1 Urban energy transition is in development, with a key role for local renewables and electric vehicles (EV). Experiences demonstrate required changes. In order to be prepared for this transition, decisions today determine where we are tomorrow. This conference presents and discusses key elements such as EV, local renewable energy, the electricity grid and intelligence steered by ICT, which enforce each other in the energy transition. On top of that is the energy policy, influencing the markets, products and services. Practical experiences show the possibilities of the actual state of technology. The challenge is to pave the way and dare to forecast. What does the road towards the sustainable city ecosystem look like, what are the most urgent steps to make and what are the no-regret measures? 1

3 Tuesday 31 st of March Today s program will consist of multiple parallel sessions where the role of key aspects regarding vehicle2grid will be intensely discussed. Latest experiences are shared, challenges and solutions presented. During these sessions all participants are challenged to propose developments that are required for further successful integration of vehicle2grid. These will be used to formulate a roadmap that will be presented at the closing of the conference. Registration and coffee Welcome & introduction to day 2 by Robert van den Hoed (UASA) 9:00-9:15 9:15-9:30 The grid for sun and mobility in 2025 Moderator: Peter Bach Andersen, Denmark Technical University (DK) Smart applications, matching local energy offer & demand at household, neighborhood and city level, are key for grid resilience. Implementing more intelligence into the grid instead of hardware. Robin Berg, LomboXnet (NL) Combining local solar production with smart charging and V2G has a big future for city development and network optimization. Thijs Turèl, Liander (NL) Liander investigates multiple solutions to mitigate the impact of EV- charging. We share some of our findings and current projects. Paul Codani, HQ PSA Peugeot Citroen (FR) Paul Codani has in particular analyzed the rules for frequency regulation in several countries in order to assess the possibility for an EV fleet to participate in this service. Susanne Bach, Essent (NL) Project EnergieKoplopers, a showcase of USEF (United Smart Energy Framework), shows how automatic steering of flexibility in households can help with the future challenges of sustainable energy (for example the solar energy overload). EV or sustainable info- mobility? Moderator: Carlo Mol, VITO (BE) Vision and envisaged activities of EV manufacturers overview of state of the art in Potential of EV for energy services. Current activities and challenges and opportunities until Francisco Carranza, Nissan Europe (FR) Nissan believes that the ramp up of EV can play an active role in the integration of renewables. When intelligently managed fleets of EV can act as storage facility or virtual power plants. Bart Sloep, Mitsubishi Corp. Automobile Europe (NL) summary to be delivered Mitsubishi is involved in a 3- year project that aims to remove different technical, social and economical barriers for the implementation of V2G. Stijn Vandael, University Leuven (BE) The V2G project in Delaware includes 15 BMW Mini- E cars acting as a mini power plant is presented. The EVs provide financed regulation services for PJM, a large transmission system operator. The setup of the mini power plant and EV driver s involvement is explained. 9:40-11:10 Coffee Break 11:10-11:40 3
4 Tuesday 31 st of March Agenda and ICT for energy management Moderator: Jaak Vlasveld Green IT (NL) Intelligent ICT empowered to shift energy consumption in line with energy production. Including detailed energy prosumption and forecasting. Do we allow our agenda to manage our energy provision and related mobility range of the electric vehicle? ICT facilitates your digital and real life. Jurjen Helmus, University of Applied Sciences (NL) Presentation and discussion about energy model for scenario development addressing energy, electric mobility and grid development. Arno van Zwam, Mastervolt (NL) In 10 years from now no solar panel will be sold any more without associated storage battery. Economic viability will kick in first were battery flexibility serves multiple purposes: maximizing self- consumption but also support of network operator and/or utility company. The latter will be demonstrated in Amsterdam in the City- zen project. Ghanim Putrus, Northumbria University (UK) The E- Mobility NSR team s expert developed a model where municipalities simulate grid stability by adding EVs and renewables on their grids. Operational examples, lessons learned and valuable mistakes. Moderator: Petra de Boer, DNV- GL (NL) Different initiatives exist in Europe combining local renewable energy and electric mobility to optimize the integration of renewables. Real bi- directional examples are challenged to present experiences, pitfalls and best practices. How can these experiences cross- fertilize each other and what is the up scaling potential? Peter Bach Andersen, Denmark Techical University (DK) DTU investigates the numerous power and energy services that an electric vehicle, with enabling control and monitoring technology, can offer the power system. Frank Wolter INNOZ (GER) Operational experiences with Vehicle 2 Grid in the company premises. Internal grid operation. Sahin Albayrak, Dai- Labor (GER) V2G on different levels of the grid. Including: smart home integration, micro- grids and urban distribution grids. Lessons are presented with respect to software/ict, monetary incentives and infrastructure development. Nanda Piersma, University of Applied Sciences (NL) The Amsterdam Vehicle 2 Grid project. Energy autonomy at household level and neighbourhood up- scaling potential 11:40-13:00 EU Matchmaking During this part of the conference European governments, - companies and - research institutes are given the opportunity to find partners for projects. The event will start with several short presentations from participating organizations. The organizations are invited to pitch their project ideas and the kind of partners they are looking for. After the pitches there will be room for further consultation between potential partners and funding programs. Dutch government representative will introduce EU innovation funds related to energy, transport, ICT and low carbon society. Lunch Urban E- Mobility Challenge Alliander and THNK present their urban e- mobility model fit for cities and urban regions worldwide. The city is the most prominent stakeholder, since local infrastructure is bound to applications in the public space. Urban mobility is essential, as half of the world s population lives in cities. Urbanization is accompanied by rising inequality, longer commutes, and rising energy needs. This model gives insights in the (im)possibilities in cities and regions and addresses societal interests. Cost structures, savings, and possibilities for cost sharing are addressed. The model assesses all mayor topics, including the complexity of clean e- mobility in an urban environment. Now and in the future. 13:00-14:00 14:00-15:30 4
5 Tuesday 31st of March Energy rules or rules for energy: The business case challenge Moderator: Gerard van Baar, Van Baar Consultancy (NL) Anticipating on fluctuating energy cost, improved battery performance and economies of scale enables V2G practices to make a valid business case. But what is needed to make this happen? And how likely is it that it s going to happen? And how about regulations and policies? What is a socially desirable and economically viable infrastructure? What is needed? What is the challenge for policy makers? Annelies Huygen, TNO (NL) The current regulatory system needs to be adapted in order to efficiently integrate EV. Major areas of regulation are among others: the potential tasks of distribution system operators, distribution grid tarification, regulation concerning supply prices for small consumers, including net metering, regulation on data handling and the EV infrastructure. Which models of regulation are in place and how should they be changed in order to allow an optimal integration of electric vehicles? Dirk Jan van Swaay, ING, (NL) A bankers view on V2G: what makes it attractive and what makes it difficult to finance. What are the basic ingredients a banker needs to finance? And what does this mean for policy makers? Jacco van der Burg, Cofely (NL) In the project V2X Cofely investigates how EV can create value when connected to businesses and homes. Bidirectional charging in combination with distributed, renewable energy generations can create grid independencies between 17% and 70% Final conference debate with speakers, policy makers, car manufacturers and participants 15:30-17:00 Closure: The path towards smart and clean cities in By Robert van den Hoed, Lector University of Applied Sciences.
