ADMISSION/ENTRY REQUIREMENTS The minimum admission requirement is a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with a minimum of 30 39% in the language of learning and teaching of the institution (in our case it is English) coupled with an achievement rating of 3, 40-49% or better in four recognised subjects. Life Orientation does not count. Subjects such as Hospitality, Design, Tourism and Computer Applications Technology are recognised. See Appendix: Group A and B Government Gazette 2009. (Refer to our Website for Namibian admission requirements) GENERAL INFORMATION The Diploma is provisionally registered with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) on the National Qualifications Framework as: Diploma in Information Technology Network Integration Specialist Duration: 2 Years NQF Level: 6 (Based on the NQF level 10 framework) Exit Level Credits: 245 SAQA Qualification ID no.: 60471 Overview of the Program ISS Certificate ( Internetwork Systems Specialist ) The first academic year serves as a platform for pursuing more advanced studies in networking technologies. It is the same as for the Certificate in Internetwork System Specialist. This qualification will equip students with relevant knowledge and practical skills concerning IT networks, security, internet and the latest computer hardware. The curriculum is based on international certifications for A (Computer Hardware and Operating systems), Wireless Networking (WiFi), Certified Cisco Network Administrator (CCNA) working with Routers & Switches, Linux Administration, VoIP (Voice over IP) and Basic Project Management. using Cisco technologies e.g. VPN s, VLAN s and Remote Administration. ITNIS Diploma ( Information Technology Network Integration Specialist) The 2nd year of study will show clients and employers that you can design, implement, and administer infrastructures for business solutions based on Microsoft Windows Server 2012 and other Windows server platforms. Implementation responsibilities include installing, configuring, and troubleshooting network systems. This curriculum also covers Active Directory, which helps organisations simplify IT management, strengthen security, extend interoperability of systems and software, and ultimately reduce costs. This qualification not only equips you to manage an organization s Active Directory but to plan strategically for its future network enhancements. They would be able to install and manage Microsoft networks using all available technologies for both LAN s and Wide Area Networks. Students will also be trained in the fundamentals of Cloud computing and the impact this will have on how IT infrastructure is managed. Students will be able to obtain the Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) qualification that maps to a variety of job roles including systems engineer, technical support engineer, system analyst, network analyst and technical consultant. These qualifications ensure the students ample practical experience and enough knowledge to venture into the IT job market with confidence. Our curriculum is based on the prescribed international Microsoft curriculum (training program). We use our own customised subject titles (with the Microsoft names in brackets). We also conduct our own assessments for awarding our qualifications registered with SAQA. Students desiring to be awarded with the Microsoft or CompTIA status of competence, e.g. MCSE and A must arrange and pay for such examinations by themselves. YEAR 1 SUBJECT 1: COMPUTER HARDWARE MANAGEMENT (NQF LEVEL 5) (COMPTIA: A) The student will be able to install and configure computer systems, perform computer systems diagnostics, troubleshooting, doing preventative maintenance and safety procedures, analyze the features and functions of the motherboard, processors, and memory components of the PC system and perform networking functions and printer set up. SUBJECT 2: OPERATING SYSTEMS (NQF LEVEL 5) (COMPTIA: A) The student will be able to explain the features and functions of a PC Operating System, install and configure PC software systems, describe the procedures for diagnosing software malfunctions and install PC networks and related functional components. The student will perform setup and install operations on the following platforms: Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows Server.

SUBJECT 3: VOICE OVER INTERNET PROTOCOL (NQF LEVEL 5) The student will have a working knowledge of the field standards and operational systems of VoIP, the deployment and installation of VoIP hardware and software systems, as well as the implementation and use of VoIP systems. As part of the practical preparation to VoIP systems they install and configure TrixBox (soft PBX) systems. SUBJECT 4: LINUX ADMINISTRATION (NQF LEVEL 5) (COMPTIA: A) The student will be able to correctly determine an appropriate Linux distribution, install a Linux Operating System, configure a file system, Internet protocol (IP) settings, perform basic scripting and fire walling. SUBJECT 5 : BASIC PROJECT MANAGEMENT (NQF LEVEL 5) (INTERNATIONAL: PMBOK) The student will be able to perform all necessary skills required as a junior project manager, setup a WBS, basic budgets, timelines, do basic risk analysis to start a project from scratch and hand in completed documentation of a project. This knowledge is an important building block to become ready for your employment as a Network Administrator. SUBJECT 6: ROUTER AND SWITCH CONFIGURATION (NQF LEVEL 5) (INTERNATIONAL: CISCO CCNA ) The student will be able to demonstrate understanding of the technologies of internet protocol (IP) networks, describe the designing of an internet protocol network, perform setting up of network operations and maintain