Presentation 2 Overview of The Services Trades College capability Training and assessment options Brent Mills RTO Operations Manager

Who is The Service Trades College? We are an industry owned not for profit RTO based in Brisbane Queensland but we can enrol candidates nationally We specialise in training the fire protection industry One of our apprenticeships being the Cert III in Fire Protection Control The EAHL (Licence 6) skill set fall out of this apprenticeship

The Skill Set: UEENEEH161A Install fire detection and warning system apparatus UEENEEH162A Verity compliance & functionality of fire protection system Installations UEENEEH163A Enter & Verify programs for fire protection systems UEENEEH164A Commission large fire protection systems UEENEEH165A Troubleshoot fire protection systems

Experts working in the field of fire protection control should be able to demonstrate currency in at least some if not all of the units in the skills set!

Certificates of compliance State Licences Employer verification Statements of attainment Testimonials Employment portfolios Skills assessment How?

How it has worked in other areas TSTCA have conducted assessment of suitability in other EAHL licence classes through: Online assessment Self paced workbooks and theory assessment Practical demonstration Onsite assessment TSCTA s intention is not to make the task of recognising a persons suitability to transition to EAHL (Licence class 6) burdensome on the candidate

Who would be suitable to Transition? To be a suitable candidate you ideally should hold a statement of attainment in the following: UEENEEE102A Fabricate, assemble & dismantle utilities industry components UEENEEE105A Fix & secure electro-technology equipment UEENEEE107A Use drawings, diagrams, schedules, standards, codes & specifications OR

Other available options Hold a current unrestricted electrical licence issued in an Australian State or Territory. The Fire Protection Industry (ODS&SGG) Board deem that existing workers in the fire protection sector will have met the units of competency in the previous slide if they:

Other available options Hold the Australian Communications & Media Authorities restricted or open cabers registration and can demonstrate 3 years wiring and installation experience in the fire protection sector OR Hold the Australian Communications and Media Authority s open registration and can demonstrate 3 years wiring and installation experience in the security or communications sectors

How we the RTO intend on approaching the transition TSTCA aim to have 4 basic delivery options: 1. A training & assessment pathway, This would be for new participants who have limited relevant industry experience. These candidates would require training and assessment preferably in a controlled college environment.

Delivery options continued 2. Partial Recognition, In this pathway you may be able to provide experience in some of the skills set, but not all. Therefore recognition is given where possible and the gaps are met through training and assessment. This could be through self paced workbooks with a controlled assessment on completion, or through attending a training provider.

Delivery options continued 3. Knowledge and Skills Assessment: Here a candidate may be a EAHL (Licence class 6) and may therefore demonstrate theory and knowledge in practical and theory assessment tasks would be an experienced person and could demonstrate their skills and knowledge through practical and theory assessment tasks that would meet the training package parameters receiving a statement of attainment for the skills set.

Delivery options continued 4. Full Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) & Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) This would be open to EAHL (Licence class 6) candidates who are able to provide undisputable evidence of their experience in the skills set This means the evidence must be current, verifiable and quality There is no formal assessment or training required for candidates who can demonstrate competency under this format

It would be the view of TSTCA that the majority of candidates would be applying under options 3 & 4

RTO Partnerships The Service Trades College has begun to collaborate with other RTO s across Australia. By forming partnerships with organisations such as Fire Industry Training Victoria, Peer Veet South Australia and other providers in other states we can bring any needed training to the candidate. But TSTCA will remain your point of contact and we will endeavour to organise the process, keeping the candidate informed.

Communication The first step will be for you to make contact with the College. The preferable method will be through an email with all your contact details so as we can respond to your request, (Contact details will be on the final slide) It would be helpful at this stage to provide an indication of which transition option you wish to exercise. If you indicate you wish to exercise options 3 or 4 you will be sent a self assessment tool (If time permits I will give an overview)

Outcome Notification When the self assessment tool and evidence is returned it will be verified by an assessor You will be notified of the outcome by phone call or email Where there is a need for gap training or formal assessment you will be given the option to supply more evidence to close the gap or you may elect to under go formal training and assessment This training maybe theory based (which we endeavour to have online) OR Practical demonstration which could be onsite where possible or in an RTO Skills Centre

The Award The award will be given from The Service Trades College It will verify that the candidate is competent in the Skills Set under UEESS00058 Electronic-Fire Detection & Alarm Systems- Installation, Maintenance, Commissioning & Servicing and meets the requirements for licensing for EAHL (Licence class 6)
