International Internship Experience IAESTE United States international interns will experience: paid science and technical practical training in their field of study, valuable work experience in an international setting, improved marketability in today s competitive global economy, and opportunities to network with leaders of top technical companies and like-minded students from around the world. Paid positions are available in industry, research institutes and universities, consulting firms, labs, and other work environments. Most placements are for 8-12 weeks during the summer, but fall and longer-term placements are also available. To become an IAESTE United States intern, you must be: a member of IAESTE United States, a full-time student, at junior-level standing or above by the time you begin your internship, and fluent in the English language (U.S. citizenship is not required). IAESTE United States Short-term Program Experiences INNOVATE (March 2008) Spend five days each in Singapore and Vietnam examining the relationship between technology, globalization, and leadership in the contemporary marketplace. Application deadline: November 2007 Earthquake Engineering in Turkey (March 2008) While in Istanbul, investigate designing and building inside an earthquake zone, including considerations necessary for restoration and development of ancient ruins as a major contributor to a national tourist infrastructure. Application deadline: November 9, 2007 East Meets West: Biotechnology and Public Policy in Hong Kong (May 2008) Experience the intersection of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Western technology while in Hong Kong and Guilin, China. The program will also explore the impact of public policy on biotechnology. Application deadline: January 11, 2008 KAIZEN in Japan: Women as Global Leaders (May June 2008) Explore the challenges facing women in engineering while gaining insights into Japanese industries approach to lean manufacturing and total quality management. Application deadline: January 11, 2008 With IAESTE United States short-term programs: learn about a specific science or technology issue in a global setting, fit an intensive experience abroad into your academic schedule, and potentially earn academic credit toward your degree. IMPACT: Advancing Women in Technology (June 2 August 10, 2008) Women students, discover the importance of a career in technology through internships with non-governmental agencies involved with economic development in Ireland and a mentorship from an upper-class female engineering student back home. Application deadline: February 1, 2008 EMPOWER: Engineering for a Sustainable Future (June 26 July 6, 2008) While experiencing Sao Paulo, Fortaleza, and Iguaçu Falls, explore Brazil s clean power research, including wind and hydroelectric power sources.
