5-year specialty training in dermatology at the University of Alberta. This was followed by the completion of an accredited fellowship with the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery in Southern California. Dr. Rao is a full Clinical Professor of Medicine and served as the Program Director for the Dermatology Residency Training Program at the University of Alberta from 2009 to 2014. Clinically, Dr. Rao has been a practicing dermatologist for over 10 years, and is the founder of the Rao Dermatology Centre, a popular medical & cosmetic dermasurgery facility in the heart of Edmonton, Alberta. He has developed several innovative treatment protocols and techniques that have been adopted by other healthcare professionals. Dr. Rao is the creator and visionary behind ConsultDERM, Canada's largest teledermatology service, which uses modern technologies to allow healthcare providers gain timely access, regardless of distance or location, to dermatology assistance for patients with skin-related problems. Dr. Rao continues to volunteer with Doctors Without Borders (MSF) and the Canadian Physicians for Aid & Relief (CPAR). Dr. Verna Yiu Vice President Quality & Chief Medical Officer, Alberta Health Services Topic: Opening Keynote Bio: Prior to her current role with AHS, which commenced in August 2012, Dr. Yiu was the Interim Dean of the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta preceded by senior positions in the dean's office since 2000. Dr. Yiu is an alumnus of the University of Alberta (U of A) and Harvard University and is currently a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta. Since returning to the U of A in 1994 as a pediatric nephrologist, her leadership roles have spanned heading clinical programs to spearheading medical education reform. She has had 15 years of leading in areas of health administration, both within the health care delivery system and an academic setting. 6
