Job Description Job title: Dept/Section/Region/Reserve: Location of job: Post holder reports to: Reporting to post holder: Seabird Research Assistant Northern England Reserves Bempton Cliffs, East Riding of Yorkshire Assistant Warden N/A Overall purpose of the job In conjunction with the Assistant Warden and seabird monitoring volunteers deliver and communicate key areas of seabird monitoring and research across the Flamborough Head and Bempton Cliffs Special Protection Area (SPA), including the pspa colony between Filey Brigg and Cayton Bay. Conduct research and monitoring to understand the population size and productivity of the seabird colony. Assist with developing the understanding of the interaction between the seabird colonies and potentially damaging activities and help develop an understanding of feeding and dispersal patterns of seabirds to inform the designation and management of marine protected areas. A key part of your role will be to interpret the findings to volunteers, members of the public and local landowners and managers. Main duties With the Assistant Warden, co-ordinate, support and train the seabird monitoring volunteer team Collect data following common standards monitoring protocols to a high and consistent standard. This will often involve using specialised techniques and require the ability to record data accurately With conservation scientists and other senior staff, assist with the implementation of project protocols in specialist areas such as seabird productivity, provisioning and diet analysis Ensure continuity of data gathering as the research programmes at Bempton, Flamborough and Filey develop Assist with the organisation of logistical aspects of field projects such as the location of suitable study sites, landowner contacts and access permissions, materials, equipment, accommodation and transport Assist with the management of the day-to-day running of the field project work through detailed implementation of your daily work-plans ensuring Health & Safety and welfare guidelines are implemented at all times Ensure all data from the project are entered and checked.
