21 How is a Springer ebook download counted? If downloaded in PDF or HTML format, then counted Front and backmatter is not counted OR (new SpringerLink in beta) User previews an ebook. Once a user sees 1/3 of a page not freely available for at least one second, then a download of that chapter is counted. Freely available pages, not counted When a researcher goes beyond what is freely available, a full-text download is counted.
22 SpringerLink does not over-count! Scrolling quickly through thumbnails or content viewing area will NOT be counted Each chapter can be counted only once, so the maximum number of downloads possible for an ebook title in a single session is equal to the number of chapters in that ebook. So if a user slowly reads a few chapters on onscreen, then downloads the PDF version, the chapters are only counted once. User reads this chapter, a full-text download is counted. User then decides to click Download PDF button No Additional Download Is Counted.

24 Digital Preservation Springer arrangements with five vendors: Portico, CLOCKSS, LOCKSS, GNL, KB Content is being continually added to vendors Reasoning for digital preservation: a. Ensure continued user access in case of trigger event : Publisher no longer exists Specific content no longer hosted online Natural catastrophe hinders access b. Preserved content is migrated to up to date formats.
