Section 1 General terms and information (1) Pursuant to Act 111/1998 Coll. (Higher-Education Act), the BUT and FBM Statutes, according to Article 7 of FBM Statutes, admissions to FBM degree programmes: (a) are announced in public as required by Section 49, Paragraphs 5 and 6 of the Higher-Education Act; (b) are carried out at an applicant s request. (2) Information on admissions, degree programmes and their study fields is available to the applicants at and For more information, applicants can attend two Open Days, to be held on 14 th January 2016 and 5 th February 2016 at the FBM campus at Kolejní 2906/4. Section 2 Degree programmes offered (1) In the Academic Year 2016/2017, FBM will offer: Bachelor s degree programmes (a) Economics and Management, with the study fields, Economics and Procedural Management for full-time study, Business Economics for full-time study, Accounting and Taxes for full-time study, Business Economics for combined study (only for 3rd-year students, for graduates from the Business Economics Lifelong-Learning degree programme), 1

2 (b) System Engineering and Informatics, with the study field, Managerial Informatics for full-time study, Follow-up Master s degree programmes (c) Economics and Management with the study fields, Corporate Finance and Business for full-time and combined study, Company Management and Economics for full-time and combined study, Accounting and Financial Management for full-time study. (d) Economics and Management, with the study field, European Business and Finance for full-time study taught in English. Follow-up Master s degree programme, (e) System Engineering and Informatics with the study field, Information Management for full-time study. (2) The standard length of study is three years for Bachelor s and two years for follow-up Master s degree programmes. Section 3 Dates of entry exams (1) The entry exams for Bachelor s degree programmes will be held on 21 st and 22 nd May The entry exams for Master s degree programmes will be held on 25 th and 26 th June (2) The Dean of FBM may announce additional dates of entry exams, published on the FBM official notice board. Section 4 Preliminary numbers of students admitted (1) A total of 600 students for full-time, and 50 students for combined Bachelor s degree programmes. (2) A total of 460 students for full-time, and 100 students for combined follow-up Master s degree programmes. (3) The Dean will decide about the actual number of students to be admitted. Section 5 Admission eligibility criteria (1) The following are the eligibility criteria of admission to Bachelor s degree programmes: (a) successful completion of secondary-school studies evidenced by a secondaryschool-leaving certificate, 2

3 (b) passing the entry exam (Section 7) and achieving a sufficiently high position (given the number of applicants that FBM can admit) in the ranking of applicants based on the entry exam score, or meeting the entry-exam-waiver eligibility criteria listed by Section 11. (2) The following are the eligibility criteria of admission to Master s degree programmes: (a) graduation from a Bachelor s degree programme oriented towards economics or economics-related study-field. As economics-related are regarded study-fields with curricula including a sufficient number of subjects forming the theoretical basis of the Bachelor s degree programme, particularly mathematics, statistics, informatics, microeconomics, macroeconomics, and finance. In questionable cases, the applicant should discuss the fulfilment of this criterion at the Study Department prior to submitting a study application (the administration fee will not be returned if the application is rejected). The admissions will be suspended if the applicant fails to meet the criterion. The graduation should be evidenced by a Bachelor s degree diploma along with a state exam certificate or a diploma supplement. (b) for degree programmes taught in Czech, passing the entry exam (Section 7) and achieving a sufficiently high position (given the number of applicants that FBM can admit) in the ranking of applicants based on the entry exam score, or meeting the entry-exam-waiver eligibility criteria listed by Section 11, (c) for degree programmes taught in English, the recognition of the documents required by Section 9, passing the entry exam and achieving of a sufficiently high position (given the number of applicants that FBM can admit) in the ranking of applicants based on the entry-exam score. (3) An applicant meeting criterion (b) of paragraph (1) or criterion (b) or (c) of paragraph (2) will be notified of meeting the necessary admission eligibility criteria and informed on the enrolment dates. After the meeting of criterion (a) of paragraph (1) or (2) has been verified, the applicant will receive a certificate of admission. An admitted applicant will submit the required documents on enrolment. (4) International applicants (with the exception of Slovak applicants) may be admitted to degree programmes taught in Czech if: (a) they have been issued a Czech certificate recognizing the equivalence of a foreign certificate (as a document equivalent to school-leaving exam certificate) for Bachelor s degree programmes or a Czech certificate recognizing university study abroad (as a document equivalent to Bachelor s degree certificate) for Master s degree programmes; the applicant will submit such certificates on enrolment, (b) they have met admission eligibility criteria identical to those of the Czech applicants. (c) they have passed a Czech exam at an accredited institution; the applicant will submit a Czech exam certificate on enrolment. 3

