2 History ISO/IEC JTC 1/SWG 5 (2013 ~ ) In JTC 1 Plenary 2014, Special Working on IoT (SWG 5) proposed to establish a subcommittee of IoT as a result of two-year activities JTC 1 Plenary 2014 approved to establish WG on IoT (WG 10) ISO/IEC JTC 1/WG 10 (2015 ~ ) WG 10 had its 1 st meeting in Berlin, January WG 10 has a capability for systems integration (similar with systems approach in IEC) 2

3 ToR of WG 10 Serve as a focus of and proponent for JTC 1 s IoT standardization program Develop foundational standards for IoT related to JTC 1 for guiding IoT efforts throughout JTC 1 upon which other standards can be developed The work will cover: Developing Terms and Definitions for JTC 1 IoT Vocabulary Developing IoT Reference Architecture and other foundational specifications as JTC 1 standards Continuing the work begun in SWG on IoT on standardization gaps Establishing a liaison with JTC 1, ISO, IEC or other committees or working groups undertaking work related to IoT Encouraging the prompt and efficient exchange of information within JTC 1 and with ISO, IEC, or other committees or working groups working on IoT, as appropriate Monitoring the ongoing IoT regulatory, market, business and technology requirements Developing other IoT standards that build on the foundational standards when relevant JTC 1 subgr oups that could address these standards do not exist or are unable to develop them 3

15 ISO/IEC Internet of Things Reference Architecture (IoT RA) ISO/IEC serves the following goals to describe the characteristics and aspect of IoT systems; to define the IoT domains; to describe the reference model of IoT systems; and to describe interoperability of IoT entities. ISO/IEC supports the following important standardization objectives to enable the production of a coherent set of international standards for IoT; to provide a technology-neutral reference point for defining standards for IoT; and to encourage openness and transparency in the identification of IoT benefits and risks. 15

16 ISO/IEC Internet of Things Reference Architecture (IoT RA) ISO/IEC is also intended to facilitate the understanding of the operational intricacies of IoT systems; illustrate and provide understanding of IoT architectures from different architectural views; provide a technical reference to enable the international community to understand, discuss, categorize and compare IoT systems; facilitate the analysis of candidate use cases/applications including data/information flows; and facilitate the analysis of potential standards in areas including potential interface parameters, e.g., functionality, performance requirements, security/level of assurance (LoA), Quality of Services (QoS), etc. 16
