It is a great privilege for us to lead this Flemish and Dutch economic mission to Texas, with participants from both multinationals and small and mediumsized enterprises. Together these companies represent the best we have to offer in the oil, gas and chemical industries and in the field of smart grid technology and port development. Mark Rutte Prime Minister of the Netherlands The decision by Flanders and the Netherlands to join forces on an economic mission was a unique yet logical one. Take one look at Europe on a map of the world, and you ll see why. As neighbours, we share not only a language, history and culture but also an economic infrastructure. The Flemish-Dutch delta is the main gateway to Europe, with a strongly integrated transnational cluster of seaports; entrance points for liquefied natural gas and chemical and petrochemical plants stretching from Rotterdam, Antwerp, Zeebrugge and Ghent via the Limburg provinces to the Ruhr region of Germany. We have excellent transport connections with the rest of Europe by air, over land and inland waterways, and underground via an extensive pipeline network. Kris Peeters Minister-President of Flanders The decision to come to Texas was also a logical one. There are strong ties between the oil, gas, chemical and petrochemical clusters in and around Rotterdam, Antwerp and Houston. This makes the Lone Star State a key economic partner for both Flanders and the Netherlands. Our partnership has already created tens of thousands of jobs, and we have a wealth of opportunities to strengthen these ties and boost employment even more in our respective regions. Dutch and Flemish companies are global leaders in logistics and port development, whereas in Texas, major advances are being made in sustainable energy and smart grid technology. This indeed creates great and profound new opportunities that we should seize on together. Melanie Schultz van Haegen Minister of Infrastructure and the Environment That is why we have come to Texas; to strengthen existing ties, forge new contacts, open up new opportunities and do business. We would like to wish all Texan, Flemish and Dutch businesses involved in this mission a highly productive and successful collaboration. Jouke Eikelboom Managing Director ENCS creates and brings together knowledge and resources to secure European critical infrastructure. The mission is to raise the cyber security bar for utility operators. ENCS provides the network, knowledge and resources to stay ahead in cyber security developments. ENCS is a not-for-profit independent cooperative association, established by Alliander, KPN, TNO, DNV-Kema and the Radboud University. ENCS initially focusses on Smart Grid and Industrial Control Systems cyber security. The cyber security testing looks at security of the entire network and network parts, in stead of single components (end to end cyber security testing). The Education and Training program creates awareness and provides practical training for managers, operators and engineers. ENCS helps utility operators and industry with cyber security requirements for new systems and performs assessments on existing systems. Rethinking how we get from point A to point B means applying new technology and new policies to old assumptions and habits. For example, seeing a city s traffic in a consolidated, real-time view can help anticipate problems, alleviate congestion and decrease emergency-response times. IBM Intelligent Transportation, enables advanced analysis of the many factors that make up traffic flow, and gives planners and responders a comprehensive look at the state of their city s transportation assets on ground level. Erik-Mark Huitema Global director for Smarter transportation Our physical transportation systems are already instrumented with sensors, meters, appliances, cameras, smart phones, biometric devices giving us the ability to measure, sense and see the exact condition of everything. Instrumentation is about sensing what is happening right now, whether it is the temperature of a train wheel bearing, the location of a misplaced suitcase, metal fatigue in a bridge, the location of a ship at the docks. At the same time, sophisticated analytic systems can detect patterns and relationships and enable continuous decision making in near-real time. MH Hydraulics is under new ownership since January 2012. Based in the Netherlands, in Spijkenisse-Rotterdam since 1973. We changed the name from Morssinkhof to MH Hydraulics with a vision to capture worldwide markets and expand the brand even further. For the last 40 years Morssinkhof was selling Hydraulic spare-parts for pumps and motors from their Spijkenisse- Rotterdam offices to over 64 countries. Jaap Willem Vaandrager President When Mr. Morssinkhof started his hydraulic repairs, he quickly found out that it was, in many cases, extremely difficult to find hydraulic spares fast. He decided to start manufacturing the missing parts. We now stock over 80% original parts and the remainder is manufactured and designed in The Netherlands. Instead of replacing old pumps with new ones we have the spares. A new life for an old pump and you do not need any modifications to your equipment, less down time and a greener world. We launched the idea to