4 1 Introduction 1.1 Purpose of this document The results of the T2 Migration Tests are summarised in this document 1.2 Sections in this document Summary T2 Migration Test The summary contains the migration results of the T2 Migration Test in perspective of digital preservation and general remarks. Preliminary conclusion and follow-up Preliminary conclusion and next concrete steps. Version 1.0 Pag: 4
5 2 Summary T2 Migration Test Results Migration guideline Performance PDF Version Converter The conversion tool performed the conversions within a reasonable time span. No requirements were defined for the performance of the conversion tool in advance, however. The conversions were too fast to measure manually. Accuracy PDF Version Converter Tagging in a source file was removed by the conversion An error in the PDF structure causes the conversion tool to generate an error message and a faulty conversion. A PDF containing a slide show causes the conversion tool to generate an error message. The file could not be converted. Permission settings in a source PDF were changed by the conversion Version 1.0 Pag: 5
6 Preliminary conclusion and follow-up Preliminary conclusion The tested version converter tool does not meet the Migration guideline. During the tests more requirements for conversion tools have become apparent. Follow-up Requirements For the next research period the requirements for conversion tools will be extended. The requirements are: Accuracy (technical and functional properties of source file and target file), including for example the actual printing accuracy of the original and converted file Tool configuration possibilities Performance Batch migration and automatic migration possibilities Logging of conversion process Error messages Batch migration and automatic migration tools Due to an internal KB decision, next tests will research (proprietary) batch migration tools that can be used in the operational workflow of the e-depot. Jhove errors Certain errors or combinations of errors (generated by extraction tool Jhove) can thwart a migration. An overview of Jhove error (combinations) and consequences for viewing (rendering in a reader) and migrating will be assembled from the test results. Version 1.0 Pag: 6
