Global Inter-Cloud Technology Forum (GICTF) 12/06/2010 NTT DATA Agilenet L.L.C. Kenji Motohashi
Agenda 1. What is the GICTF 2. GICTF s Past Cloud Activities 3. GICTF's Current and Future Cloud Plans 4. Opportunities for collaboration with other groups 1
What is the GICTF (1/2) Global l Inter-Cloud Technology Forum Established on July 17 th 2009 Promotes the global standardization of inter-cloud system interfaces through collaboration between academia, government, industry. Cloud System A (C) Provisioning, monitoring and control across multiple clouds Cloud System B Provisioning Provisioning Legacy System E-Gov Finance Medical CDN Application Server Storage Monitor and Contro ol (A) Inter-cloud interworking architecture and standard d interfaces Monitor and Contro ol CDN Finance e-gov Medical (B) SLA assurance a for totality of server, storage and NW Network 2
What is the GICTF (2/2) Objectives: Making alliance between industry, government and academia Promoting open inter-cloud-system linkage interface Liaison i between Japanese and related overseas bodies leads to broad use Members: 70 companies, 3 bodies, influential individuals (university professors etc.), MIC as observer * NTT, KDDI, NEC, Hitachi, Fujitsu, IBM, Oracle, Cisco, IIJ, BIGLOBE, VMWare, NICT, NII, etc. Activities: Gathering information on secure inter-cloud system technology applicable to e-government system Standardization of inter-cloud-system linkage interface Compiling white papers on inter-cloud use case and functional requirements Promotions (presentations, seminars) Government ministries involved (MIC, Smart Cloud Study Group, etc.) (related overseas bodies etc.) OGF, OMG, SNIA, DMTF, CCIF, OCC, CSA, OASIS, ETSI, NIST, etc. Public comment Proposals of techniques ASP/SaaS data center Application Service Provider Industry Consortium (ASPIC) Information exchange Policies GICTF Information exchange Proposal of the results, liaisoni Standardization bodies etc. Proposal of results Reporting of study results Related Japanese bodies etc. New Generation Network Promotion Forum (NWGN), etc. Domestic/international academy, symposium, workshop, study group, etc. 3
GICTF s Past Cloud Activities Inter-cloud federation use cases QoS and SLA to be considered in intercloud federation 1. Scale-out through cloud federation (cloud bursting) 2. Mutual backup and recovery from a disaster through cloud federation 3. Porting of services to other cloud providers 4. Service interworking through the simultaneous use of multiple clouds etc. 1. QoS and SLA items to be guaranteed end-to-end (totality of server, storage and network) 2. Security requirements - requirements for cloud systems (data confidentiality, placement of data, tracking and monitoring illegal actions, measures against DDoS / malware etc.) -requirements that involve coordination between the cloud and terminals, etc. GICTF White Paper [Contents] Use U cases of finter-cloud computing Procedures in use cases of inter-cloud computing Functional requirements for inter-cloud computing Functional F l structure t and interfaces of cloud systems in inter-cloud computing 4
GICTF's Current and Future Cloud Plans Operator Cloud A C: Inter-cloud service monitoring and audit Centralized monitoring and auditing of services across clouds Mutual disaster detection mechanism Overload D: Inter-cloud resource discovery and reservation Dynamic discovering, reserving or leasing resources Policy coordination Reserved Data AP Middle Cloud B End user VPN Data APL Middle E: Inter-cloud service setup Dynamic network configuration (VPN setting, reroute end user access) Reallocating applications and data G: Interworking between clouds and the network Routing optimization based on monitoring the traffic of each cloud service Effective power saving of networking equipments F: Inter-cloud authentication Tenant / end-user authentication Exchange end user attribute information 5
