2 Introduction BAM and Van Oord have teamed up to design, manufacture and install reinforced concrete gravity base foundations (GBFs) for the offshore wind industry. The concept for the GBF has been developed from BAM and Van Oord s wide experience in designing and constructing immersed tube tunnels and gravity base structures. The basic GBF solution has been specifically designed for deep water applications and has undergone model testing. It is adaptable to suit a range of water depths, wave heights and seabed conditions. 2

4 Design We have undertaken structural and geotechnical design, environmental load calculations and simulation, floating stability and model testing for our GBF solution. 4

5 Design We have carried out scour tests in conjunction with the Dutch research institute Deltares. Our conceptual design has been certified by DNV, qualifying it as an optimised and cost-effective design. 5

6 Fabrication GBFs are designed to be mass-produced onshore in a quayside construction yard. We have optimised the manufacturing process by using BIM (Building Information Modeling), using prefabrication and utilising proven technologies. 6

7 Mammoet We have strengthened our team by partnering with Mammoet for their expertise in heavy lift solutions. They will undertake transport and load-out of the GBFs, handling of the shafts, and moving the foundations into deeper water with a semi-submersible barge. 7

8 Installation The barge is submerged and the GBF is floated off. It is then towed to the deployment site using standard, oceangoing tugs. 8

9 Installation A trailing suction hopper dredger prepares an excavation into which gravel is placed using a flexible fall pipe vessel. 9

10 Installation Positioned between four anchored tugs, an offshore support vessel will fill the GBF with water. The GBF is lowered onto the pre-installed gravel bed and then filled with sand. 10
