UNIVERSITY OF PARDUBICE The University Pardubice has been extending a more than sixty year long tradition higher education in the City Pardubice. The Chemical College, later known for 40 years as the Institute Chemical Technology, was founded in Pardubice in 1950 to answer the needs the East Bohemia region that had a highly developed chemical industry, yet lacked pressionally trained specialists in this field. After the year 1990, the character the Institute changed. New faculties were founded fering a wide range study programs, not only chemistry-related. Since 1994, the new name the University Pardubice has been used. The University Pardubice is now one the 26 public higher education institutions in the Czech Republic, and the only university in the Pardubice region. As far as the number students is concerned, the University, with its 10,5 thousand students, belongs to the middle-sized universities in the Czech Republic. The University consists seven faculties: Faculty Chemical Technology, Faculty Economics and Administration, Jan Perner Transport Faculty, Faculty Arts and Philosophy, Faculty Restoration, Faculty Health Studies, Faculty Electrical Engineering and Informatics and one institute Centre for Material Science. 1

Petr Gabriel The University fers a total sixty study programs with more than one hundred and thirty study specializations. All are designed in accordance with the Bologna Declaration and modern trends in higher education. Most 3-year Bachelor s study courses fer 2-year follow-up Master s programs, and most successful graduates can continue their studies in several Doctoral degree programs at six faculties. Some study programs are also fered as part-time studies. Apart from teaching, the University Pardubice is also renowned for its numerous scientific and research activities which contribute to an excellent national and international reputation. The numerous specialized departments and other organizations, institutions and associations which have been operating at the university contribute to this fact. The Miroslav Jureček Foundation and the Jan Perner Foundation play an important role and support educational and research activities the University. Individual University departments participate in international programs, take part in student and staff exchange programs, and share experience in many projects, organize prestigious international sessions, workshops, conferences and seminars. There is much more to university life than studying. Student Council activities and the students themselves cover different areas student life: culture, sports and club activities. The modern facilities the University campus, near the centre a city with a population one hundred thousand, create ideal conditions for the all-around development young people. Pleasant surroundings and many sports and cultural life opportunities, in combination with quality and demanding study programs, are comparable to those leading European universities at the dawn the third millennium. Faculty Economics and Administration In 1991, the Faculty Public Administration was established, later renamed the Faculty Economics and Administration. It reflected the need pressionally trained specialists for local state and municipal authorities, and also managers private companies operating in business, industry and services. The students are trained in economics, finance, management and marketing, focusing especially on public administration and economy. They are introduced to informatics, information systems, information technologies and statistics, with strong attention paid to foreign languages, regional administration and the European Union issues. The Faculty Economics and Administration combines education, practical training and research activities. This system education provides the students with the latest research findings within their specialization. The academic staff integrates the latest research results into lectures with the aim to prepare the students for their pressional careers. Institutes The Faculty Economics and Administration is divided into the following institutes: Institute Economic Sciences Institute Business Economics and Management Institute Administrative and Social Sciences Institute Systém Engineering and Informatics Institute Mathematics and Quantitative Methods Institute Regional and Security Sciences The other institutes also arrange for the lecturing selected subjects at other departments. The tuition foreign languages is provided by the Language Centre. 7

Institute Economic Sciences At the Faculty Economics and Administration, it is the Institute Economics that provides the tuition general economic subjects under the study programs entitled Economic Policy and Administration, Economics and Management, and System Engineering and Informatics. The Bachelor courses these programs specifically include the following subjects: Microeconomics I, Macroeconomics I, Public Economics, Introduction to Finance, Public Finance, Economic Policy, Economics Public Sector and Municipal Finance. In the Master s study program the Institute concentrates predominately on the teaching compulsory subjects such as: Microeconomics II, Macroeconomics II, Economics Public Sector II, Banking, Financial and Actuarial Mathematics, Fiscal Theory and Policy, Economic Policy EU, Development Economic Theories, Space Economics, Mathematic Economics, International Finance, Public Economics II, Theory Financing Projects. As far as the scientific and research programs are concerned, the Institute Economic Sciences participates in the solution the Faculty research plan, in the internal grants the University Pardubice, and in nationwide projects dealing with the financing and financial cash flows communities and regions. Institute Business Economics and Management The Institute Economy and Management provides tuition economic and managerial subjects under all study programs at the Faculty Economics and Administration in Bachelor s as well as follow-up Master s and Doctoral study. At