4 Section 6 The form and content of entry exams (1) The entry exam for all degree programmes (entry exam in the sequel) takes the form of a written test, with the exception of applicants eligible for an entry-exam waiver pursuant to Section 11 and applicants for Economics and Management Master s degree programme, European Business and Finance study field (Section 9). The entry exam will consist of two parts Academic Prerequisites Test and English Test. Both tests are designed as multiple-choice ones with one correct answer to each question. The Academic Prerequisites Test lasts 45 minutes and consists of 25 questions with five alternative answers to each question for Bachelor s degree programmes and four alternative answers for Master s degree programmes. Four points are awarded for each correct choice, no point for the none-choice, and a negative point for the wrong choice. The maximum number of points scored is 100. The language test lasts 20 minutes consisting of 25 questions with four alternative answers to each question. One point is awarded for each correct answer, no point is awarded for the non-choice or the wrong choice. The maximum number of points scored is 25. The maximum total number of points from both tests is 125. (2) The Academic Prerequisites Test for Bachelor s degree programmes should check on an applicant s ability to solve tasks of a mathematical and logical nature, knowledge of the basics of informatics, and knowledge associated with the focus on the relevant degree programme or study field particularly economics, geography, business, finance, geopolitical issues, and a general overview. (3) The Academic Prerequisites Test for Master s degree programmes should check on an applicant s knowledge gained from the preceding Bachelor s study in a study field related to the degree programme in question the basics of engineering mathematics, informatics, microeconomics, macroeconomics, finance, marketing, management, accountancy, taxation and the legal issues, and knowledge of geopolitics, business, and finance. (4) The English Test should check on an applicant s knowledge of the standard grammar, vocabulary, and phraseology needed to comprehend written and spoken English and for general communication. Knowledge of the basic business English terms is also required for Master s degree programmes. (5) At the request of an applicant, for serious health reasons, the Dean may set special conditions and criteria for his or her entry exam (this does not apply to the date of the entry exam). Section 7 Entry exam grading (1) An applicant has passed the entry exam if the applicant has scored: (a) a minimum of 30 points in the Academic Prerequisites Test and (b) a minimum of 8 points in the English Test. 4

5 In all other cases, the applicant has failed the exam. (2) Exceptionally, the Dean may grant an applicant a waiver from meeting one of the above criteria. In such a case, the Dean may set the minimum scores for particular study fields. Section 8 Admissions to degree programmes taught in Czech (1) First, an application must submit an application for study meeting the required formalities listed by Section 12. (2) In April 2016, each applicant (provided that he or she has not been granted an entryexam waiver pursuant to Section 11) will receive a letter confirming the receipt of the study application; informing on the eligibility criteria of admission, for applicants for Master s degree programmes, on the entry-exam-waiver eligibility criteria; inviting the applicant to an entry exam on a particular date, listing additional exam dates, and informing on the organisation of the entry exam. (3) To his or her address, an applicant will be sent an invitation to a preparatory entry-exam course (if organised for the particular study field). (4) If, for serious emergency reasons, an applicant cannot take the entry exam on the announced date, he or she may ask the Dean for a substitute exam date. The time schedule and technical conditions permitting, the Dean may grant such a request. (5) An applicant for Bachelor s degree programmes granted an entry-exam waiver pursuant to Section 11 will be notified of this by 30 th April (6) The Dean may set special rules for admissions of applicants from abroad in compliance with the current bilateral agreements between BUT and universities abroad. Section 9 Admissions to degree programmes taught in English (1) First, an applicant must submit an application for study meeting the required formalities listed by Section 12. (2) The Dean will decide about the applicant s admission eligibility following a proposal by an admissions committee (Section 16). The admissions committee s proposal is based on the assessment of the below documents submitted by the applicant and written in English: (a) applicant s CV, (b) applicant s letter of motivation, (c) authenticated documents testifying to the applicant s current or completed previous higher-education along with a transcript of records and documents 5

