Full-service contracting and restoration Results. And reliability. Apex provides a broad base of construction and restoration services. Our expertise ranges from new construction to correcting construction defects; from flood-, fire- and mold-damage mitigation to repairs and remodeling for residential customers; and from working with insurance companies, lawyers, architects and developers on a case-by-case basis to providing tenant improvements for property owners and builders. We re staffed with the best technicians, equipped with the best mitigation and remediation equipment, and ready to apply our comprehensive expertise to construction and remediation projects 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Our affiliation with Disaster Kleenup International (DKI) gives us an added advantage: We re able to exchange resources and ideas with experts across the country, keeping us on the leading edge of industry trends and techniques. Call us when you have a crisis. Rely on us for continuing projects. You ll get the results you re looking for. And the assurance of a job that meets your satisfaction every time. This fireplace is an example of Apex s fine exterior craftsmanship.

Construction and contracting Experienced planning. And expert production. Careful planning is one of the hallmarks of our approach. We evaluate our projects in advance, strategize on the best approach and bring just the right combination of staff skills and experience to each job. We specialize in handling projects independently, regardless of the complexity or involvement of others. We also do everything possible to minimize our client s effort. While we maintain regular communication with our clients so that they always know about the progress of the job, we don t burden them with daily concerns or issues. We deal with every aspect of the project at hand, allowing our clients to continue with the rest of their business. Doing whatever it takes to deliver quality construction in a timely manner is our goal. It s our promise, too. So seamless is our work, it s hard to tell that this second-story deck with French doors is an addition.

The project: Complete shoring, waterproofing and drainage for the foundation of a new Super 8 Motel. The project: Add a 600-squarefoot master bedroom to an existing 800-square-foot craftsman-style home in North Park. The project: Expand the existing men s and women s restrooms at Hooters restaurant, ensuring ADA compliance. Our approach: We coordi- Our approach: Every detail Our approach: We began nated the excavation, drain installation, concrete pouring and below-grade waterproofing, which included 30,000 square feet of bentonite clay. Major components of this project included protection from water intrusion, reviewing the construction plans with the builder and value-engineering the waterproofing specifications in order to save time and help keep the project on budget. in this craftsman-style home from the siding to the window trim had to match exactly. Our crew, which included wood craftsmen, wood-floor installers, tile layers and roofers, completed each phase to our customers exacting standards. We also worked closely with the homeowners and their architect to ensure that the addition s layout and the selection of materials and details were to everyone s expectations. by creating a new floor plan that not only added more capacity within the restrooms, but also improved ingress and egress. We completed all plumbing, tiling, flooring and electrical in order to finish the expansion. We carefully planned and managed each phase of the project in order to minimize the impact on ongoing business at the restaurant and to meet a tight schedule, as well. Apex told us what to expect they got started. They kept in touch throughout the project, and then delivered with craftsmanship and quality. Flood, fire and mold mitigation Responsiveness. And resourcefulness. In disaster situations, specifically those involving flood and fire, response time is paramount. Our emergency-response teams are on call round-the-clock every day of the year. They re dispatched by our hotline, which is always answered by an Apex employee. Within the hour, our teams are ready to begin mitigation and coordination of the loss with adjusters or on-site managers. Our mitigation teams are trained in the latest remediation procedures for moldaffected areas. Since mold requires moisture to grow, one of our first tasks is to determine the source of the moisture to ensure that it is repaired prior to remediation. We quickly isolate and contain the mold area to prevent spores from migrating. Our remediation teams come well-equipped and our restoration teams soon follow to do whatever is required, including seamlessly matching drywall textures and paint and making transparent transitions between old and new. The attention to detail shown in the wood flooring and stone fireplace are representative of our finish work.

The problem: Fire damaged 6500 square feet and three floors of a downtown office building that houses San Diego Family Magazine. Our solution: Working - The problem: Seven stories of the Omni Hotel flooded during the 4th of July weekend a maintenance worker mistakenly drilled a hole in the high-pressure water-supply line. The problem: An undetected flood resulted in severe water and mold damage to three condos in a newly constructed downtown high-rise. Our solution: Speed and hours and on weekends to minimize the impact on the building s occupants and their operations, our crew removed fire- and water-damaged materials and debris, cleaned smoke and soot residue from areas that did not require demolition and acted as the liaison with the adjuster to ensure the loss received appropriate coverage. We completed the restoration in short order so that the magazine and other tenants could return to business. Our solution: Using our thermal-imaging camera, which can locate moisture unseen by the naked eye, we inspected the flooded areas on all floors, removed water-damaged materials down to the studs and carefully isolated our work space in order to lessen the impact on the fully booked hotel. We worked non-stop on the holiday weekend, completing the repairs in five days without disrupting hotel guests or operations. discretion were our bywords here. We had to get rid of the mold quickly, minimize the effects on residents of other units and handle the restoration discreetly so that potential sales of additional new units would not be affected. We accomplished all three objectives from the time we identified the extent of water damage and mold infestation until we had completed restoration and a thorough cleaning. I ve had companies tell me they would take care of the problem, but I haven t had anyone take care of it as fast and as well as Apex. Larry Bay, Owner, San Diego Family Magazine