the same time the Institute guarantees the study program Economics and Management specialization Enterprise Management (including two specializations) and created newly accredited specializations Economics and Operation in Enterprises and Security Management in Enterprises. The Institute Economy and Management contributes to scientific and research programs by solving the Faculty research plan. It also participates in the internal grants the University Pardubice and in nationwide projects focusing on the optimization the number staff within institutions, upon the measurement corporate performance, upon the competitiveness companies, upon the application managerial ethics, upon corruption and how to combat it, and upon the application exact methods management, etc. The respective results are published in monographs, scientific literature and at conferences in the Czech Republic, as well as abroad. The Institute s lecturers cooperate with industrial companies, the Ministry Internal Affairs the Czech Republic, the Czech Police System, the Economic Chamber, regional authorities, and bodies and municipal fices. Many them work as lecturers at various institutions. Some lecturers are also engaged as supervisors PhD students at the Faculty Economics and Administration or at the Faculty Business VUT in Brno. Institute Administrative and Social Sciences The Institute Public Administration and Law guarantees a comprehensive teaching program, study structure, and scientific and research activities in the field public administration and legal issues with regard to the academic prile the graduates in the current study program Economic Policy and Administration and Economics and Management. The Institute also arranges lectures under the System Engineering and Informatics program. Within the scientific and research programs, the Institute Administrative and Social Sciences participates in the solution the Faculty research plan, in the internal grants the University Pardubice and in nationwide projects. Institute System Engineering and Informatics The Institute provides tuition under the study programs Economic Policy and Administration, Economics and Management and System Engineering and Informatics taught at the Faculty Economics and Administration. The core the programs informatics studies consists subjects such as Introduction to Information Technologies and subjects dealing with database systems and geographic information systems. Attention is also paid to subjects from the field information systems and data security and protection. At the end the study course the students are acquainted with modeling socio-economic processes. The subjects presented under the System Engineering and Informatics program are enlarged within the areas algorithms and programming, information and computer networks, information systems, and artificial computational intelligence. The end the study program focuses on the application artificial intelligence methods, decision making support systems, data mining, project management, simulation, and system engineering. Most subjects taught under this program are oriented towards application in the public administration sector. As regards to the scientific and research programs, the Institute specializes mainly in the application geographic information systems, decision making support systems, data flow analysis, project management, and the use information and computer networks in the public administration environment. Institute Mathematics and Quantitative Methods This Institute provides the tuition mathematics and subjects based on Statistic and Operational Research methods. In addition to the traditional mathematic fields such as mathematic analysis, algebra, probability, statistics, numerical methods, and discrete mathematics, it also arranges for lessons in applied mathematics, econometrics, and methods operational research given within the framework follow-up Master and PhD courses study. Further, the institute guarantees the Master study specialization Insurance Engineering. Institute Regional and Security Sciences The institute Regional and Security Sciences was established at the Faculty Economics and Administration on 1st January 2012. It represents an instituional roing a segment activities undertaken by the faculty involved with scientific research, educational and other pressional activities. The institute is focused on regional economics disciplines in a broader interdisciplinary context and emphasizes two directions: urbanism linked to the regional development issues traditionally and security ( residents, businesses, state) as a directions which connection with regional development has been rising and requires more attention in practise. The institute participates in implementation all three study programmes conducted at the Faculty Economics and Administration, ie, HPS, SII and EM, both in bachelor and master study. In the case the Regional and Public Economics programme (HPS) the institute also participates in doctoral study where associates the institute operate as PhD supervisors. Study Plans Standard study plans are represented in compliance with a granted accreditation, a course subjects complying with the sequences in which these subjects are supposed to be taken. On its basis, students create their own study plans. system conformed to the Bologna declaration is being applied to the whole University Pardubice within Bachelor s and Master s study programs, rarely within some Doctoral study programs. Standard study requirement is 60 credit points per one academic year, generally 30 credit points per one semester. It is the total the credit points granted within the compulsory courses, compulsory options, and optional courses. credits represent the numerical value assigned to every subject and reflect the study burden laid on a student. It represents an average time demand all activities leading to a successful completion the subject. Further information is given in the Study and ination Regulations the University Pardubice.