6 testifying to the applicant s other professional activities at the applicant s discretion; (d) applicant s highest-level English certificate. The applicant must submit all the above documents by 31 st May 2016; otherwise, the admissions process will be terminated. (3) Based on the above documents, an applicant may be given a maximum of 30 points for the letter of motivation under 2 b, 70 points for the documents under 2 c, and 25 points for the English certificate under 2 d. The maximum total number an applicant may receive for these documents is 125. Based on the total number of points, an applicant will pass if given at least 10 points for the letter of motivation under 2 b, at least 20 points for the documents under 2 c, and at least 8 points for the English certificate under 2 d. Otherwise, the applicant will fail the exam. Methodical instructions for the assessment under Section 9, Paragraph 2, items b), c), and d) of this directive will be given in Section 16, Paragraph 2 of this directive. (4) Admission eligibility is subject to a Bachelor s degree programme being regularly completed according to Section 5, Paragraph 2, item a). Section 10 Criteria of applicant ranking for admission eligibility (1) With the exception of applicants to whom Section 11 applies, the only admission criterion is the total number of points scored in the entry exam for degree programmes taught in the Czech language (Section 6) or the result of the assessment of the required documents for degree programmes taught in the English (Section 9). The applicants will be ranked based on the below criteria: (a) applicants eligible on the basis of entry-exam waivers granted by the Dean rank in top positions, (b) other applicants rank in descending order based on the total entry-exam score, (c) for each study field and study type, a separate ranking exists. Section 11 Entry exam waiver admission (1) The Dean will grant an entry exam waiver applying to all Bachelor s degree programmes to an applicant who has passed the Czech General Academic Prerequisites (GAP) test or its Slovak equivalent as part of the National Comparative Exams project organised by Scio.cz s.r.o. and achieved a total percentile equal to or higher than 75 in a National Comparative Examination held on 12 th December 2015, 6 th February 2016, and 12 th March The test dates, sample tests, and application criteria can be found at An applicant who has regularly applied for a GAP test will receive an invitation from Scio.cz about 10 days before the test is to be held. The applicant will not submit his or her test results to FBM, as it is Scio.cz s.r.o. that has the exclusive right to pass these test results to FBM. Considered will be the best result achieved in the GAP test on any of the above dates. The results achieved on other dates 6

7 will not be accepted. Each applicant must grant Scio.cz s.r.o. his or her consent (in the GAP test application) to pass his or her results to FBM. (2) The Dean will grant an entry-exam waiver for the System Engineering and Informatics fulltime Bachelor s degree programmes, Managerial Informatics study field, to an applicant meeting the following criteria: (a) his or her Czech or Slovak secondary-school curricula included mathematics and he or she received one of the two best grades in mathematics in the mid-year report of the last year and in the end-of-year reports of the three previous years, and (b) his o her Czech or Slovak secondary-school curricula included at least one informatics-oriented subject and he or she received one of the two best grades in one of these subjects of the applicant s choice in the end-of-year-year report of the last year, and (c) his or her Czech or Slovak secondary-school curricula included English and he or she received one of the two best grades in English in the mid-year report of the last year and in the end-of-year reports of the three previous years. An applicant must submit the secondary-school transcripts of records of the above subjects to the Study Department by 31 st March 2016 or by registered post with the latest date of dispatch being 31 st March 2016 using a form available at the FBM website. An applicant failing to do so cannot be granted an entry-exam waiver. An applicant meeting all the above criteria will be notified in writing of having met the admission eligibility criteria. (3) The Dean will grant an entry-exam waiver for the fulltime follow-up Master s degree programmes taught in Czech to an applicant who has graduated from a Bachelor s degree programme obtaining a degree at FBM in the academic year in which the entry exam takes place. The decisive criterion for this is the average grade in all the curricula subjects for the years 1 to 3. The Dean will set the upper limit of the average grade for an applicant to be eligible for being granted an entry-exam waiver by 31 st May A document evidencing the average grade will be provided by the FBM Study Department. (4) The Dean will grant an entry-exam waiver to an applicant who has graduated from a Lifelong-Learning degree programme within the accredited degree programmes offered by FBM, who has met the below criteria: he or she was admitted to a Lifelong-Learning degree programme by passing an entry exam, he or she received the full number of credits required for the lifelong-learning degree programme by 31 st August Section 12 Study applications (1) An applicant for a Bachelor s degree programme will submit a separate study application meeting all the formalities (including administration fee payments) for each study field of the degree programme selected. An applicant applying for more than one study field of the Economics and Management Bachelor s degree programme will take 7

