What is Citrix and why do I need it Citrix is application virtualization and allows remote access to applications regardless of location. Citrix technologies and compressions greatly improve application response and performance. The application appears to be running on your device but is actually running on the Citrix Server. Additionally, as no data is transferred to your device, the solution is much more secure than other application delivery methods. Desktop Systems Windows Clients If no client exists, you should be provided an option to install the client upon connection to https://citrix.medstar.net Add citrix.medstar.net to trusted sites in Internet Options Recommended Browser is Internet Explorer 8 or 9 Firefox Browser does work Google Chrome does work however, since Client Auto-Detection does not work, you must modify the settings after you logon to use the Native Client. Once you have signed in, click the Settings button and select Native Client even though it says Not available. Due to this, we recommend Internet Explorer or Firefox. Macintosh OSx devices If no client exists, you should be provided an option to download and install the Citrix receiver from www.citrix.com. If this is not automatically presented to you it is recommended to open a connection to http://www.citrix.com/downloads to download and install Citrix Receiver Firefox works better than Safari if connecting to https://citrix.medstar.net using Safari causes issues or does not launch your applications via Citrix (after installing the client), we recommend trying Firefox as the browser. We have seen instances where Firefox will allow the application to launch successfully when Safari will not. Mobile Devices As with any device, network speeds greatly affect the performance of every application. To help ensure an optimal user experience, we recommend that your device is connected to the Internet using a Wi-FI connection. While 3G and 4G speeds are normally fast enough for a good experience, they can also be very inconsistent resulting in some application pauses, disconnects and other errors. Please keep in mind that most applications are NOT designed for touch input. Use the Zoom feature when necessary to help ensure you are pressing on the correct menu option or button when using applications via mobile devices.
