Symantec Backup Exec.cloud Product Overview Symantec Backup Exec.cloud helps small businesses address incomplete or infrequent backups by providing a simple, secure online backup and recovery service from the world s preferred provider of data protection solutions. The service protects critical data by automatically streaming it, encrypted to Symantec s secure, off-site data centers. By using a centrally managed, web-based console, administrators can deploy, monitor and manage clients on Windows-based desktops and servers. Transfer drives for data restore Helps you recover large data volumes faster than download restores alone. Product Licensing Overview 1. Symantec Backup Exec.cloud uses a subscription-based model that is licensed by the amount of storage required by the customer. 2. Storage can be purchased in 10 Gigabyte (GB) increments and consumption is measured by the amount of data in the customer's front end capacity. 3. Subscriptions are billed annually and terms are available in 1, 2 or 3 year periods. Refunds will not be offered upon early cancellation of the service commitment term. 4. For customers unsure of their requirements, storage amounts can be estimated by assuming a 10 GB capacity per each protected laptop, and 200 GB of capacity per protected server. (These estimates should only be used as a guide and may not apply to all customers). 5. If a customer exceeds the capacity of storage in their subscription, the customer will be notified of the situation through alerts in the online console, and will have the opportunity to purchase additional capacity. 1
Guidance on storage for larger deployments Once a storage volume exceeds 100 units, it grows into a Terabyte of data. However, a Terabyte of data is not equal to 1000 GB exactly. The chart below is provided as reference to help you determine in GB the amount of volume required by Terabytes of data. 1 TB 1024 GB 2 TB 2048 GB 3 TB 3072 GB 4 TB 4096 GB 5 TB 5120 GB Licensing Programs Two licensing programs are available to registered Symantec partners. Both renewal programs use the same End User terms of use, which specify continuous service and imply automatic subscription renewals absent cancellation or termination for non-payment. Auto-renew subscription* The customer signs up for a selected service term, including service auto-renewal, and absent renewal cancellation, the channel and customer are automatically billed for the service upon the renewal date. This is commonly referred to as an 'evergreen' model. Unless the customer specifically opts out before the end of each service term, the service will continue to be renewed in annual (1 year) increments. Unless otherwise agreed with Symantec, the customer's storage amount (capacity) under contract at the end of the term (including any additional storage added during the year) will be the amount of storage carried over into the renewal. *Please note: Auto-renew SKUs are only available with select distributors that support them. Please consult your distributor to determine if they offer this capability Annual (confirm renew) subscription The customer signs up for a selected service term, including service auto-renewal. As the service period winds down, Customer is reminded in advance of the renewal opportunity and may opt out or renew. However, if the customer fails to opt out, the channel and customer are not automatically billed for the service upon the renewal date. Instead, the customer's renewal order must be received on a timely basis to confirm renewal, otherwise the service will be discontinued. This model most closely matches existing on-premise software/support renewals today. Getting the Service for Internal Use Symantec Backup Exec.cloud is available through the Internal Use Program to eligible partners in the Symantec Partner Program (SPP). Metallic level partners (Silver, Silver Corporate Reseller, Gold, Platinum, Platinum Corporate Reseller) and SMB, Enterprise Security & Data Protection Specialists can order these 12 month cloud services at no charge for in-house use or customer demonstrations. Registered level partners are also eligible to order with a valid Specialization. This Partner benefit is available where Backup Exec.cloud is licensed and sold and includes 250 GB of storage along with full support. Resellers submit orders to their distribution partner. 2. The distributor then extracts the Backup Exec.cloud orders and creates an EDI feed to Symantec. 3. Symantec performs order processing and moves the EDI order through various validations, holds, and checks (customer business operations (CBO), trade compliance, revenue recognition, account receivables, etc.). 4. Once all holds have been released and validations are complete, the order is booked and transmitted to the provisioning system, where it is automatically provisioned by Symantec. 5. The entitlement certificate is sent (by email) to the end-customer which contains the links, serial numbers and instructions that are needed to register the service. 6. Once registration is complete, the customer can begin installing agents and start using the service! NOTE: To properly provision the service, it is critical that the end user s contact and email address is provided not the reseller s. All subsequent Get More orders will reference this same end user info. Ordering additional storage ( Get more orders) When a customer requires additional quantity or capacity, a Get More order can be used to link the products together for co-termination and renewal with the initial order. 1. Resellers submit the order to their distribution partner 3
2. The order should include: the number of months for the subscription, the original purchase order number, and pricing using proration guidance from the distributor. The customer email address in the original order must also be used. 3. If additional information is required, the distributor will be contacted by Symantec Customer Business Operations through email (osg.amer.rma@symantec.com). 4. The Symantec customer business operations team validates pricing prior to booking the order. 5. Once the order is booked and all holds are released, an email is sent to Symantec order services to confirm the order completion and the additional quantity is made available to the customer. Please note: For EDI partners utilizing the EDIFACT standard in EMEA this will entail sending the Get More details in the FTX segment of the EDI message The original Purchase Order number can be seen in the standard Reseller and the Distributor reports offered via Partner Net. Note that the Express SAN or agreement number is not being used to link a Get More order to the existing service Product correspondence (customer welcome letter and entitlement certificate) are sent directly to the customer and not the partner. Support and Maintenance 24x7 support for Symantec Backup Exec.cloud is included in the term subscription. All regular maintenance, service enhancements and updates are also included in the cost of the subscription. Transfer Drives for Data Restore Transfer Drives are requested using the portal when configuring a data restore. Entitlements, Upgrades, and Migration Paths Because Backup Exec.cloud is a new product and does not replace an existing product, there are no upgrade or migration entitlements. There are no EOL updates or mappings with the introduction of Backup Exec.cloud. 7