network operations. They will be taught the basics in configuring Cisco routers and Cisco switches, in following the CCNA curriculum. SUBJECT 7: WIRELESS NETWORKING (NQF LEVEL 5) (INTERNATIONAL: CWNA) The student will have a working knowledge of the components of wireless networking such as link planning, setting up of wireless equipment, maintenance of signal strength in a wireless network and the procedures required to ensure wireless network security. The practical set up of a wireless LAN and connect wireless devices together as well as setup Bridges linking a WLAN to a LAN. This course follows the CWNA curriculum. YEAR 2 SUBJECT 1: IMPLEMENTING NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE (NQF LEVEL 6) (MS: INSTALLING & CONFIGURING MICROSOFT SERVER 2012) This course deals with the correct installation procedures for Server 2012 installation, Virtual disk creation and upgrades from previous Server operating systems. Close attention is paid to the setup of Hyper-V server and the creation of Virtual machines. Traditional elements such as file and print permissions, remote management of servers, IP addressing and security policies are addressed. Fundamental Active Directory concepts such as domain creation and user management are also covered. SUBJECT 2: WINDOWS SERVER ADMINISTRATION (NQF LEVEL 6) (MS: ADMINISTERING WINDOWS SERVER 2012) Topics covered include management and monitoring of Windows Server and virtual machines, audit policies, name resolution and remote access technologies such as VPN s and Direct Access. This course offers more advanced Active Directory features such as Group Policy management and permissions, as well as detailed data protection models. SUBJECT 3: SECURING SERVER SERVICES (NQF LEVEL 6) (MS: CONFIGURING ADVANCED WINDOWS SERVER 2012 SERVICES) This course will facilitate the student with the knowledge to validate advanced configuration and services tasks necessary to deploy, manage and maintain a Windows Server 2012 infrastructure, such as identity management, network load balancing, clustering, migration of virtual machines, advanced storage technologies, Active Directory forests and trusts, certificate services and replication methods among others.

SUBJECT 4: EMAIL SERVER MANAGEMENT (NQF LEVEL 6) (MS: CONFIGURING MICROSOFT EXCHANGE SERVER 2010) The student will be able to set up a mail server, manage user requirements, configure clients; set up users; manage data storage & hardware resources. SUBJECT 5: THREAT MANAGEMENT GATEWAY (NQF LEVEL 6) (MS: MICROSOFT FOREFRONT THREAT MANAGEMENT GATEWAY) Students will be able to install & plan security of TMG server; install TMG clients and configure TMG as proxy & firewall product. SUBJECT 6: DESIGNING SERVER INFRASTRUCTURE (NQF LEVEL 6) (MS: DESIGNING AND IMPLEMENTING A SERVER INFRASTRUCTURE) The student will gain knowledge and understanding of the processes required for the successful design and implementation of server infrastructure. Topics such as server placement, protocol selection and branch office considerations, as well as the planning and design of Active Directory features, including both the physical and logical aspects of the Active Directory structure. SUBJECT 7: ADVANCED SERVER DEPLOYMENT (NQF LEVEL 6) (MS: IMPLEMENTING AND ADVANCED SERVER INFRASTRUCTURE) This course focuses on the design and implementation of advanced server features, in particular the workings of Hyper-V virtualization and Windows System Centre virtual management. Advanced high availability topics are covered such as clustering and load balancing and in-depth knowledge of an effective certificate services infrastructure. SUBJECT 8: DATABASE SERVER ADMINISTRATION (NQF LEVEL 6) (MS: CONFIGURING AND ADMINISTERING A DATABASE SERVER MS SQL (70-432) In this subject the student will develop knowledge of how to install and configure SQL Server, a vital component that holds all information about the databases within your network. This knowledge is an important building block to become ready for your employment as a Network Administrator to manage and control the use of data within your organisation. SUBJECT 9: PRIVATE CLOUD IMPLEMENTATION (NQF LEVEL 6) (MS: CONFIGURING & DEPLOYING A PRIVATE CLOUD WITH SYSTEM CENTER 2012) Students will be able to Install and configure a Private Cloud Solution (System Center 2012). Design, configure, and deploy a Private Cloud using the appropriate technologies, including but not limited to, storage requirements, the network infrastructure, security concerns, deploy virtual machines with software packages, user profiles and cloud configuration SUBJECT 10: WORK-BASED LEARNING(NQF LEVEL 6) Work-based learning (also called internship or professional practicum) happens in your final year of study. It involves learning through placement at a company for the purpose of gaining hands-on experience through executing actual tasks and assignments (e.g. desktop support, supporting the network administrator or network assistant). Work-based learning is structured around a clear purpose, performance (outcome) targets and procedures in collaboration with the employer and lecturer(s) concerned. It provides students with an opportunity to acquire first-hand experience of the world of work in the industry concerned. Students should acquire an in-depth knowledge of workplace practices as well as a broad knowledge and understanding of how the host organisation operates. They should develop competencies that are impossible or highly unlikely in the classroom environment, for instance the ability to deal with challenges and problems within context of the workplace itself. They will also develop the ability to integrate knowledge and skills across all program subjects practical level.
