The is located on the Highway 41 corridor, one of the Yosemite Gateway Routes, and the road generally designated as the southern route into Yosemite National Park. The Inn is only four miles south of the gate into the park and 40 miles from Yosemite Valley. This route is used by 40 to 50 percent of all visitors to the park and traffi c volume swells to nearly 50,000 cars per day in August. The Highway also provides the best direct route to Badger Pass, the only ski resort in a National Park. Adjacent to the property, The Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad, is a restored steam train which originally served logging operations in the area from 1899 through 1931 and is where the Inn s name is derived. A 4 mile section of the original railbed has been reconstructed and runs daily throughout most of the year. The 3.5 acre property sits at an elevation of approximately 4,900 feet, so it is above the snowline and is wooded with mountain oaks and evergreens, numerous natural rock outcroppings and a seasonal creek that meanders across the eastern portion of the property. Local Points of Interest I. Vintage Steam Train excursions operate daily throughout the season at the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad, a short 1 minute walk from the Inn. The South Gate to one of the world s most beautiful National Parks is just 4 miles north of the Inn on HWY 41. Entrance Fee is $20.00 per car, and is valid for 7 days from purchase. Travel time to the South Gate is approximately 10 minutes. III. Trail rides and wagon rides, including an outdoor chuck wagon dinner are available at the Yosemite Trails Pack Station, just 2.5 miles from the Inn. Sleigh Rides are available during winter conditions. Travel time from the Inn is approximately 10 minutes. IV. Summerdale Campground (US Forest Service) is a lush and beautiful camp ground located on the crystal clear waters of Big Creek. There are barbeque facilities available. A day use fee is required. Located just 2.5 miles north of the Inn on HWY 41, travel time is approximately 5 minutes. V. Corlieu Falls is a spectacular display of beautiful mountain waterfalls. The trailhead is located just 4.2 miles south of the Inn on HWY 41. Look for the large turnout on the left marked by the Lewis Creek Trail sign. Travel time to the trailhead is approximately 15 minutes. VI. Live Theater. Boo the villian and cheer the hero while watching melodramas and historical theater at the Golden Chain Theater. The season is from Memorial Day until late November. Enjoy a soda or beer, and the popcorn is always free! Located approximately 15 minutes south of the Inn on HWY 41. VII. Families can experience what life was like more than 100 years ago by taking an exciting and educational tour of Fresno Flats Historical Park in Oakhurst. Many historical buildings have been preserved and tours are provided by dedicated volunteers. The park is open daily for self guided tours from dawn to dusk. Guided tours are also available. Located approximately 20 minutes from the Inn. VIII. Bass Lake provides endless recreational activities on and around it s clear, blue waters which are nestled among the pines. The lake offers fi shing, boating, water skiing and more. Nearby stores and restaurants offer dining and spirits. The lake is located approximately 12 miles from the Inn. IX. Golfi ng is available at 3 nearby courses. Green Fees are quite reasonable: 18 holes run about $35.00. There are two courses in the Sierra foothills that wind through oak and pine studded countryside. Wawona is the only golf course in the nation within the boundaries of a national park. All courses are located within a 30-40 minute drive from the Inn. X. Whitewater rafting is offered on the Merced river at the southwest entrance to Yosemite. The Merced is a class III-IV river, making for an exciting day as you challenge the rapids. The meeting place is approximately a 1 hour drive from the Inn.
