Develop National and International academic links to raise the profile of Facilities Management as a profession within Irish Healthcare. Develop the FM function to a standard that will enable St James s Hospital to lead in this area in the context of Hospital groups. The FM Directorate at St James s Hospital provides the full range of non-clinical services in an integrated manner that will enhance the patients experience and support the hospital clinical staff in treating our Patients. Catering is a core component of the Directorate and we strive to provide excellence in food and service to the patients and staff of SJH.
REQUIREMENTS Candidates must have both of the following two criteria to be short-listed for interview. A recognised third level qualification in a catering-related discipline A minimum of 5 years experience in a relevant managerial position The following will be required for the position: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Strong organisational and time management skills High level of initiative Strong leadership and motivational skills, including the ability to build strong relationships with customer base, patient representatives, staff and management colleagues Financial, budgeting, and inventory management skills In-depth knowledge of food, food hygiene and food preparation in a patient-centric organisation. MAIN ROLE, DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES To be responsible and accountable for catering services throughout the hospital: the planning, organising, controlling and directing of the catering services with respect to hospital and statutory requirements, policies and standards. To drive change initiatives with the support of Senior Management. To be organised, detailed and patient focused in approach with the ability to manage a large team. Management Identify the objectives for the catering services in the hospital. Specify the management and supervisory responsibilities within the structure of the Catering Department. Maintain an appropriate management, administrative and supervisory structure. Ensure catering services produce and provide food that is of good quality, nutritious and well presented. Cater for cultural and ethnic dietary requirements where necessary. Exercise effective budgetary control and review the application of technology in the Catering Department. Update and compile new products and menus according to market availability, trends and customer needs. Ensure Hospital policies regarding recruitment of staff and employment conditions are fairly applied within the Catering Department. Actively plan for future catering needs in the department. Ensure the accuracy of information used to generate staff remuneration. Ensure that effective methods of control are established and maintained over all items of expenditure including purchasing, receiving, quality control, storing, stock control, contract services and staff costs. Prepare budgets and ensure adherence to same. Prepare the specifications for the purchasing of all goods required.
Ensure Hospital Standard Business Processes are adhered to at all times Maintain all appropriate records and generate reports when and where required. Work Practices and Policies Identify and document practices and methods to be used in the catering services. Liaise with user groups and meet their requirements whenever feasible. Ensure adherence to specifications, standards and procedures in the workplace. Ensure through supervision that all areas adhere to regulations and laws governing the food and catering establishments. Quality Standards and Measurements Identify and implement working standards for the Catering Department. Assess the selection of materials and ensure that acceptable standards are attained and maintained Devise formal systems and procedures for monitoring, auditing and feedback of service. Devise management information reports regarding cost and quality. Develop procedures for notifying and rectifying problems. Attend to customer complaints as satisfactorily as possible and ensure corrective action where necessary. Ensure compliance with all hygiene, cook-chill, health and safety procedures and regulations. Safety and Hygiene Report accidents, record relevant information and regularly review safe working methods. Ensure the maintenance and security of premises and equipment. Maintain and upgrade strict hygiene and sanitation practices and levels. Ensure and provide safe working environment for all staff. Equipment and Technology Develop inventory, maintenance and other records regarding equipment. Identify appropriate equipment and products for each task. Ensure equipment is well maintained, regularly monitored and faults reported. Be aware of modern developments in the catering industry and facilitate introduction and implementation of new technology and product. Time and Manpower Supervise, direct and control staff in the performance of their duties. Ensure duty rosters and rotas are maintained to meet service needs. Ensure staff compliance with hospital regulations and personnel policies. Resolve staff grievances by durable and ethical methods. Develop methods to assess staff time and other resources required to meet standards Devise optimum manpower plans for the service.
Recruitment and Training Organise and monitor attendance levels at induction programmes for new staff. Ensure the recruitment and selection of staff is conducted in a manner consistent with Hospital policy and relevant legislation. Monitor staff satisfaction, professional interpersonal relations and career development opportunities and take remedial action as required. Devise comprehensive on-going skills training programme for all staff. Devise appropriate management training for managers and supervisors. Ensure appropriate interpersonal relations and skills within department and related services. Regularly review job specifications for all positions. Develop and update departmental procedure manuals. Ensure own professional development in keeping with industry, educational and technical development. This Job Description will be subject to review in the light of changing circumstances. PARTICULARS OF OFFICE 1. The appointment to this post will be whole-time, permanent and pensionable. 2. Annual Leave allowance is 32 days. Please note that annual leave allowances may be amended in line with directives from the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform in accordance with the Standardisation of annual leave and related allowances in the public sector. 3. Normal working hours will be 36/37 per week 4. The person appointed must not give less than 3 months notice, in writing, of intention to resign. 5. You will be required to work the agreed roster / on call arrangements advised to you by your line manager. Your contracted hours of work are liable to change between the hours of 8.00am - 8pm over seven days to meet the requirements for extended day services in accordance with the terms of the Framework Agreement. HEALTH A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service. Fire order must be observed and staff must attend fire lectures periodically All accidents within the department must be reported immediately. In line with Safety Health and Welfare at Work Act 1989 all staff must comply withal safety regulations. The post holder has personal responsibility for Health and safety in the work place. In line with the Tobacco Regulation Act, 1990, smoking within the Hospital Buildings is not permitted.
