Name: Christie Fraser Program: PhD, Developmental Psychology and Education Research: Master s Thesis An exploration of levels of phonological awareness and predictors of word reading in Korean children learning English Doctoral Thesis Reading difficulties in ELLs: Exploring the impact of poor decoding, poor comprehension, and poor oral language on reading comprehension Christie is in the final year of her doctoral studies at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto, in the Department of Applied Psychology and Human Development under the supervision of Dr. Esther Geva. Her research interests include: the cognitive processes involved in learning to read, language and literacy skills in English language learners with and without learning difficulties, and reading intervention and remediation for struggling readers. Her teaching focus is the area of educational psychology, assessment for programming, and reading instruction for pre-service teachers, Early Childhood Educators, and certified teachers returning for additional qualifications. One of Christie s ongoing initiatives is bridging research and practice, and helping educators to develop their evidence-based practice.