Construction-defect repairs Expertise. And efficiency. Our proficiencies in this area include destructive testing in order to determine hidden causes of damage, as well as forensic consulting, expert witness work with causation and Cost of Repair (COR) services. We handle the project from material removal to access the deficiency through defect repair and finish with seamless restoration of the affected areas. Often construction-defect repairs involve a number of parties, such as plaintiff and defense attorneys, architects, and property and building representatives. Professional discretion and good judgment are as important in this type of work as expertise. We understand just how politically charged some of these situations can be and we are very careful in how we handle them. Our tact and diplomacy have earned us a well-regarded reputation throughout the industry. We can handle extensive defect work, such as this large institutional building, because we carefully plan and prepare for construction-defect projects.

The defect: Improper building techniques by a subcontractor caused a mold infestation that affected hundreds of new San Diego bay-front homes. Our repair: We mobilized teams to make simultaneous repairs on multiple homes. Through careful planning and organization on this labor-intensive project, we were able to exceed the developer s expectation of the time required to repair the defect. We paid special attention to minimizing the impact of our work on homeowners in the development, resulting in far fewer headaches for our client. Our performance on this large and difficult project earned us the respect and continuing business of a major San Diego developer. The defect: A large, private university in an exclusive part of Orange County had numerous large scale construction defects that caused water intrusion into classrooms, offices and meeting areas. The defect: Multiple construction defects had led to extensive water intrusion into a 5,000-square-foot, two-story residence in Newport Coast. Our repair: We removed faulty the problem locations through forensic investigation and water-testing, we removed the exterior building envelopment, including stucco, building paper, Densglass, windows and flashing and determined the cause of the intrusions. We then worked with the university s in-house architects to formulate and implement repairs. Because of the extent of water damage, we also provided mold remediation and restoration at more than a dozen locations on the university campus. deck coatings and flashings and properly re-flashed and reinstalled the deck coating and tile to five leaking decks. We removed faulty window flashings throughout the house and reinstalled flashings with proper tie-ins to the building envelopment. We also repaired the waterproofing and flashing to an exterior fireplace and staircase. Our restoration of 20-foot-high interior ceilings included resilient-channel installation and drywall. Throughout the process, we worked closely with the homeowners, attorneys and the architect to plan and implement the most cost-effective solutions to the multiple defects. Our repair: Once we identified Our client was being sued for construction-related defects. Plaintiff s cost of repair was over $300,000. By employing Apex and putting their considerable construction-defect repair expertise to work, we were able to resolve the matter for less than a third of the lawsuit. Robert C. Martinez, Attorney, Freidrickson, Mazeika & Grant

Tenant improvements and residential construction Talented. And true to our word. We are experienced in adding patios, decks, garages, covered parking and interior rooms, including bathrooms. We can also update, rearrange and expand existing spaces, such as bathrooms, kitchens and offices. Our employees will arrive at your job site on time. They will work cleanly, completing the project to your satisfaction. There s no other way we do it. The task: Take charge and handle tenant improvements for 1,000 square feet of office space. The task: Renovate the exterior and modernize a 2,000-squarefoot home built in 1959. Our job: We gutted the existing unit, including the ceiling grid; added pony walls and reception counters; installed a new ceiling grid with HVAC registers; relocated the electrical, phone and CAT-5 outlets; and finished up by installing new carpeting and painting, all to the new tenant s specifications. Our job: We removed the entire exterior of this home everything from planters and siding to soffits and fascia and repaired the damage exposed, which included extensive structural framing damage caused by dry rot. We then installed a Santa Fe stucco system, stone siding and insulation, and replaced the soffits and fascia. In order to close a significant lease transaction, I had to commit to improving the space on a very tight timeline. Apex was able to deliver the space within the short timeline and on budget. Apex s commitment to the project really enabled us to pull off this deal. Matt Traino, Manager, IDS Real Estate Group