8 only one entry exam for all the study fields selected. An applicant applying for some of the study fields of the Economics and Management Bachelor s degree programme and, simultaneously, for a study field of the System Engineering and Informatics Bachelor s degree programme will take two different entry exams (held at different times). (2) An applicant for a Master s degree programme will submit a separate study application for each study field and study type (combined or full-time) of the degree programme selected. An applicant applying for study fields of the Economics and Management Master s degree programme will take only one entry exam. An applicant applying for one of the study fields of the Economics and Management Master s degree programme and, simultaneously, for a study field of the System Engineering and Informatics degree programme will take two different entry exams (held at different times). (3) Applications for all degree programmes must be submitted by 31 st March 2016: (a) In electronic form (except for the combined Business Economics Bachelor s study field, for which an application may only be submitted in the paper form according to item (b) see below) an electronic application form is available at or Applications will only be registered following the payment of an administration fee of 400 CZK or, for electronic applications from abroad, 16. The method of payment of an administration fee is given by instructions to electronic applications. If an applicant fails to pay this fee, the admissions will be terminated for him or her. (b) In paper form (SEVT form) submitted in person or by post addressed to: Fakulta podnikatelská VUT v Brně Studijní oddělení Kolejní 2906/ Brno An application submitted in paper form must be accompanied by the original postal receipt of the postal order confirming the payment of an administration fee of 550 CZK into the FBM account: Bank: ČSOB Bank code: 0300 Account number: Constant symbol: 0379 (other services) Variable symbol: 1711 If the applicant fails to pay an administration fee by the set deadline and submit a proof of the payment, the admissions will be terminated for him or her. (4) The Dean may extend the study application submission deadline. (5) An administration fee is non-returnable according to Article 13, Paragraph (3) of the BUT Statutes. (6) If an application has formal shortcomings, FBM will ask the applicant to correct or supplement the required data. If the applicant fails to do so by the set deadline, the admissions will be terminated for him or her. 8

9 Section 13 Results of admissions to degree programmes taught in Czech (1) Applicants will be notified of the score achieved in the entry exam on the date of the entry exam (following a grading of the test according carried out according to the time schedule for the exam). (2) The scores achieved in entry exams will be published at and immediately after being processed. The results will also be published on the official FBM notice board. (3) The overall ranking based on the scores will be published on the official FBM notice board by 15 th July (4) An applicant may inspect all the materials affecting his or her admission eligibility on the date of the entry exam, when he or she will also learn the score achieved. He or she may also inspect these materials at the FBM Study Department on the following dates: a) 25 th May 2016 applicants for Bachelor s degree programmes; b) 29 th July 2016 applicants for Master s degree programmes. Section 14 Publishing of the results of admissions to degree programmes taught in English (1) The decision on an applicant s admission eligibility will be announced by 15 th July (2) The results of the admissions will be published at and and on the official FBM notice board. Section 15 Reviews of contested decisions (1) An applicant who has been notified of his or her admission non-eligibility may submit a written request to the Dean of FBM for the decision to be reviewed within 30 days of receiving the notification. The Dean himself may grant such a request and change the decision in question. If he does not do so, he will forward the request to the BUT Rector for a final decision. 9

10 Section 16 Organisation of admissions (1) The Chair of the Admissions Committee appointed by the Dean by 31 st December 2015, will be responsible for organising the admissions. By 15 th April 2016, the Dean will appoint an Admissions Committee and Chairs of Examination Committees to ensure the organisation of admissions and the processing of their results under this directive. (2) The Chair of the Admissions Committee is obliged to draw up draft instructions for the entry exams to be approved by the Dean stipulating the competences and obligations and being binding on the Examination Committees. These instructions will nominate members of the Examination Committees. Examination Committees will consist of two members including a chair. These instructions must be issued by 15 th April The head of the Study Department will be responsible for the proper performance of the specific tasks to carry out the admissions. The head of the Information Systems Section will be responsible for the data processing of the entry-exam results, technical support, and entry of the data into the university information system. Section 17 Final provisions (1) The Dean will recognise all the credits gained by the lifelong-learning graduates admitted to study at FBM in the lifelong-learning accredited degree programmes offered by FBM up to 60 % of the credits needed for a regular completion of their study. These credits will be recognised on submission of documents evidencing the completion of lifelong-learning, that is, the graduate s certificate and grade record. (2) The admission of applicants under Section 1, Paragraph (1), item (b) of this directive applies to: international students, under Section 49, Paragraph 2, of the Higher-Education Act; applicants who have already been studying a related degree programme at another faculty and intend to study at FBM. Such applicants must submit applications in paper form (Section 12, Paragraph (3), item (b)) by 15 th August 2016 to the FBM Study Department. Such applications must be accompanied by: (a) an official document testifying to the fulfilment of the condition necessary for advancement to the next year of study; (b) an official document listing all subjects completed with their grading; (c) proof of the administration fee payment (Section 12, Paragraph (3), item (b)). (3) A condition necessary for FBM admission eligibility is the fulfilment of the conditions for advancement to the next year of studies at the faculty at which the applicant is currently a student. Applications are considered on an individual basis with a view to the study results to date and the number of students that can be admitted to study at FBM. 10

11 The Dean will make the decisions on admission eligibility 15 th September For each applicant, the decision will include the designation of the degree programme, study field and study year in which the applicant is to be enrolled after admission with the recognition of a part of his or her studies already completed if any.
