International Conference INTERREG project E-Mobility Policy, Practice and Profitability October 10th 2013 Haarlem, the Netherlands

2 International Conference INTERREG project E-Mobility - Policy, Practice and Profitability 10 October 2013 - Haarlem the Netherlands Provincie Noord-Holland 3 On 10 October 2013 the Dutch city of Haarlem had the honour of being the international centre of electric transport. Over 90 experts and stakeholders from eight different countries took part in the INTERREG E-Mobility NSR Conference. I look back on a successful conference. In addition to the inspiring speakers, I particularly recall the conference s interactive part. Responding to each other immediately was a fine and instructive exercise. I received many compliments from the American and European delegations. They considered the event to be groundbreaking. The wake up call, for example, will be talked about for a long time to come. This book is intended for everyone who took part in the conference as well as for those who were unable to attend. It is a means by which we can pass on the substance of the conference. For me, electric transport was the dominant theme of the entire week. In addition to attending the conference, I was at the Province s stand at the Ecomobiel trade show for sustainable mobility and, in the pouring rain, gave the starting signal for SolaRoad, the solar road that generates electrical energy. The events and technology referred to above are all conducive to electric transport in the Province of Noord- Holland. Hopefully they will shine across the rest of the Netherlands and beyond. Enjoy the read! Elisabeth Post, Vice Governor

34 International Conference INTERREG project E-Mobility - Policy, Practice and Profitability 10 October 2013 - Haarlem the Netherlands Provincie Noord-Holland 35 Next Interreg Conference: ELECTRIC VEHICLES AND ECO CARS: Solutions for Green Growth SESSION 1: Showcase UK Contributions to Electric Mobility SESSION 2: Expert Workshops Throughout Europe, city-regions are championing the development and use of electric vehicles (EVs) and other Ultra Low Emission Vehicles (ULEVs). London is a notable example. In tandem with the decarbonisation of power generation, anticipated benefits include significant reductions in C02 emissions to mitigate climate change, energy security, and improved air quality. Further, electrification of road transport can stimulate much needed economic growth. As yet, however, such initiatives tend to lack synchronization and coordination. There seems to be considerable scope for further development and green growth in this emerging industry across Europe and other world regions. Running from October 2011 to September 2014, the E-Mobility NSR network is helping to facilitate a more joined-up approach to electrification of road transport mobility that will improve accessibility and sustainable growth in the North Sea Region. The interdisciplinary project involves universities, national and local authorities and economic development agencies from seven countries (Belgium, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom) with the shared aim of developing common strategies and solutions. To follow the progress of E-mobility NSR please sign up for the project e-news at: www.e-mobility-nsr.eu. The London conference reviews progress towards mainstream market acceptance of electric mobility. In particular, it foregrounds the bigger picture : the prospects for electrifying road transport across Europe and other world regions, and opportunities to develop complementary green technologies and business solutions for cleaner, quieter, healthier cities. Expert panels consider what needs to be improved, what works well, and what might be transferrable. This conference is organised by E-mobility NSR in collaboration with the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT).
