1 JOHN FLEMING - Chartered Director John started his career as a social worker but rapidly rose through the management ranks of local and provincial governments as well as not-for-profits achieving the most senior leadership positions in several organizations. After completing his full-time career he continued his leadership work by achieving the Chartered Director designation and opening his consulting practice aptly named with the insights and humour that John brings to all of his professional work Occasional Consulting. His practice is located in Oakville, Ontario. Since 2008 he has focused his work around governance advice, executive mentoring and coaching, program development and group facilitation, especially emphasizing his ability to help groups liaise effectively to identify and achieve common goals. More recently, he has been appointed Integrity Commissioner for the Town of Caledon. He has served on numerous boards and committees and just recently Chaired the Board of Directors of Halton Healthcare Services which governs the operations of three general hospitals and provides leadership during a critical time while a brand new Oakville Hospital is under construction. He also serves on the Board of OMERS Sponsors Corporation, one of two governing boards of one of Canada s largest pension plans. DEPUTY MINISTER, Six years as a Deputy Minister, in four different portfolios, with significant emphasis on change management. Deputy Ministers function as the chief executive officers of provincial ministries: large complex organizations with significant policy and operations responsibilities. Collectively, DM s managed the implementation of the dramatic change agenda launched during the 1990 s, in a highly collegial environment. THE CITY OF LONDON Appointed with a mandate to effect major change: the City was tripled in size by an Act of the legislature, and given new responsibilities by the same Act; needed a more dynamic organizational structure, a more empowered, performancerelated culture, and a strategic vision for the new City, for both its physical and community development. THE REGION OF HALTON Mandated to manage change in a period when dramatic growth was placing significant strain on Regional services. Worked with Council to develop an innovative long term strategy for the communities in the Region; to help Halton define a very active role in the newly emerging Greater Toronto Area, and led a rather traditional organization as it grew to achieve its full required potential. THE DISTRICT OF BURNABY, BRITISH COLUMBIA Took on a newly created role in a high performance organization, following a major restructuring, with responsibility for Public Health, Fire Services, Police (RCMP contract administration) as well as the administrative departments of the City. Served as the City s senior labour relations executive.