create a database with all the drawings, exploded views and the App as a tool. No more part-numbers, only pump identification and click away to your desired parts, see the price, stock position and order. If it is for loose parts, kits or complete units, easier ordering cannot be done. Less than a minute on your I-pad, job done. For now we have 20.000 part-lists and over 1.9 million click points and of course growing as you read this. To make sure that we have the right parts and service advise close to you, we opened our own companies in USA, UAE, Singapore and with our European HO in The Netherlands we will be able to answer your call almost 24-7. The Middle East time line is even open on Saturdays and Sundays. With this service, we aim to be a true global company. The Energy market today is exciting. Different sources of energy, deriving from wind, water, nuclear power, gas and coal contribute to the complexity and diversity of the market. Demand in energy is increasing and through the multiple sources available create real challenges which Grid operators face on a day-to-day basis. Through our Network Operatings Center (NOC) we are able to monitor Energy Under our Control and bring balance to the grid during periods where demand and supply are not at par on a real time platform assuring just in time delivery. We achieve this through energy peak shaving and high load ejection by means of the gateways at a consumer and business level within our network. Marthin Henken CEO PowerNOC Energy Management BV markets home automation products at both a consumer and business level. These products consist of a gateway, plugs and other common devices and attributes operating on Z-wave technology offering a user a wireless environment to capture electricity usage and energy behavior patterns. Through the use of home automation the user can create a more efficient environment therefore cutting costs on their utility bill. PowerNOC Energy Management BV is also developing further software specifically looking at smart meters to capture total electricity usage per household / business and through algorithms calculate and publish electricity consumption on a per-appliance basis without the need for sub-metering or additional plugs. PowerNOC Energy Management BV is currently undertaking preliminary phase pilot testing to a general population of 1,000 users in combination with grid and utility company s in The Netherlands. Post pilot, PowerNOC Energy Management BV will populate 11,000 users ultimo December 2013, and a further 148,500 users in 2014 with home automation averaging a total managed energy network of approximately 50 megawatt ultimo 2014 in the Netherlands alone. Smart grids, intensive re-use of resources, a bio-based economy, all these developments require new and better sustainable technologies, as well as a change in mindset. That s why VITO is working hard on sustainability and transition thinking as binding factors between the five research programs. VITO supplies innovative and high-quality solutions, whereby large and small companies can gain a competitive advantage, and advises industry and governments on determining their policy for the future. VITO has more than 700 highly-qualified employees from various specialisms and collaborates with sector federations and their research centers, universities and other European research institutes. In 2012, VITO had a total budget of almost 126 million Euros, of which the contract research contribution amounted to 92 million Euros. Dick Gilhuis Chief Commercial Officer Francesco Faes Commercieel manager Zeeland Seaports Ports of Vlissingen and Terneuzen One of the key advantages of Zeeland Seaports, the ports of Vlissingen and Terneuzen, is a strategic location on the estuary of the Western Scheldt between some of the main economic centres of north-west Europe and the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp. Zeeland Seaports is dedicated to its modern-day role as a European hub for cargo handling and logistics. The two ports are eminently qualified for this role thanks to their unique geographical location, free access to the open sea and a first-rate network of road, rail, pipelines and waterway links to the hinterland of Europe. Even the largest seagoing vessels are able to call Zeeland Seaports with a minimum of deviation from main shipping routes and without tidal restrictions. In addition, the ports handle a wide range of shortsea and inland vessels providing a comprehensive network of cargo services right across Europe. Flexibility, speed, quality and customerfriendliness are other reasons for more and more companies to choose Zeeland Seaports as the strongest link to Europe. With plenty of space for development and with new business projects springing up all the time, Zeeland Seaports has ample opportunity for future growth. Zeeland Seaports and its experienced staff look forward to helping customers develop and grow their business. Zeeland Seaports has various dedicated terminals for handling specific goods: general cargo, breakbulk, containers; forest products; food and agriculture products; roll-on, roll-off; dry and liquid bulk Zeeland Seaports PO Box 132 NL-4530 AC Terneuzen T: + 31 115 647 400 www.zeelandseaports.com 103
