The Nature & Purpose of Graduate Study The goal of graduate study at NEU Faculty of Pharmacy is to develop the intellectual breadth and specialized training necessary for a career in teaching, research or advanced professional practice. Emphasis is placed on the knowledge, methods and skills needed for scholarly teaching, original research and problem solving, intellectual leadership, creative expression and professional prominence and recognition. Graduate work generally is identified with a particular discipline but may be broader in scope, involving courses and research in several disciplines. The candidate for an advanced degree presents work conducted in a chosen major area, but it also is expected that he or she will have completed supporting work at an upper-division or graduate-level in one or more relevant areas. The three components of graduate study are didactic coursework, independent study and scholarly research leading to a thesis or dissertation. The proportion of each type of study may vary according to the previous training of the individual student and the nature of the major discipline. Ph.D. students have the option of teaching, but this in not a required part of the program. Students are trained to develop a research project of their own creation, under the supervision of faculty at the Near East University, Faculty of Pharmacy.The program provides students with a group of supportive, helpful and spirited colleagues who enjoy their work and each other. Ph.D. students graduate, on average, less than 4 years of training under the program, and go on to highly competitive post-graduate positions in universities, industry or government agencies. BIOCHEMISTRY The interdisciplinary science of biochemistry study the chemical composition of living things at a molecular level, as well as the chemical reactions that regulate life. The Department is especially strong in research with investigators of international standing in a wide range of disciplines including molecular biology, cell signalling and genetics, metabolism. A vigorous group of scientists and trainees dedicated to the expansion and transmission of knowledge about the biological world. Our particular focus is the characterization of macromolecules and biological processes at the molecular level. Research groups in the department address the structure of biological macromolecules, the mechanisms by which they function, and the possible applications to research technology and to medicine. PHARMACEUTICAL TECHNOLOGY Mission The objective of the Graduate Program in Pharmaceutical Technology is to provide Ph. D. education of excellent quality to students with high academic, scholarship and leadership potential and to help them become the leaders of the pharmaceutical companies, academic and research institutions worldwide to extend the frontiers of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Vision The vision of the Graduate Program in Pharmaceutical Technology is to become internationally recognized center of excellence through innovative teaching, training, and research in order to meet the needs of pharmaceutical industry worldwide for providing effective solutions to changing and challenging the pharmaceutical product development. Research The PhD candidates in our program are able to conduct research in the center of excellence using the cutting edge technologies under the guidance of renowned scientist in the area of tableting. The Quality-by-Design approach is always in mind for the PhD projects. Students are encouraged to use artificial intelligence as well as a state-of-the-art compaction simulator in addition to all other relevant equipment for pharmaceutical processing so that they can be in demand after completing their tudies. PHARMACOLOGY Pharmacology is the study of the effects of drugs and chemicals on living organisms. The objective of the Ph.D degree in Pharmacology is to have students possess a comprehensive understanding of the general field of pharmacology, in addition to specific expertise in their particular area of interest. Our curriculum provides that each student has an understanding of the core knowledge in pharmacology and related physiology, including molecular, cellular and integrated understanding of pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics and spesific areas in pharmacology such as pharmacogenetics, pharmacovigilance, chronopharmacology,, pharmacoepidemiology, drug utilization, rational drug use and drug interactions. TOXICOLOGY NEU Toxicology PhD Program provides graduate doctoral training in the environmental health sciences and toxicology. Our mission is to educate and train the next generation of talented, independent toxicologists and environmental health scientists who are able to conduct innovative research and transform their research findings into information, resources, and tools that will be used by public health and medical professionals, as well as the public, to improve overall human health and well-being. This program is housed within the NEU Faculty of Pharmacy, but our focus is multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary. Our program will offer to our graduates having significant leadership positions in academia, government, industry and other occupations related to toxicology, environmental health and public policy, and are making important contributions to research and education in these fields. Trainees are able to work with a team of dedicated faculty, who are internationally recognized and deeply committed to education and mentoring students and postdoctoral fellows. Faculty research programs span the entire spectrum of toxicology, from molecular mechanisms and cellular processes to whole organisms and human populations. Toxicology PhD program is suitable for the candidates having toxicology master degree or graduated from the faculty of medicine, faculty of veterinary medicine, faculty of dentistry or faculty of pharmacy. Enrollment to courses for Toxicology PhD programme may be in Turkish (with satisfactory English knowledge to native Turkish speakers) or in English language for foreigners.
CLINICAL PHARMACY Bridging the gaps in patient care, Clinical Pharmacy course provides the opportunity for pharmacists to develop professional practice as clinical practitioners involved in making decisions about patient care. PHARMACOECONOMY and PHARMACOEPIDEMIOLOGY Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics are research fields that adres the effects of medication use in population. Pharmacoepidemiology emphasizes effects on health and well-being of a population, and pharmacoeconomics emphasizes effects on health care costs in a population. A PhD degree in pharmacoeconomics and pharmacoepidemiology provides students with the knowledge and skill set needed to actively participate in studies that describe the cost, utilization, and economic efficiency of pharmaceutical products, medical devices and related services in the delivery of health care and the development and application of health care policy.
